Maybe I shouldn't be posting on a maintenance thread, but I have a long history of losing and regaining -- I do the same. I stop weighing every day when I'm in a regaining trend. It's like turning a blind eye to the problem.

Similarly, I also stop checking my outfit in a full-length mirror before going out.

I have plans, for the next time I fly, to wear a unitard under a caftan, and then just whip off the latter for the screening. Just for fun. My children, of course, are mortified to even hear about this plan, making me all the more determined to DO IT!

I better hope no one is filming! Or get my makeup and hair done, just in case.

The odd thing about this every other day calorie restriction stuff is that it doesn’t seem to be slowing down. When I lost weight with LC I didn’t really have to decide when to stop, because the weight loss just gradually slowed right down. I’m at around that weight now, and it’s showing no sign of stopping. It looks as if I’ll have to actually make a decision this time!

Did you move to 4:3 as a way of backing into your goal or are you still ADF?

I’m still on EOD. If I do 4/3, then my extra eating day would fall this weekend. I’m not sure 4/3 would make much difference though: just one extra day per fortnight. I might go straight to 5/2. My husband’s still on EOD day, so whatever I do is on a two week cycle so that we can eat proper meals together when we are eating.

I have hit 154(after a Down Day) for the first time! It will be a little while before I am consistently at it after Up Days, but I am now approaching the strange new world of maintenance for real!

My first plan is to do 4:3, and since this Saturday was going to be an Up Day, and then I was going to celebrate on Sunday with some Super Bowl feasting, I decided this weekend will be my first 4:3 practice. I'm not switching rotations, or having a Medium Day, I'm practicing maintenance! Pretty thrilling!

I keep deciding to start the transition — then postponing it for another couple of pounds or another couple of weeks… It really is time to start doing it though.

I've mentioned reverse dieting in several places and thought that I probably needed to put an explanation here to make it easier to refer.

When I neared my original goal weight, I went into maintenance, and reached my goal some weeks later.

Reverse dieting is when you deliberately increase your calories/food intake by a set amount in a week by adding back in (say) 4g of carbs or 3g of fat. If you remain weight stable by doing that for a week, then you might add in an additional 3g of fat or so the next week and just keep doing that. I'm now eating the equivalent of approx. 200-250kcals more per day than I was when I first went into maintenance about 7 months ago. I don't have my records to hand but I've increased my fat intake altho' I didn't increase the carb intake by much (this is related to my WOE for migraine management). This is perfect for me, however, as I am very partial to a cheeseboard after dinner on an UD.

I based my reverse diet on Dr Layne Norton's series of video logs on 'metabolic adaptation (he's a protein metabolism researcher amongst other things). His latest video log (#24) is on his site (biolayne) and YouTube and it is specifically on the topic of reverse dieting (I do, however, recommend watching his previous talks on metabolic adaptation and especially video log #23).

Norton's specific interest is physique models/body builders who alternate between bulking up and fat shredding but a lot of his work on metabolic adaptation seems to have crossovers for people who've been losing weight, have adapted to a much lower kcal intake and could usefully do with increasing that level of intake to ensure greater metabolic flexibility etc.

Sept 2014 A recent DXA scan reported very low muscle mass (sarcopenia) so I'm still thinking about how to cope with that. I have some joint surgery to schedule. I may miss questions that people ask me or personals. Apologies if I do, it's not intentional.

I've ordered a cheese board at restaurants before for dessert. Here, at least, it's usually an assortment of fine cheeses and can be accompanied by crackers or crusty bread and different spreads and fruits. It's fantastic! I'm not sure how it compares to the version in the UK.

Congrats and welcome to maintenance!

I have done a full 31 days of EOD. I welcomed in 2014 at 129.9 and I was not happy! Today I'm in my happier place at 122.5.

I'm considering staying with EOD and going into new lower territory, but also really thinking I need to go back to 5:2 and let the exercise tone up the arms and abs.

Luckily I thoroughly enjoy EOD and 5:2 so it's not a problem per se except I just don't know if 117 or even 115 will make a real difference since I think what I'm most bothered by is loose, excess skin, which could be worse if I lose another 7 pounds.

That's it. At home, it tends to be an eclectic assortment of people's favourite cheeses with some pickles, fruit cheese (e.g. quince paste), apples, grapes and plain biscuits (UK sort, not US sort) to complement but not detract from the cheese. In restaurants, the cheese tends to be themed - so, Italian, Spanish or French, or a selection of English regional specialities, or Welsh cheeses.

I make some soft cheeses (I don't have the space to do hard, much as I'd like to). I home-smoke some cheeses and we enjoy those on what is probably a too regular basis.

Ok, but you'll have to bring it.

"Cheese" is legal here now but I don't have the first clue how someone goes about getting it. It's not like they started selling it at Safeway.

I decided to start 5:2 this week, and I’ll pick the two days to fit in with my husband’s alternate day fasting, so it’ll be Mon/Wed one week and Tue/Thu the next. This is a Tue/Thu week, so until Saturday it’s exactly the same as if I’d carried on alternating days.

I suppose it’ll take a couple of weeks for me to see the effect on my weight.

This is my rd. 3 week I think-? On fast 5 with 5-2 thrown in for fun.
My scale is going up and down a pound. My clothes are getting bigger so I'm happy with wearing baggy clothes. I was really surprised when I got on the scale and it says about the same wt. For couple weeks.
I wish u luck. Keep an eye on clothes fitting, I'm anxious to hear how you do.

I’ve just done my first (apart from holidays/visitors) three consecutive up days. The really odd thing was that I just wasn’t hungry. This eating pattern really kills my appetite! Mon & Wed are down days this week, then five consecutive up/normal days.

I was doing M and W DDs for the longest. I've been hinting to DW that I'll be going back to 5:2 and that I'll do MW or TTH depending on her schedule.
