So that's the first thing to eliminate from the bedroom...bedrooms are for sleeping and, well, you know.

I also learned sometime ago, that we have a residual part of the brain that is always trying to protect us and is checking for noises during our sleep periods, at least so say the x-spurts (x=unknown factor, spurts= a drip under pressure). I picked up a white-noise maker (I use the rain forest), make sure the door is closed (I know my house is secure) and the windows are foiled. I keep an eye thingie in the nightstand and I sleep like a baby...sometimes tossing and turning all night, some times out like a light.

I know some of our friends won't be able to do some of these, but maybe you can find a suggestion you can use.
OMG, This is us in reverse! My DH is always telling me to change my sleeping pattern, haven't been able to do this for God knows how many years, not going to happen now! He is a very light sleeper, always has been! When I sleep, I sleep like a log!

My bf is a night owl. He rarely goes to bed before 3 am, and most of the time it's after I leave for work. He works from home, so he can do that.

I have tinnitus so earplugs would drive me insane. I do keep a box fan going at night year round. The white noise from that helps drown out all the little noises. If I have to sleep somewhere else and forget to bring a fan, I have a very hard time sleeping.

oh! I forgot sweet smelling stuff also helps sleeping well...I like Chamomile and Lavender.

Why is it that those who do sleep well don't understand those who don't. My DH wondered why I couldn't.

BTW, when I said I slept well when I was really holding to the DD numbers, I should have said, "I slept deeply with very restful sleep and peaceful dreams, but I didn't sleep as many hours as I did before." More energy and much better sleep. I think this woe does create changes in us....now if I can just get back in the swing of things.

Woke up at my normal time this morning at 6:20, rolled over for a few more minutes in my toasty warm bed, and came to again about 9:40. I was in bed a full 11 hours. I NEVER DO THAT!!! It felt so luxurious and decadent. I think I made up for those lost hours from the other day!

That is so good, sleep is such a great healer and there is a lot of research that shows we lose weight better if we get sufficient sleep.

Of course I should be a size 0 if it were that simple.

My mother taught me that sleeping is a sin. Seriously! She never slept. I'm convinced now that a lot of her unhappiness was due to sleep deprivation.

So, I married a man who can sleep on command, anywhere. If we are driving somewhere on a long trip and he gets tired he either pulls over and puts his head in my lap and starts snoring immediately, or asks me to drive and he goes right to sleep for 20 minutes.

I had to teach myself how to sleep hour by hour, but could only make it for 5 hours a night for many many years.

There were lots of things I hated about going through menopause. One thing I appreciated is that I wanted to and did sleep all night! Some times for 12 hours! This was new for me and DH couldn't get over it. He was delighted. Now I average 8 hours and don't have any problem most of the time.

That is a great outcome Yam-Yam.

It is interesting that there is still a culture that getting up early makes you a 'good' person. I will get up at any hour if I need to, but otherwise I am only too happy to enjoy a lie in. No guilt here.

Me Again. I'm soooooo happy that DH joined my gym! We have been going together every two days. He goes right to the lap pool and swims. He is getting ready for his next swim meet. He is on the Master's swim team.

I've been doing weight training and then cardio. I do an interval program on the Precor elliptical machine. Wow. I forgot how much I can sweat!

This is a DD for me and we just got back from the gym. I feel so great! I'm finding that working out on DDs is great. It keeps me busy so I'm absolutely not thinking about food. It takes 20 minutes to drive to 24 hour fitness from our house and 20 minutes back, of course.

That means we have lots of chat time on the way about what our goals are. Then we compare notes on the way home about what we accomplished and we give each other big kudos and high fives.

I remember listening to Dr. Christiane Northrop on PBS. She is such a lovely lady and fun speaker. Also a great writer and I have two of her books. (One of them was my bible during menopause because so many weird things were happening to me. I could look up what was happening and find it in the book. )

Anyway, she said at our age, women should brag about our naps! She said when we are out with friends we should say "I took a 20 minute nap today" and someone else should top it like "Well, I took TWO 30 minute naps! One in the morning and one in the afternoon!" And someone else should brag: "I slept 12 hours last night!" I loved that! She said they don't call it "beauty sleep" for nothin'!

Me too, though I am more inclined to get up early and get stuff done ~ and then have a nap later on to catch up on sleep.

My mother-in-law thinks that napping is something only lazy people do.

I always laugh when babies don't want to take naps. I wish I could take a nap every flipping day. I average about five hours of sleep a night and that's on a good night.

Carol, I'm so glad you were able to get some rest.

My fitbit usually says about 91-92% sleep efficiency, but I've been doing better the last couple weeks. I saw 98% a couple of times!!!! I have also had 2 days in the last 3 weeks where I woke at 1:30am and stayed up all day until 10pm that night. I felt like this ---->

DW and I joined the gym last Saturday and we have enjoyed going together. We are also participating in a challenge on Every Move. (I don't want to jinx it, but she's been JUDDDing for 3 weeks. I'm super happy for her!)

Kissa, you probably are a size 0, albeit,an American one!

Oh my Yam-Yam, you guys are going full rudder ahead and together too! And here I thought all men get grumpier with age!
My DH and I have decided that we have serious irreconcilable differences when we go for a walk together! So he does his thing and I do mine

On another note, still having difficulty sleeping, first I'm cold then my feet are burning I started Potato hack couple of days ago,I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

Hi folks.

Just checking in.

Today was epic, but we managed. I have an affirnation for this: I am bigger than my emotions.
Being sad won't overtake me.

Last night was rough, and today... We found some moments of normalcy, but its tenuous.
I know each day will improve, it just sucks going through it, telling people who cared for him...

all of you for your messages here and on FB. Dh and I are very moved by your thoughts and kind words for us.

gnight.
S.

It will pass but I'm feeling like the Wreck of the Hesperus (frequent saying of a much-loved aunt). (I think it's the disorientation that accompanies an ear-infection and the complete lack of proprioception.)

As I'm good for nothing, I've decided to go to the live broadcast of the Bolshoi Ballet this afternoon at my local cinema Even if I feel groggy, it will be in reasonable surroundings and watching enchantment. They're performing Jewels.
Quote:
Inspired by brilliant precious stones, George Balanchine exquisitely choreographed Jewels in 1967 as three disparate parts, each with its own composer and striking beauty. The ballet serves as a tribute to the three cities-Paris, New York, and St. Petersburg, all of which carved the elegance , aesthetic and style of Balanchine. Emeralds, honoring the French romantic school, reveals the most delicate of movements, while Rubies reflects the lightning-fast pace of New York in a jazzy, witty and sharp attack. Diamonds is an homage to the opulence and regality of Balanchine's native Russia. Recently added to the Bolshoi repertoire, the dancers bring "a fascinating life" (Financial Times) to this ballet that combines pure virtuosity, class, and elegance.

Good idea. I seem to have picked up an ear infection too. The post-cold congestion was hanging on for so long that I suppose it was bound to happen.

Dh and I are very moved by your thoughts and kind words for us.

gnight.
S.

As I'm good for nothing, I've decided to go to the live broadcast of the Bolshoi Ballet this afternoon at my local cinema Even if I feel groggy, it will be in reasonable surroundings and watching enchantment. They're performing Jewels.
Sounds beautiful!
