MY new challenge is to band the salt shaker from my hand

Reading over way to many different books since I'm iced inside the house.
Ive decided to limit salt intake at first to 1,500 MG a day, and final drop it to 1,000....it's a goal. Normal recommeded is 2,500 MG a day if remember right, don't quote me.
I feel my not adding extra salt will work fine for me and reading labels.
I don't cook with mixes but do love pickles, all the salty stuff.
So will start reading labels and also I've introduced not drinking any liquid while eating...that is totally not normal for me. Still have cold drinks hour before meal and not for an hour post meals. Thanks CIndy for that tip.
Did have a half a cup of warm water with my unsalted popcorn last night.
Although the real butter I used had 100mg? per tablespoon.
Lots of small but white knuckling changes I'm going to make for one month.
Im hoping to leave two pounds behind me getting off the salt.
Starting today on a dd is a good idea. So far zero salt dd. it's a little tricky.
Something else lately while Juddding along, not good side affect.
I Have noticed when I have been successful on having very low cal dd. 200 and down lower.
That although I feel good the next morning. My memory suffers.
I noticed it on a few occasions. Example.
While playing my guitar I can't seem to remember which cord come next in the song being played, very not good. I noticed it but just thought it was nothing. My hubby is the one that said "you need to eat something"
I didn't of course, I stopped playing for then...So I'm on a mission to see how my brain reacts tonight and in the morning. Lord knows I need all the brain cells I have left to help me. It's the only negective effect I've noticed myself and then it may just be something else. My grandmother had the disease Alzheimer's in her 70's.
It was terrible. Her worst times were in the evening, Sundown syndrome. Until it effected her all the time.
Sorry bummer note toward the end...Lets be happy, no sad dd today
Any one else want to slack off on the sodium with me?
Probably others have already done-do the limit sodium, share your experience if u will?

Terri, I'm not overly concerned with my sodium intake, so I'll pass on joining you there, but wow, interesting about your memory issues on low DDs! Something to keep a watch on, for sure. Keep us posted?

It's ok
I must be prepping myself for a blood test on cholesterol again.
Laying off liver would be a start!
Egg whites work very nicely for a substitute for crackers and bread.
Now if in could figure out something to put on the egg white that doesn't have 500 MG of sodium.

I get wicked leg cramps when I get too little sodium, so watch for that. In fact, before my Christmas vacation, I was starting to get "ghosts" of those cramps, so was actually trying to increase sodium intake.

Not trying to be a killjoy but did you see the report on sodium that the Institute of Medicine put out last summer? There is some evidence that populations that consume less than 1500 mg / day have a higher death rate than those that get more. More research is required but some caution should be observed, imo.

Frosty, I read that too. I salt everything, and made a point to check my blood sodium levels at my last blood draw and they were actually a tad low.

Terri, if you feel the need to reduce your sodium, for whatever reason, I wish you luck. I will not be joining you either.

Well looking through my pantry this evening for low in sodium foods, unreal, had no idea.
I'm glad I vowed to just not add salt to food.
Even lettuce has salt not alot, but egg 75? All canned goods over the top full of salt.
A can of peas with less sodium 1/2 cup 140. Fresh raw egg 65 MG sodium!
Walnuts and dried cranberry are O sodium, love those guys.
I too m prone to have leg cramps. Thanks for infor Frosty I will read it later, interesting stuff. Processed foods have soooo much salt and sugar added.

I need salt. I will get dizzy and faint if I don't have enough. I will also get those terrible leg cramps- OMG.

I haven't had enough salt (for me) the last few days and feel every time I stand up.

I'll have to skip the 'skip the salt' challenge- good luck to you!

If you eating good sea salt you can eat quite a bit and get some really good healthy minerals from it. Salt is really good for you.
I think I'll skip this one too. If I don't eat enough salt, especially on DD's I get bad cramps and feel lightheaded.
Good luck though.
