Christmas Dinner Plate

What is on your Christmas dinner plate this year?

Are you traveling or cooking at home? Being with lots of family or just a couple of you?

I always love to see what everyone is eating on Christmas Day and Christmas Eve.

Do you celebrate on Christmas eve or Christmas Day?

We are seeing most of the family on Christmas Eve. This year is my ex's year with the boys on Christmas day so Christmas Day will just me and dh, which will be really nice I think.

Christmas Eve I have to work half day so we are leaving from work and going to get my boys and then heading to Shawnee to be with my daughter and the grandbabies. We are going out ot lunch, don't know where yet. Maybe Mexican food. That evening we will see my brothers and their familys and exchange gifts and see my dad and his wife.

Christmas day im cooking at home for me and dh.
I got a small turkey, making homemade stuffing, homemade green bean casserole, sage and bacon cauliflower bake, and cranberry sauce, salad of course.

Dessert im making homemade cheesecake and pumpkin pie.

What are you guys doing?

Just planned my menu for Christmas Eve yesterday:

Appetizers: Sharp cheese, olive medley, marinated mushrooms

Main: Honey-mustard glazed ham, mashed potatoes/gravy, holiday kale and cranberry salad, caramelized onion and spinach bites, cheese and garlic biscuits

Dessert: Pumpkin pie with pecan crust, peppermint chip chocolate truffles, molasses sugar cookies

The cookies and the biscuits are the only flour-y things. I wanted to make sweet potato/bacon biscuits from a Paleo recipe site, but I tested them yesterday and they were pretty horrible, so we will have flour for the day and enjoy it :-)

My parents, IL's, and my family all live close to each other. We always go out together for Christmas Eve dinner and then we take turns hosting Christmas Day. This year it's at my mom's house.

Christmas Eve (a DD for me), I will be having a crab dish that is basically just crab meat and butter. My mom is getting a steak and she wants to share meals. I told her that was fine, but I know I will not eat the steak. I will probably have a salad also.

Christmas Day-I can't eat the meat my mom is making, so I'm making a turkey tomorrow and bringing some with me. I will also have a spoonful of stuffing, a spoonful of green bean casserole, deviled eggs (which I am also making), and a piece of gluten free chocolate cake (again, I'm making). Looking forward to it!

Sounds like great menus!!
Amelia, I love your menu. I also eat pretty primal/paleo for the most part.

My pinterest board and facebook are covered in paleo lowcarb recipes...lol

I made some ginger molasses paleo cookies with sunflower seed flour and coconut flour and they turned out great!! I took them to work and even everyone there liked them.

I have also tried to make biscuits and they don't turn out great without real flour. I may make some macaroons.

Your holiday kale and cranberry salad sound wonderful. I tried so hard to find dried cranberries without sugar and I didn't have any luck.

Jenn, I decided to do 2 dd's in a row for Christmas eve and Christmas day. I knew not to even try to do a DD. I'm gonna have a good one today and then a good one Thursday!!!

I cant wait to eat some stuffing. I usually only have 1 bite or so but I think this year I will enjoy it and have a little more.

I have no plans. BF and I will probably wing it--possibly buy something to cook, or eat out. No idea. I do plan to visit with my mother on Christmas day and bring dessert, but we probably won't eat a meal there.

On Sat., Dec. 28, all of my family (well, most) will meet at my mother's house to celebrate and will each bring something.

I have a decent biscuit recipe I got from another site...it's a bit nutty (made with almond flour) and doesn't really taste like a biscuit, but it's not bad as far as a "bread" goes.

We've decided to take the kidlet to Yosemite and enjoy the snow for a bit, then our usual: Chukchansi Gold Casino. They have an awesome buffet with turkey, ham, prime rib and all the fixings.

Spending it at Mom's. I'll "move in" for a few days. I live 15 minutes from her, but I like to be able to drink a little (not that much I swear, but it's nice not to have to worry about driving home), and since I do most of the cooking, I can wake up and get going on that.

We have Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve and then have a leisurely Christmas day with sleeping in, lingering over unwrapping presents, watching Christmas movies, etc.

We have the old, tried and true menu every year:

Turkey
Sage dressing
Mashed Potatoes and gravy
Homemade cranberries
Three bean salad
Black Olives
Sweet potato casserole w/melted marshmallow topping
Mom's homemade apple cake w/whipped cream
Champagne and wine

Our DS will be with us and he eats plain so our menu revolves around him. Smoked turkey, baked sweet potatoes for us and carrots and broccoli for him and us, swiss chard from the garden, cornbread and fresh cranberry relish for us. DS won't eat dressing so I have just quit making it as plain cornbread is just as good with lots of butter. YUM.
We will be at home and have no plans to go anywhere although we should go visit my brother.

Fun post!

For Christmas Day it's our traditional rump end of a big ham baked in the electric roasting pan DH got for me 3 years ago on Christmas. I love that thing!

Home made corn bread with warm honey; Coleslaw; steamed veggies; mashed potatoes and gravy. Home made apple pie ala mode for dessert.

We usually have a house full and I do all the cooking. This year we went to southern California for Thanksgiving at DS's home. His little ones want to wake up in their own home for the first Christmas morning this year. They are 6 and 4 so very, very excited about Santa and showed us how they are going to make sure the glass is all the way open on the fire place so he will be sure to get in. So cute!

My DD lives closer, so they will be here with us.

For tomorrow, I decided I'm going to slow cook a big beef roast in the oven over night. I love doing this. Just set the oven to about 250 and let it cook all night. It gets so tender and there is lots of au jus.

We'll have a big green salad, corn and garlic bread but I'm only going to eat the meat and salad.

Then it's off to church for a Christmas Eve service.

I love this thread too. I love seeing what everyone is doing and how different or similar the menus are.

I'm excited about making Christmas dinner for just me and DH. It will be kinda strange it being the 2 of us but nice at the same time. This is our first christmas as a married couple so its really special.

I found a recipe for chocolate meringue cookies and cannot wait to try them. They will end up being about 10 calories per cookie. If they turn out well im thinking they will be an awesome treat for DD's!!!

Leo it turned out wonderful!!!

Ingredients
1 head of cauliflower
1 jar classico creamy alfredo sauce
1 package uncured Hormel bacon pieces
1T sage
1/4 cup almond meal
1/2 cup real shredded parmesan

It is 1 head of cauliflower, break it apart and put it in a casserole dish.
It has a recipe for homemade alfredo but I didn't want to mess with that so I used Classico Creamy alfredo sauce. I checked all of the ingredients in all of them and this one has the best ingredients.
Pour the jar over the cauliflower florets. Add about 1/4 cup of coconut milk or almond to the jar and shake it up to get all of the rest and pour over.
Add entire package of real bacon pieces.
Add 1T sage, salt and pepper
stir it all up until the cauliflower is coated.
Then sprinkle 1/4 cup of almond meal and sprinkle half cup of parmesan cheese.

Bake in 350 oven for 30 min.

This was totally yummy and creamy and easy and delicious!!!

Christmas Eve. I was by my self getting ready for the family for Christmas day. So I had no big meal that day.

Yesterday I had 10 over. We enjoyed our selves all day and evening.

Menu was Ham, mashed potatoes, meatballs, greenbean cass. creamed corn cass. baked beans, eggs, rice jello salad, homemade bread and I made whole wheat dinner rolls for the first time which they ate 2 doz. so it must have been a hit.

peppermint ice cream pie, chocolate fudge iced brownies, peanutbutter cake, lots of cookies, candies and fudges.

As you can see my family love to eat. I am the only one who has to watch what I eat.

After the meal we opened gifts about 2pm then enjoyed our gifts and each other until supper time which we only ate desserts and had coffee from my new big K coffee machine that my sister gave me. I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I HOPE YOU ALL HAD A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAVE A GREAT NEW YEAR.

We ended up having lunch at the casino instead of dinner. I had:

Prime rib w/creamy horseradish
Ham
Turkey
Cranberry sauce
Green beans Almondine
Mashed potatoes with gravy
Stuffing
Sweet potato soufflé
Rice pudding
Double chocolate cake

Then we went to Carl's Jr. for dinner.

Western bacon cheeseburger and onion rings.

It's safe to say that today's DD is welcome and necessary.
