My biggest fear is that I will lose all this weight and be stuck having to eat 900 calories (UD/DD averaged) for the rest of my life just to maintain. That's a 300 calorie down day and a 1500 calorie up day - permanently. Ugh
I do 5:2 to maintain so 5 days between 1,400-1,650 calories and 2 DDs 50-200 calories. I've been eating more with the holidays and I'm up higher than I would like. To maintain 121lb I have to be very vigilant. So at 115 you may have to adjust to eating less, but ultimately I have not found it to be that difficult. That being said I will go back to EOD in the new year with 1,550 and 200 EOD to get back to 121-123. If I felt my best at 128 I could eat more, but I feel better in the low 120's.

My goal is to get to 115 or maybe even 110 and then do some serious weightlifting to get a hardbody. I will have to increase my protein and will probably gain some weight when I do that, but it will be muscle. That's part of my plan so I won't be worried about it.

Eventually I want muscles so that I can eat legumes again. To do that I will need a metabolism that can burn more than 20 carbs a day.

For whatever it's worth for those that have fears and what not, your stomach will shrink considerably and you will be full much quicker with less food - the key is to stop eating at that point instead continuing, I sometimes do that ...don't ask me why I think it's deprivation mindset which I'm trying to get out of.

I also try eating late in the day as possible but on a UD that's usually 10am, sometimes until lunch. I also try to keep low carb/low throughout the day and then have whatever I want at dinner.

Now that I understand what it is, I like the idea of using 5:2 for maintenance. I can have a reasonable number of calories on the "up" days (still will be considerably more than I'm having now in the weight loss phase), interspersed with two dd fasts of maybe 300 - 350. If JUDDING seems too hard, in maintenance I might switch to a 5:2 plan. 5:2 would certainly work better with the aggressive fitness program I am planning to embark on. It's still quite a ways off.

It's genuinely useful to plan for success. You need to plan to preserve your lean body mass and, nearer your goal, you might want to look into reverse dieting, which is when you start gradually adding back kcals and increasing your food intake without weight gain.

As mentioned above, Dawn and Carly both use 5:2 during maintenance. Cindy too, iirc. I think a number of people cycle between it and ADF, depending on what the scale reports or how they're feeling.

That is exactly what I did last time I lost weight (65 pounds) and it worked really really well. But then I fell off the maintenance wagon.

This is a very useful thread. Thanks. When I was juddding two (?) years ago, there was no way I was willing (or able, I thought) to delay UD eating until afternoon. I still lost well, but with some resistance that I don't feel this time. It's reassuring to note how many of you begin eating later on UDs without dying or becoming hysterical. Thanks for your stories.

I try to wait as long as I can but I generally get hungry within one hour of waking up. This morning I worked out first thing and by the time I got into work and made my tea and stuff it was closer to 9:30 when I ate and I was pretty hungry...I was hungry before going to sleep as well.

Even after eating I was still hungry - I had a litre of water, cup of tea, 2 boiled eggs, English muffin with raw peanut butter and homemade jam. I was still hungry, had another litre of water and waited until 10:30ish before having some grapes but still hungry. Waited until 12:30 for lunch...3 small pieces of fish, brussel sprouts, carrots and beets. Finally feeling full, hopefully it stays that way until dinner but I brought an apple and some cheese incase I'm hungry. Will probably have another litre of water...maybe another tea or coffee. I really dislike being hungry all the time - UD or DD...argh!

I seldom feel actual hunger these days, well not for more than a minute or so. I don't know if is the Pterostilbene, Resveratrol, Sirtuins or old age... but I'll take it.

That doesn't mean that I never over eat. Hunger is not what triggers overeating as a rule I fear.

i am the odd man out. i find if i eat in the morning of an UD i don't need to eat again until dinner and i usually don't eat as much as usual. if i wait, i end up eating from the point i start (around 2) until dinner and then after.

weird how we are all different.

I agree. I rarely feel hungry and if I do it passes pretty quickly. If I overeat it is because it tasted delicious and I just wanted more- not because I was starving.

I think I am the same way. I have recently tried allocating most of my calories for dinner, and end up going overboard. I think I will try having a more substantial lunch next UD.
