Snowed like crazy this morning and now it's RAINING on top of the snow but it's turning into freezing rain now and it's supposed to turn into snow in the next few hours. I didn't go into the city today. My director called us all this morning and cancelled rehearsal due to the weather. So of course I didn't want to trek to Manhattan in all this mess for an EPA. I was fine with the feedback I got on my audition yesterday! LOL! It was for the new play starring Ewan McGregor and Maggie Gyllehal. After my audition the casting director said "Very good job" and if you know anything about casting directors they don't give out compliments unless they mean them! I should went to the EPA from the confidence I had from yesterday's audition but once rehearsal was cancelled and I looked out the window I said "OH HELL AND NAW!" I've got another audition tomorrow and rehearsal...giving myself a break from being hard on myself. This is my first winter in over 16 years and I'm still getting used to it. BUT next year I'll be a full fledged New Yorker and will have to just get over it!!!

The dinner I was scheduled to attend that the friends group had organized for tonight has been cancelled. The weather has been too treacherous, and frankly I was surprised they waited until today to cancel. Supposedly it will take place next Tues or Thurs. We have also been off work now since Tues at 1:00, and will resume tomorrow at 12 noon. I have cabin fever and ready to go back at least for a few hours lol. We have power right now, but have lost it 3-4 times since yesterday, with the longest time being from 4 am till noon today. I hope we have it through the night tonight...thankfully, we have gas logs for heat if the power goes out again.

Nah. I like it here, even though the winters can get a little long.

I lived a big chunk of my life in the Salem, OR area (hence going to Oregon State). When we moved up here, I actually missed the rain for awhile. I've acclimatized, though, and like having four seasons, having the mountains all around and having way fewer people.

Have a great race Yennie! We have four seasons here as well but they seem to often occur in one day. Chinooks can create some big temperature changes.

Wishing you a good race Jen!

Not too much to report here-- light snow. I have our 2nd couples cooking course tonight, the Valentine's special dinner-- bouillabaisse soup, tenderloin in bacon with mushroom ragout and foie gras, and a chocolate ganache tarte with strawberries.
quite excited for that!

Rower won't come till next weekend ah well.

I don't know if anyone is interested but a Spokane news channel did a cool story on one of my son's classmates, who has Down's Syndrome, last night.

I couldn't get the video to embed but it is here:

Just click on Skylar's picture to play the video.

I'm not sure this would have happened when I was in high school.

I think I heard that story on the radio Frosty. That's awesome!

Any JBs who live in a warmer climate have a couch I can crash on until winter is over??? LOL SOOOOOOOOOO sick of snow. I had to trudge into work today late because it took almost 2 hours to snowblow/plow/shovel my hubby's car out of our driveway. He gave me a ride tow ork since my car is still totally buried. Happy Valentine's day to me!!! After work I get to unbury my car. I told hubby we are having pizza tonight since I'm not cooking AND shoveling today! He had to pick one

Cabin Fever and loss of power is the worst. I have family all over SC and they've been without power for about two days I believe. I hope the roads are better and you were able to get out of the house.

Happy Valentine's Day to everyone!

The BF is stuck at work, but we are doing brunch on Sunday. I'm happy that we're not hanging out tonight because I just want to sleep and I have to be at the clinic tomorrow at 8 AM. I'm excited to report that will be ending VERY soon. The lack of sleep and extra workload outside of my full-time job and part-time job as an Adjunct Professor has been really hard on me and causing my Lymes Disease to flare up so I'm thankful that my new boss is going to let me complete my internship hours on the job. I'm going to head to bed soon. Just not feeling up to par, but I did want to check in with everyone.

Had a wonderful lunch with Goner! Mom and I both enjoyed it very much. We didn't snap any pics though, darnit. We were just too busy chatting and getting to know each other. This won't be a surprise to anyone here, but she is a lovely, lovely person, inside and out.

Thank you, Goner, for the gifts and for your wonderful company today!

Lisa, I hope you get some much-needed rest. We still have power, and the worst of the weather seems to be over now. It's supposed to be in the 70s next week.

Carol, your lunch sounds wonderful! I wish you had taken pics, so we could see everyone. What a nice thing though, to meet a JB in person.

Alex and I just had our day meal, and it was delicious. He had mussels in garlic and olive oil, and terryaki chicken wings (weird combination lol), and I had gnocchi with scallops and shrimp. He also vacuumed and straightened up the house, and made me a card. Might keep him a little bit longer.

I've been eating like a lunatic today and DH just suggested Texas Roadhouse for dinner. I "can" eat lower calorie there, but I think I may just throw caution to the wind. Country Fried Steak is calling my name. Oh goodness, I'm going to need 3 DDs next week!

Never "good luck" even for auditions. It's considered bad luck. Had ANOTHER great audition today! So excited! I know I'm gonna book another show soon! Tomorrow we're are having a tech run through for "Sordid Lives" I feel like it's gonna be a hot mess but I'm staying positive. So grateful for this show, it's paying my March rent! LOL!

Well, I had the hydrostatic body fat test done on Tuesday. Apparently, they decided to bypass our town so I ended up driving south 107 miles! Results, as expected I guess:

Height 5'4" (used to be 5'5" at one time!)
Weight 155.4 (couple of pounds less than my scale)
Body fat 34%
Lean lb 102.6
Fat lb 52.8
RMR 1509

Seems like, I need to lose 15-20 lbs more if I want to be between Good & Healthy range! However,I doubt if I'll lose any weight if I ate at RMR level that they recommend. The girl said if I ate below the RMR I would be losing Lean lbs The real surprise was that I was burning 25% less calories on my walks than my food log site told me I do! The one that I map my walk with exaggerates even more - which I always ignored anyway! This definitely sheds a different light on calorie deficit. Seems more accurate to me. May be the logging sites include the RMR calories for the duration of exercise + the exercise calories! Like Mike said it's good for checking the future progress.

JBs with freezing or wet fronts We are in "Serious drought", signs all over the freeway telling us to conserve water!for rain! Weather has been quite warm, great for outdoor walking but we'd rather have the rain now, farms and farmers are hurting!

I may well comment more later (and in a different thread with CaliChris/Christina and LCG/Carol's results.

It wouldn't take much for you to shed your way below the obesity cut off (which, for the Association of American Bariatric Surgeons is >30% BF). (ETA: If this sounds a tad blunt to we have several threads on body composition assessment/body fat levels/lean body mass as several of us have had one assessment or another. JUDDDers and DODOs know that I had an assessment which reports a BF of 42% which puts me in the somewhat odd category of 'normal weight, morbidly obese' in public health terms. FWIW, my BMI is <21.)

Agreed that kcal calculations for exercise are maddening because they rarely state whether or not they count RMR as part of the expenditure that they state. The other thing is that it's almost impossible for any proxy calculator (such as the estimate from gym machines, calculators etc.) to take metabolic adaptation into account and that's a significant contributor to over-estimates of energy expenditure.

I empathise that HIIT is taxing to the point of being unpleasant but...it does have some good evidence to support its utility in whittling down visceral fat rather more than low intensity cardio (such as your lovely walks which are nonetheless valuable because of the serenity that is concomitant).

Thanks Slow, I look forward to reading your comments in the other thread! Please rest assured that your input is always appreciated I totally do not believe your BF to be 42% with the amount of exercise you do and your current wgt. I'm positive there must be some gross error somewhere! I was talking to a fledgling doctor (doing wgt training etc) the other day and he seemed to think hydrostatic test was more accurate than DXA scan, I thought it was the other way around!

I'm a firm believer of HIIT but when I tried it with walk/run (C25K) the knee problem emerged. Now I'm trying it on a BodyRider at home, it's a real killer and I hate it with a passion but I know I have to do it. I really need to join a gym and do some wgt training but that will have to wait until after our trip to Australia.

Weight wise I seem to be revolving though the same door, as is the case with many JBs, maybe I need a maintenance break then the lbs will start dropping I can't let go for fear of gaining so I'll just have to persevere like Cindy, Carol and many others JBs

This weekend my family is gathering together to be with my grandmother in what may be her last days with us. She is 86 years old and her health has rapidly declined over the last couple of weeks since getting pneumonia after the new year. She really has been in extremely poor health for the last 20 some odd years, with diabetes and heart disease and a host of other complications.

All her children and grandchildren and great grandchildren in the area will be there with her telling stories about all the great times we have had together and keeping her company. She has said she is ready to go, and it's just too painful to hold on any longer and she is ok with letting go. We all have been hoping she would pull through, and still hope, and she has before, coming back from what many thought was the end, but this time is different and the last thing we want is for her to stay for us and prolong the agony she is in now.

Hopefully having us all around will make it easier for her and remind her of the happy times of her life and take some of the pain away.
