Thank you so much Carly this was at our NYE party last night. I am thrilled with it, makes me feel good about myself.

I have started a thread for us all to show ourselves a little love. Please post there often. We are all too critical.

Thank you so much Kissa!!! You are a sweetheart. I really have trouble saying anything or even feeling anything good about myself right now. I know I am having some major issues with hormones and that isn't helping either. He is a wonderful man and I am so lucky to have him and it really pains me to know how much this is hurting him. He really thinks I am beautiful even though I have gained 20 lbs in the last 2 yrs. It doesn't matter to him at all.

I think having a thread like that might be a really great idea. We could just go there to post something good about ourselves everyday and maybe we will start to believe it. Or me anyway!!

I have another question I forgot to ask earlier. I am wondering if anyone has tried Mon, Wed, Fri DD's and had any luck with that. It is really hard having DDs on the weekend but during the week they are easy peasy. I don't like the week when my DD is only tue and thur. I love the simple DDs during work. It makes planning so easy. Any luck with that for anyone?
I am thinking about trying it.

I think a number of people find that the MWF DDs do work. It may be a little slower, but as we know this is not a race. Personally, I think that so much is about having good DDs and few UUADs. 3 good DDs a week is better than 4 messed up DDs.

Me. And DH.

I've followed this for all of 2013 and it made scheduling so much simpler because weekends tend to have social or sporting commitments. Where possible, one of the weekend days was as much of a high-end DD or a MD as I could manage but I think this demonstrated more of an emotional commitment to JUDDD than a strict necessity.

back Kim! I'm just recently back myself. Great to be here, isn't it?
The doctor initiated it when I went for my annual gynecological exam. She noticed a pronounced family history of both breast and ovarian cancer.

I posted in my journal a renewed commitment in 2014 for counting my DDs and UDs. I sort of let the counting aspect get away from me. I think I need to revisit that. I am also wondering if I should revisit my numbers. I'm still using the ones I started with, which was 40 pounds ago.
I also posted in my journal (insert semi-shameless self plug here; journal linked in my sig, post #167) the truth behind those girls/women we see in the fitness ads, on TV and in magazines. My sister is an aspiring fitness model. You know, the ones they show pictures of, looking all skinny & build, to accompany the "flat abs in just 10 minutes a day!" articles. And its far from 10 minutes a day. Anyway, if you're tired of being inundated with fitness/nutrition/weight loss advertising filled to the brim with people who look amazing, and the "do it my way, the easy way and you'll look like THIS" tagline hurts your soul, pop on over and read the truth behind how those girls get to look like that.
Since I unintentionally had 2 DDs in a row, we had a glorious lunch at a local restaurant that runs a train around the ceiling. (Its the monkey's fave restaurant being as he's a train nut - someone got the G gauge, remote control "Polar Express" from Santa.) I tried to keep it semi-reasonable, and will have a low cal lunch but all that talk about counting - ha ha ha. No idea what my lunch was! So, start counting tomorrow?
I hope you all had a glorious New Year!

It surely is flexible. For a fair few months of the year in the UK, you're flirting with hypothermia if you're out on the water in a kayak for a while, and if group leaders are concerned, they sometimes ask everyone in a group to eat something so individuals don't feel singled out. It's utterly bizarre to me, but some people react to the suggestion that they may be developing hypothermia as if it's a slur on their endurance or hardiness.

Like head injuries - it's a corollary that there's always the possibility that most people don't recognise that they're developing hypothermia and refuse assistance or instructions to eat/drink. So, on expeditions, it's sometimes easier to have a group snack and cognitive check round. I very much needed JUDDD's flexibility to work around this.

I think it can work as long as Monday's and Wednesday's DD aren't constantly balancing out the weekend gain. If your weekend UDs are controlled it really should work.

Cindy, you do look more and more phenom in each picture! I think I love the ones with something fanciful tucked in your hair

I'll post this on the good thoughts thread, but I wanted to say quickly that I've had some great therapy, and a few things stuck with me that can be generalized:

1) fake it till you make it. It's like a crutch when you break your ankle... You won't need it forever, so use the support when you need it.

2) this is a writing thing, and works in self talk also- be POSITIVE!
Instead of saying, I shouldn't do X, even if it's I shouldn't be negative, frame it positively. I should be positive.
This is the crutch from point 1 . Even when you don't feel it, spin it anyway. It will become 2nd nature, and a good habit.
Aka, what our parents said about not having something nice to say...

3) I used to think mantras, or affirmations, were lame. Till I found some that worked for me. Not all at once, just one at a time for issues I was working on.
How about, I will be kind to myself.
I will speak kindly to myself.

I could go on, but I'll save it for elsewhere. I do hope this helps, because we all deserve a kind and loving inner voice.

S.

Shelly,

It's an old LC recipe that was floating around these boards 9 years ago. I haven't made it in a long time but thought with some tweaking it would be something I could have on DDs to get a little bit of protein. Here is the original recipe with my tweaks in parentheses:

3 eggs (1 egg and egg beaters equivalent to 2 whole eggs)
3/4 c. Heavy cream (1/2 c. unsweetened almond milk, 1/4 c. Cream)
1 c. Cottage cheese (can use FF or low fat)
1/2c. Splenda (1/4 c. Splenda and liquid sucralose/EZ Sweet to equal 1/4 cup)
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix together in blender. Pour into 5 ramekins and sprinkle tops with grated nutmeg. Place ramekins in water bath and bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes. Let cool and refrigerate.

I am thinking about trying it.
I haven't personally tried it, but Dr. Johnson answers this question in the new book. He says:
"Many people find it easiest to do Monday, Wednesday, and Friday down days and make either or both Saturday and Sunday up days. This works well and clearly maintains activation of the anti-inflammatory process. However, most people eat more on weekends . . . so if you are trying to lose weight on the Alternate-Day Diet, you should exercise caution and keep an up-to-the-minute food log to remain conscious of what you are eating. As soon as you eat something, write it down. Another strategy would be to make Sunday an "in between" day, meaning that you would still restrict to some extent but eat more than you would on a regular down day. Some alternate-day dieters have found that this works for them while others have found that calculating in-between day calories just adds to their stress and therefore, becomes counterproductive. Again, as I've said before, it's a matter of knowing yourself and what works for you."

(I love that last line ).

OMG, Kissa, love the new you!
for a better weather in UK

DD, DH and I celebrated the new year with Sambuca shots! Decide to go for brunch (slept too late to get ready for the planned breakfast!) at a local restaurant. Needless to say, ate way too much as it was a sumptuous buffet! Came home, took a long nap, plans for the long walk went out of the window! All in all, a lazy, restful start to a New Year! But tomorrow is another day!

Likewise joining in the chorus of admiration for Cindy's latest avi

In and out today as I need to plant up some more Spring bulbs - the ones I planted earlier in the season have rotted in the ground because it's been so wet. I can't bear the idea of no Spring garden so I shall be out in the wind and face-slapping rain to do what I can. (I'm going to have to put a polycarbonate cover over some of the newly-planted pots to stop them going underwater...

Have a good day, JBs!

It's so refreshing to see the new resolutions for 2014 - have a new thread to "love" ourselves - and see a new avi - very pretty Kissa!

dawn - happy for your test results.
slow- good luck with your spring bulb planting - sorry you are having all that rain.
itsmeshelly - I tried the M-W-F (4:3) thing but mentally I wasn't prepared. My two UD in a row began to feel like a cause for UUAD. It was totally my fault though - I ate too many calories and instead of maintaining, the scale went up.

I will be retired at the end of this month and being home every day, I will need to have a committed plan for eating - when I am at work, a DD is no big deal - I don't bring extra food with me and I rarely think about eating... being home, however, is usally cause to EAT! I can do it - but planning and sticking to the plan will take some thought.

Lots of activity last night!!! I love that. I was able to skim over things but not fully read all of it.
Kissa, I will also say the same to you. You look amazing!!!

Thank you everyone for the kind words.

I think that might be hardest part about doing mon, wed, fri is not letting the weekends get out of hand. I think I might try it and see how it goes. It cant hurt at this point. Ok, heading to the good feelings thread!!!!
