That sucks, Cindy Maybe just play the game, see him, then get a new one?

Kristin-- how was the play?

me-- yes, I've got an apt with the dentist for my jaw/ear thing in 20 minutes (they're at the end of my street! every strip mall here has either a dentist or a vet's office... so weird, but whatever). All the dentists in her practice are very good, but I think I'm seeing the head honcho today. Hmmm... Will report back. (last time they gave me a bite guard for grinding, I stopped using it (on their advice) b/c it was moving my teeth and maybe doing more harm than good...guess we'll revisit that).

Hope they can give me a muscle relaxer or something... and that this ear pain is the jaw, and not an ear infection

Thanks for the great beaming, everybody. The play experience was not bad at all.
Thanks, too, to Cindy. Because of that thread (y'all know the one - I'm tired, etc.), I've cut out carbs altogether for a bit. Felt like absolute hell for a couple of days, but today I feel steady and much saner, somehow. Thanks for the ideas that came from that wonderful thread.

Glad it was a "not bad at all" experience Kristin!

me-- back from the dentist. She says I'm having a pretty bad episode of TMJ, classic symptoms, full on acute muscle spasm I'm a clencher apparently, not a grinder, but that can still do damage to the teeth.

so-- ibuprofen (which I tried not to laugh at-- the volume I take when I get a headache/migraine is like, waaaay beyond "2 every 4 hours") and hot and cold packs, alternating. Soft food, nothing chewy, no gum, nothing I have to bite into like an apple or open wide for.
sigh.

she says I could call the Dr to verify it's not an ear thing-- if it doesn't clear up following the above, I will. But I'm confident I went to the right medical professional to start with

<fingers and jaw muscles crossed>

Ooh, gosh Soren. As a fellow TMJ sufferer, I know that can be miserable. I don't think I've ever had quite that level of spasm. I'm glad you got to the dentist. And I know what you mean about Ibuprofen. I get a new Rx for 800 mg each year at my checkup, just to have on hand for killer headaches, killer cramps, back pain, etc. They always give it w/o question.

Kristin, I'm so glad the play went well. You amaze me with your creativity!

Mary, inches lost is always a good thing! Thanks for reminding us of that again. I always lose site, and come to think of it, I forgot to measure a couple of days ago on the 1st. I'll have to try to do it in the morning.

Cindy, did you make an appointment with your regular doc? That month will fly by.

I don't have a regular doctor. I only have a OB Gyn and she won't do it. I'm having trouble picking someone, since everyone I called is booked. One doctor's office said for me to come in and fill out some paperwork and the doctor would review it and see if she wanted to have me as a patient. I told the receptionist that there were too many doctors in this town willing to take my insurance and money for me to go to that trouble lol. I guess I'll try again tomorrow.

Kristin, I'm glad everything went well with the play. Also, you're welcome if my thread helped in any way. I'm sticking to LC too, and hoping it will be what I need to start losing again.

Soren, glad you found out what it was. I hope the IB helps with the pain too! I grind my teeth, and not sure how often, or if it's every night. I once asked my dentist for a mouth guard to help with snoring (and possible teeth grinding), and he said I should just lose weight. I hate that man.

Last night DW said I was getting tiny and I was like "yeah, sure... OK."
I had not measured my waist since I got down to exercising more regularly 5-6 weeks ago and I went from 31" to 29.5".

That is really nice proof that exercise can reshape our body. I still have loads of flab, but that exercise is starting to payoff.

Carly you ARE tiny! Believe it!

Soren: Sorry about the tmj. Yuck. Hope you get it under control quickly.

Mary: 169!!! You are rockin' this!

Cindy: That is just so discouraging. Keep at it, Girl. You will find a doc.

I had my annual "Well Woman" check up this morning. Oh, and a pap smear. Yuck-OH!

My BP was 112/78. Not too bad.

I had the annual blood draw so am anxious to see how that turns out. Last year my cholesterol was borderline high but doc said nothing to worry about yet. I weigh more than I did last year at this time. But I've been JUDDDing since Dec. 20th so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that all will be well because of IF.

Yesterday was an UD and it was a big food fest for me. Yum. I didn't regret any of it but figured the scale would be up this morning per the usual bounce. Instead it was DOWN .4 which is not much. But it was down after an UD which is strange for me.

The other interesting coincidence was that the doctor's scale weighed me exactly the same as my scale. On my scale I weighed first thing in the morning and nekked. I was fully clothed at the doctor's office and it weighed exactly the same down to the point two. Weird.

Maybe my body is dropping some ugly fat. I hope. I hope. I feel like it is.

It's been a great DD so far. I didn't even have coffee this morning because I was going to have the blood drawn. So, thus far I have had zero calories.

It's almost 5 pm and my tummy is growling. I'm really not hungry for anything in particular, so think I should just glug down some more water and see how it goes for the rest of the evening.

My doctor left me a message on Sunday and said my blood work was great. The only issue was low vitamin D so she said take 5,000 units every day and get it rechecked in 3 months.

Not bad at all. I'll wait till they mail the results to see A1c and cholesterol.

Hello all!

Popping in to say hi! I feel like I live in a snowglobe with all this snow!

I had a scheduled day off today thankfully, because I probably would have to go into work. When they say Manhattan is the city that doesn't sleep - they certainly mean it.

Hope everyone's well!

1) do. A good regular gp is important, who knows your history and you can talk to.

2) wth??? That's nuts. What an ahole.

Youve reminded me to take the stuff, so I'll do that now.

Good dd here. Bit high, but best ina week.

Whats realistic to lose by mother's day?

And while im not a challenge person, maybe we could rally and do one? I need to look good at my user conference in may.

Go for it Soren! We did a few challenges last year, I really enjoyed them. They kept me accountable for a non-scale goal. I think I failed to meet goal for each one but progress was made and that's all that matters!

Mothers Day - 3.5 months away, right? So 14 weeks, 1# a week average so maybe say 10-15 pounds or 1 dress/pants size?

I was able to register for the race I wanted to do this summer in Vancouver this morning. It actually worked (as opposed to attempt #1 where their servers crashed) and sold out in under an hour. Many people were disappointed, but I guess this is where it pays to be incredibly anal and detail oriented!

Hi everyone.

Well done on the inches lost Mary and Carly. I have found them.

Cindy, so sorry you can't find aGP but it is so important to find someone you can 'like'. None of us enjoys seeing the Dr but at least if you can relate to them it helps when revealing all.

Soren, sorry about the jaw/ear issues, but it seems you have a decent dentist.

I find the Ibuprofen thing weird. Here in the UK the over the counter meds are 200mg, but in most of Europe they are 500mg. Yet the instructions are the same, 2 tablets 4 times a day. What is that all about? British stiff upper lip?

Librarygirl- just remember, in a month you will still want to know about your thyroid. Don't let the delay stop you from moving forward. And ask for specific thyroid tests, with T3 and T4, and all that jazz, not just the general number.

Agreed! Sometimes you have to do test after test after test to get the answers youre looking for!

It makes it much easier for me that my husband doesn’t eat at all on his down days, so it doesn’t matter to him if I have a low calorie day or eat normally.

Do you eat all your meals together?

Hey Soren, TMJ territory is sooooo complex because of it involving rotation and translation (two kinds of motion instead of one - same reason shoulders are such crazy joints to treat compared to fingers, say). They also have lots of overlap with eustacean tubes, upper c-spine, and headaches.
There are also lots of treatment approaches, which adds to the complexity and to the time it takes to find something right for you.
I'll just throw in something I'm sure you know - that stress is huge with tmjs. Although it was wonderful to find specific, successful treatments for individual patients (after much trial and error and many mouth guards thrown across bedrooms in the middle of the night), I became a huge fan of patients exploring meditation, relaxed breathing, self-awareness re: stress held in the tmj region, etc. These approaches had better overall success and gave people a sense of control over the whole thing if they were so inclined.
That's it. Don't mean to advise at all or to interfere. Feel free to ignore this if it doesn't serve.

Funny! When I was a teen/young adult I remember taking lots of Excedrin for headaches. Then, the dosage was 2 tablets every four hours. Now the label says every six hours. When I need it, which is pretty rare since JUDDD, I still use it every four. I think if you don't abuse OTC pain meds, and when you really need it, it's fine. I also like the trick I learned from a friend's husband who was injured. He was told by his Dr. that he could take OTC dosages of Tylenol and Ibuprofen every two hours, if he alternated them. This was very short-term, of course.

I have! I noticed several months into regular rotations that my itchy skin was much less itchy, and less inflamed. My nasal/eye allergies are MUCH better, and my facial flushing has disappeared. I've got to think that's all reduction of inflammation.

My doctor told me the same thing, though just with ibuprofen. Acetaminophen (Tylenol) can be very hard on your liver, especially if you also consume alcohol at the same time. Ibuprofen doesn't cause liver problems, except in cases of some rare diseases, but it can be hard on the kidneys, so, like you said, this should be short term. Acetaminophen does absolutely nothing for me so it isn't an issue for me.

When I do start to feel a headache coming on, I will normally take four 200mg to knock it back. If that doesn't do it, I know I am in for one of my vicious headaches and it won't matter how much ibuprofen I take.
