Time of day and sirtuin activator supplement

I read a very interesting article about taking meds and supplements and what times are best for which substance.

Anyway, it strongly suggests that if you are taking certain meds or supplements to control cholesterol, you should take them at night before you go to bed.

I don't take any cholesterol meds, but one of the benefits I read about Pterostilbene is that it could help lower bad cholesterol.

So, while I take 2 or 3 50mg capsules in the morning (have only been doing it for one week so far), I decided yesterday I will start taking one right before bed as well.

It did not affect my sleep and since it says on the bottle that it is a "sirtuin activator" I'm hoping it will work through the night to get the rescue gene working strongly.

Any thoughts?

Kissa 01-06-2014 11:01 AM

I take a statin at night, so I use all my Ptero in the morning. I think it is something to do with the statin that makes them recommend it at night. I doubt it is necessary for the Ptero, and I want to feel the appetite control myself.

No doubt one of our 'scientists' will give you a more useful reply.

Following this discussion, since I take pteroblue the morning or dds only.

Carly 01-07-2014 06:00 AM

The pterostilbene gives me energy- loads of it! I could never take it in the evening.

mafiamom 01-07-2014 08:10 AM

^^^ that's what i would worry about as well.

gotsomeold 01-07-2014 08:52 AM

For me, ptero is an energized bunny. The only time I took ptero after 04:00 PM, I was up all night.

Agreed!
Yet, it's odd that I can have a cup of java late at night and it doesn't affect me..........who wouda thunk that! :)

Me too! Caffeine....nothing. But I'm terrified to take ptero at night. I love my sleep! At one point I realized that Claritin would keep me up if I took it before bed. I know it's non-drowsy, but come on!

mafiamom 01-07-2014 09:41 AM

oh, i can't drink coffee after 2 pm. it's strange, it doesn't affect me when i drink it, but come midnight i am ready to paint the house.

itsmeshelly01 01-07-2014 09:56 AM

So what kind of Ptero are you guys taking? Maybe i need to jump on this band wagon if it gives energy and controls appetite.
Can i get it from Amazon and what is the best kind?

Seabreezes 01-07-2014 10:58 AM

Google Vitamins Because which we call vitamin doctor and you get the most for your dollar with them. There is a shipping charge, but it is nominal if you are in the 48 states.

I think the 150g pills are great. I also take reservatrol. Dr. J says they work well together. There was a long post yesterday about the benefits. It was on the regular ptero thread.

I am currently buying the Jarrow brand. I think I first bought it from Netrition.com. However, I do shop a lot on amazon, so I just placed an order there. I get the 50mg capsules. That gives me flexibility if I want to take two or if I want to take three and break it up during the day.

I was taking two in the morning and one mid afternoon. Now I'm doing two in the morning and one in the evening.

So far no problems with sleeping. Although in the day I do notice being brighter, more energized and at the same time more peaceful. Stessful events just don't get to me right now and I wonder if it's the sirtuins being activated?

itsmeshelly01 01-07-2014 11:46 AM

Thank you Yam. That is the one i was looking at on Amazon.
I'm a prime member so i try to buy everything there that i can since the shipping is free.

But I'm looking at the Vitamin Doctor and they are way cheaper. They have a buy 1 get 2 free deal right now. $20.00 for 3 bottles and there are 90 in each bottle!!
Is that for real? That seems to good to be true. Are they as good as the Jarrow ones i wonder?

I can't compare since Jarrow is the only brand I've tried. I'm a prime member, too, but the Jarrow supplements are not prime eligible.

so, if I were you I would go for the buy 1 get 2 free and give it a shot.

I think Cindy (Kissa) used those.

You might want to check with her.

You can also get the 150mg B1G2F for $24.99
That's an 18 month supply!
(I haven't tried this yet, but I've been following this thread as a curious skeptic...)

itsmeshelly01 01-07-2014 01:02 PM

Yes, that is a great deal!!! $28.94 with shipping for 3 bottles with 180 in each!!
Can't beat that!!!

That is what I got last time and that is what Kissa uses. I was getting the Jarrow from A, but there is no price comparison. I had to pay extra for shipping to HI, but still worth it. I'll get some more when I am on the mainland. The expiry date is way out there.

itsmeshelly01 01-07-2014 02:13 PM

I ordered the ptero. I'm hoping for good results.
Seabreezes, have you ordered any of there other products? I am wondering if there products are good. I need some fish oil but I know its good to get good quality fish oil supplements.
I usually get that stuff from A but since the prices are so good im jsut wondering if i shouldnt get some other things too.

I've never taken the Jarrow, but I have the B1G2 ones - 150mg and take one every morning, Up or Down. I didn't think I could feel anything, but then inexplicable stopped taking them for a few days and my appetite really increased, making DDs tough. Started back up and my appetite squashed back down right away. I'll never quit them again!

Yennie 01-07-2014 02:33 PM

The B1G2 were the ones we were talking about in one of the other Ptero threads and a couple people who'd ordered them checked the expiry date for me. Because its an 18 month supply I didn't want to buy them and then have to toss them. They're dated long past the 18 months it will take to go through them. Now I just need to get off my booty and order! I need them for sure!

itsmeshelly01 01-07-2014 02:47 PM

That is awesome you guys. Thanks for the replies on that. I am excited about starting to use them.
I hope it doesnt take long to get them. I'm not having too much trouble on DD's but i do get hungry and end up having my full 500 calories. Having something to help maybe eat 300 or 400 would be great!!!

Seabreezes 01-07-2014 03:19 PM

I haven't tried any of their other supplements, but it might be worth a try due to the great prices.

Kissa 01-07-2014 04:08 PM

I can't afford to worry about expiry dates. A good friend ordered and brought them over for me, I have enough for 6 years.

I take Resveratrol too.

Slimming-up 01-07-2014 10:08 PM

Curiosity got the best of me - and the good deal was irresistible. Soon I will see for myself if I can enjoy the benefits I keep hearing about. :)

itsmeshelly01 01-08-2014 05:48 AM

I cant wait to get mine either. I really hope it works. I might try ordering some other vitamins but I wish I could find some info on google about how well they are made or how they are made or anything.

Kaos0100 01-08-2014 07:43 AM

I just got mine and started taking them. I haven't noticed a difference...I wonder if it has to build up in your system? Mine have an expiration date of December 2017. I also got the B1G2 free.

Kissa 01-08-2014 07:48 AM

How long have you been taking them Karen?
