Happiest of season's greetings to everyone. I'm so blessed to have you all, and JUDDD in my life, even though, admittedly, I am NOT working the program right now. But I know it will be there for me when I'm ready again - hopefully before 1/1/14.

It's almost 11:30 in the UK and DH will shortly go round the neighbours to distribute some baked goods (Banbury cakes, peanut cookies, cherry & raisin squares, cherry & almond squares, spiced biscuits, ginger biscuits, lemon & vanilla Italian biscuits, various biscotti etc.) and bits and pieces like sausage rolls and Christmas trifles to some.

I'll actually have some space in my kitchen

Have a joyful day, JBs, and thank you all for the advice and support that make this Christmas so much lighter than the last one.

Merry Happy Blessed Christmas to all of you.

Lili pass your dad's fried chicken. Oh yummy. You said tater salad, what no
macaroni and cheese?

London, England, I'll be right over for the sausage rolls.
We had a British grocer in our little town and I could go over for a
few rolls, some of your wonderful chipolatas and other good stuff, but
they moved away. Our town is too small to accommodate this store (sob)

Love to you all.

dear Jesus

We are finished eating......burp.

Well a DD never looked so good as this day is fading away. It is 7 p.m.
I did not over eat or eat anything to the point that I said
"I NEVER WANT TO EAT THAT AGAIN

Lili my mom was a down south home girl. She still had her southern accent
when I was growing up. So all the food she cooked was from the south.
We fried everything except water. She was the only person I ever knew who
salted her watermelon, but made sweet watermelon pickles.
Fried okra, cornmeal went into all kinds of stuff, like pancakes.
She fried hominy in bacon fat, pop and sizzle. I never ate mac 'n cheese
from a box. She made it scratch. She made cracklin's out of ham skin.
She never touched poultry of any kind that wasn't lip smacking tender
juicy and crunchy. You are blessed with family. Hey daddy you keep cooking ok?
You have a handsome family.

Barb, I love your expressions. Your mother sounds delightful, and I love that you said she fried everything but water! I am a true southerner as well, and have eaten lots of fried food all my life too. However, my mother tried to cook healthy, so we didn't have fried food all that often, but it was always welcome and delicious!

I, too, am smitten by that description.

I keep reading about watermelon pickles but I have absolutely no mental image of how they'd crunch or taste (we only have the 1 type of watermelon here and I doubt it's the 'correct' type for either watermelon or watermelon rind pickles).

I'm a California girl and I salted my watermelon! I think my dad must have done it and his mother came from the south.

My mother made yummy watermelon pickles. You use the rind to make them, not the red pulp part. They were yummy. I have never tried. My grandmother made pickled peaches that were yummy. My mother asked for the recipe so she could keep the tradition going. It read something to this effect: choose peaches that are not too free or too ripe! And went from there....she never tried it!

Love fried chicken...it has to be the best!
