Has anyone lowered their set point?

I know there's some debate as to whether set point even exists. I believe it does. Although I've had some success doing JUDDD last year, I'm back where I started in the 163-167 range - where I've been for almost all of the last 12 years, excluding pregnancies. I REALLY want to lose about 10 lbs, and for my body to be happy being at that weight. I'd love to hear what anyone has learned about achieving a lower set point - Shangri-La? JUDDD? HCG? Anything else?

My body loves 126. I prefer 122 but it tends to take work to get and stay there, but I can stay at 126 with little to no effort.

Thanks for chiming in Carly. I remember you on the JUDDD board when I first started going it last year. So do you think your body is happy at 126 because of the time it's been there? Are you still doing the 5:2?

I'm doing EOD right now in a vain attempt to get from 126 to 122, but with the increase in exercise it's not happening.

I absolutely believe set points exists. There is no reason for me not to have been gaining weight year after year after year while doing nothing but eating exactly how I wanted; but my body settled on a new -- albeit higher than ever -- set point. I gained and lost and then when I gained back again, I never went to a new high. I did gain in different areas, tho.

WOE: Whatever plan keeps me around 150 lbs!
I haven't found a set point for my body. I spent many years around 135, but when I gained, I got up to nearly 300 and always seemed to settle around 280. I could diet down to 250 or so, then gain back to around 280 and stay there. I guess that could be a set point for me. I've been under 165 for a year now and have been in the 145 range for months, but I don't think it's a set point, as I could go lower and can easily gain as well. Perhaps I should go down to 135 and see if I can easily maintain there. That's within the "healthy range" for my height, but on the lower side for my age.

Interesting. I think my set point would go as high as 180 and stay there if I continued to eat like I do without DDs. I don't think I'd go back up to 200+ unless I gave up any semblance of counting calories and deliberately ate tons of calories. I don't want to find out.

I have read that the body is very happy to go with a higher set point, but it's difficult to lower it. Evolutionary survivalist thing.

Carly, what is EOD? Why do you think exercise is hindering the weight loss? I'm now convinced that too much cardio for me prevents me from losing. But I do try to do 5 miles of walking every day and I think that helps, esp with the appetite and energy levels. Strength training - no idea what impact that has, as I haven't done enough of it regularly to discover. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Every Other Day.

Muscle weighs more for one thing and just the general inflammation from being sore.
