Yeah, I definitely didn't do a "proper" fat fast. I was closer to 1400 calories at 90% fat. I think it was quite successful!

This morning my blood ketones were the highest they have ever been in my entire life. Which means the three day fat fast worked -like magic - and I am now deep, deep, deep in ketosis. My blood ketones this morning were 4.4 mmol/l, which is actually a bit too high; according to the experts it should be between 1.5 - 3. But my blood sugar was 80 so no worries about ketoacidosis. Just some freakin' amazing fat burning going on! I didn't think that was even possible for my body! My metabolism is apparently really resistant and my liver was holding on tight to some glycogen stores. Which will probably happen again even though I keep my carbs <25 on UpDays and <15 on DownDays, since my metabolism is so resistant to ketosis. By the third day my liver had given up its glycogen and the ketosis was deep in the optimal range for the first time, ever, in my life. My conclusion? I think I will do a three day fat fast once a month.

However, with all the extra calories my weight has inched back up a bit, which is unusual for me. In all fairness to my body, the fat fast was VERY high in sodium compared to my usual diet, so that probably has a lot to do with it. Nevertheless, it seems I have benefited all I can from my three day fat fast so today is going to be a regular (uber-low-carb) DownDay:

GG's Crispbread with a Laughing Cow wedge for breakfast
Hard boiled egg & celery for lunch
Omelet for dinner

Veggie broth, herbal tea, Crystal Light, and sugar-free jell-o as needed.

Just some freakin' amazing fat burning going on! I didn't think that was even possible for my body! My metabolism is apparently really resistant and my liver was holding on tight to some glycogen stores. Which will probably happen again even though I keep my carbs <25 on UpDays and <15 on DownDays, since my metabolism is so resistant to ketosis. By the third day my liver had given up its glycogen and the ketosis was deep in the optimal range for the first time, ever, in my life. My conclusion? I think I will do a three day fat fast once a month.

However, with all the extra calories my weight has inched back up a bit, which is unusual for me. In all fairness to my body, the fat fast was VERY high in sodium compared to my usual diet, so that probably has a lot to do with it. Nevertheless, it seems I have benefited all I can from my three day fat fast so today is going to be a regular (uber-low-carb) DownDay:

GG's Crispbread with a Laughing Cow wedge for breakfast
Hard boiled egg & celery for lunch
Omelet for dinner

Veggie broth, herbal tea, Crystal Light, and sugar-free jell-o as needed.

Thank you nikki, following your update with interest! You were going down nicely even before you started the FF or has it been longer than 3-4 day? Read SS's linked threads last night. Sounds pretty tough but I might go for it if I don't see any results after adhering properly to my rotation numbers! It is just so annoying that the exercise doesn't seem to make any difference on the scale!

These last few days have been a little disappointing. But I have not been sleeping well, especially on DDs. Does anyone else have issues with that? And is your weight reflective of your sleep patterns at all?

It's not a huge deal. I'm essentially within my goal range so I'm not complaining. Just trying to figure it all out ...
