anyone else notice this?

i have been really looking at the daily weigh ins for awhile now and have seen pretty much the same thing with pretty much everyone.

during a week, there is a 3 to 5 lb swing either way. ex. someone is 175, next day they are 174, than 176, 175, 176, than 175, 174 THAN 173. than it continues 173, 172, 174, 173, 175, 174 etc...

anyone else notice that for the better part of a week, TYPICALLY (i know there are woooshes and some bigger gains) we deal with the same 3/4 lbs before officially losing one, and than it starts again with the lower weight for a week, and than we lose a lb....

it's interesting actually. it seems to take a little bit for that one lb loss to show up each time and stick.

I wish it would stick. Maybe with adding JUDDD it will! I do see what you mean though, it takes a full weeks revolution to see a 1# loss. HOWEVER, 1 # a week would be 4-5 a month which is HUGE losses if you take the work involved and the strive and dedication into account.

Consider someone on the typical SAD diet, filled with junk and processed food and no account for calories and logging a 5 # loss for 30 days?

Yes

Having gained and lost several times in life, I can relate. It used to freak me out to see the little bounces up, but now I accept them as part of the cost of doing business.

On average, I saw the same new low three times before it stuck. During those three sightings, my weight bounced all over the place above the new low. And the day it stuck was always - might be after a DD, might be after an UD. It did not take me long to realize bounces were my body handling and fueling change. Once I got that, scale weight became an interesting way to monitor how my body reacted different foods. I found several 'eat this and bloat' foods that way.

This is one of the things that scared me about coming back to JUDDD. I hated the ups and downs before. I was very addicted to the scale before though and i have been banned from that so im hoping that helps. My husband literally threw it away. I was slightly obsessed and driving him crazy. It really was the best thing for me but I want to lose weight so bad that those swings would drive me crazy right now i think.
I would love to just be able to eat 1000 cals per day and just lose the weight fast but i tried that and it didnt work. All i did was starve and i didnt lose a darn thing.
I know i need to get to the doctor one of these days because i think there is something esle going on with me too but im really really hoping JUDDD helps me to lose some weight.

I actually LIKE my bounce now. I view the post-Up Day weights as my 'True' weight, so all my bounces are downward, like little previews of where I am going.

I tend to bounce anywhere from 2 - 5 pounds between DD and UD so it's tough to tell what's actually going on. I set up a Google spreadsheet where I post my daily weight and then keep a running 7 day average. As long as that average is going in the right direction, I feel pretty good about it.

I am in a bit of a stall right now but I think it's because I lost so quickly when I started. That was probably mostly water whoosh and now my body is getting back to equilibrium. The t-shirts I wear under my sweatshirts were pretty tight before JUDDD and are now comfortable, so I know progress is being made.

I am going to try to attach the weight loss graph. Ignore the red average line until it crosses the blue line. That's just an artifact from the early averaging.

yes, i read that thread after my first 2lb bounce that nearly brought me to my knees! i realized there was a bounce, i am just amazed at how consistent it is for everyone and how the numbers don't really fluctuate from person to person. well, the actual SCALE numbers do, but the amount of lbs per bounce per person are very consistent. kind of amazing, really.

Actually, I depended on upward bounces to ensure I really was eating enough on UDs (I stalled my weight loss several times by forgetting to eat enough). A two or three (or more) pound bounce was a very, very good thing.

On UD, I eat lowish-fat, higher carb. My DDs are full fast, so basically zero carb. I get a lot of water weight bounce.

This is why I only weigh after a DD. May still have some differential but it's usually showing losses for me when I only weigh the morning after a DD. Those are the numbers I watch. If I don't have a loss that tells me I'm either about to have TOM or I overdid it on my last UD. I know a lot of people weigh after up and down days, but it just made me crazy so I just hold off and weigh only after a good DD. This is just how I like to do it.

I had a very low DD (for me) on Monday and the scale only showed a 1 lb loss the next day, and I am still up from the week of Thanksgiving, so it was disheartening. BUT, today I weigh the same as yesterday (after a UD), so that DD did actually do something. I comprehend these bounces pretty well after a year, but still get upset when I see the higher ones lol.

i was doing the "weigh only after DD" thing for a bit as well. than i stopped as i was curious how all the food i was eating on UD's were affecting the numbers. for me, i need to know what the UD's do so i can utilize that bit of info during maintenance. wow.... look at me being all optimistic and looking ahead....

that's what i love about JUDDD. it is soooo customizeable!

Yes JUDDD is AWESOME! I feel like I'm getting back in the groove. What's going to be a challenge for me is having a DD while I'm super busy working. Most people do really well because it keeps them from thinking about food, but my job is so physically demanding I actually start getting the shakes and get woozy feeling. I really see a downward trend when I try to keep my DD low and am worried if I am eating throughout a busy day at work if I will see a loss. This is something I'm going to have to figure out. This has been one of my issues with staying on track with juddd.

The bounces are definitely just a part of JUDDD, and I've come to be fine with it. The bigger ones, of course, aren't fun. But you do start seeing patterns with yourself after awhile. Like when I don't bounce up after an UD, I'm pretty certain I'll see a nice loss after the next DD.

I know I'll go back to daily or weekly weighing in the next month or two. But I am really enjoying this not weighing during the holiday season. I'm not going off the rails or anything, but I do want to enjoy all the treats of the season and not feel guilty about it at all. I'll weigh right before Christmas, and then I may wait until a couple of weeks into January, or even end of January to weigh in so I don't have to deal with the damage done at Christmas dinner(s) and New Years Eve snack/drink-fest.

I always say just trust JUDDD. I think I've really internalized it now that I can just do it and not weigh for a month at a time. I don't have to "prove" to myself it's working anymore by weighing every day. You'd think I would have gotten there a lot sooner considering how much I've lost doing it.

As Frosty said, keeping a running average (or averaging every week, or two weeks, or whatever pattern appeals) can be much more motivating and reinforcing than worrying about daily weight.

And, for heaven's sake, take measurements! I still over the 5 1/2 weeks the scale bounced up and down the same two pounds....but I lost 11 inches. At the end of whatever that was, weight loss resumed it's happy two pounds a week (no whoosh). Wish I understood how that happened.

Yes, and it drives me nuts!! But, it does help to see my weight seems to do what everyone else's does. I tend to end up focusing on just mine and get frustrated. I hate the bounces, yet when I choose not to weigh daily the curiosity gets to me. But, I've never decided which to stick to: weighing daily, weekly, or just after a DD (I've done each). I have a weight tracker app (Target Weight - free) that helps to see the overall trend.

I don't learn from the bounces as some do - I get upset, even though I know it's a part of JUDDD. I think I'm seeing changes in the mirror. But I know there's been no difference in my clothes. If I could see some changes somewhere, the bounce wouldn't get to me like they do.

However, despite sounding majorly disgruntled, I'm enjoying being back on JUDDD. For now.

Oh, Vanilla! The scale is so useful but it is also vewwy, vewwy strange.

I wake up early - sometimes very early - most mornings. Just to see what happened, I used to weigh once an hour, like 4am, 5am, 6am, 7am.

What usually happened was I lost two or three pounds between 4am and 7am most mornings. Magic? The 4am bounce might be 5 pounds, but the 7am bounce was 2. (And, no I did not spend those hours in non-stop elimination ).

I assume it must be magic.

Anyway, I used 7am as my 'official' weigh in time.

JUDDD cares about calories. JUDDD does not care what you eat. Your body probably does.

That is so strange Nancy! I had something very similar. I would weigh as soon as I got up and after "going". Then I'd weigh again an hour or two later and consistently be a pound or two lighter. What's with that?

I drink a LOT of water and a couple of cups of coffee in the morning. I always weigh first thing, then take my shower, have my water and coffee, and then refuse to get on the scale again. I'm askeered the clothes and liquids will have me 5 pounds heavier in the half hour it takes me to get ready.

I pee all darn day. Have to walk out of meetings
Even meetings I'm running. I think it's some of the medications I take at bedtime
