Having a really hard time getting back into it

I hate feeling like I'm whining but I feel totally helpless right now. Every day I wake up feeling like "ok, this time is going to be a successful DD. I'm gonna do this!!". I'm good up until it gets close to time to get off work (between 9 and 9:30) then I start to lose my will. EVERY single night! I have trained myself to not stop at fast food restaurants by just avoiding that route on my way home and telling myself that I am not going to eat anything when I get home, just drink some water or hot tea. I was doing good on Friday...even had myself talked out of my weekly Pizza King visit..then I get home and find that my dd got me a box of chocolates for my birthday. I cannot control myself around chocolate. I just can't. I ate the whole dang box. I don't want junk food in the house PERIOD. I have given up trying to get DH on any type of eating plan but I'm able to stay out of his ice cream luckily. I feel so helpless and worthless right now. I don't know what to do. I want to get back on plan so bad. Every day I make out a menu for myself and everyday I blow it. I just want to be able to get back into rotations and kick my dang sugar cravings once and for all. I did it before I know I can do it again but I am having a heck of a time doing so. So angry and frustrated right now!!

hang in there! You can do it! But it sure will help keeping any treats out of the house. If you want it, though, you can do it no matter what. Just grab onto that determination.

I know that feeling very well... For some of us sugar really creates such massive cravings. I was just off plan for two weeks and had SUCH a hard time getting back on. i did the same thing you described for several days. Have you thought about trying a few days of regular low carb before getting back to JUDDD? Maybe it'll help with the cravings.

I have done regular low carb, and been fairly successful at sticking with it at least, but I miss that post down day comfortably empty feeling.

I feel your pain. That's why I quit posting because it became a perpetual ok "I'm back" post and just kept on not having a true dd. Anyway I am just working on one dd. And that is tomorrow. And if I get the urge to eat past my allotted calories then the answer just has to be"no". I'll have it tomorrow. Hope that helps. It's what I'm going with anyhow. Weekends kill me so I have got to keep busy. Having Sunday and Friday down days are also hard for me. Hang in there. I'll be on my 1st dd tomorrow. We can do it. I need a juddd drill Sgt to keep me in check or something so when I want to wimp out. Lol

Are you not eating anything on your DD's? Maybe having a little snack before you leave work or on the way home (nuts, lc veggies, ect)?

First of all, ...belated! That was really sweet of your DD. I'm sure she didn't know what that thoughtful gift would set off.

Second, . I'm so sorry you're feeling so bad. Those feelings don't help when you're trying to get back on track. And we've all been in that place. You want it so bad, but you're feeling really low about yourself, and that keeps you from building up the determination to stick with it, and on and on and on.

I think the "just one day" mentality is really helpful. Try to think only about getting through today. Or even getting through the next few hours. Come here as often as you can for support. No one understands what I'm going through like this group does. Someone always has a suggestion, or a shoulder to cry on. Just even hearing that others have or are going through the same thing always makes me feel a little better.

You are so worth this, Demonica! You can do it!

oh how i have felt like this!!! it is so very hard to withstand the temptation, especially when it is staring you in the face wrapped in a pretty bow.

you can do this today. you CAN. there are many of us on DD's and we are right there with you. turning down yummy food, drinking tons of water and broth, telling ourselves - tomorrow WE EAT! we are here with you. we are hungry with you. we can do it.

D ~ You can totally do this. You've done it before, and you know it works. Maybe you can try for a "lower calorie" day instead of a true DD. Go for 1000 calories and see how you do. You can gradually lower that as you're feeling comfortable, and maybe it won't be such an overwhelming feeling.

We have all been there...and probably will be faced with similar 'events' again.
Chocolate used to do that for me...but now since focusing on giving my body good fuel...because that is why we are supposed to eat...good fuel to make our engines 'excellent machines'!

My Loving Spouse insists on buying chips and popping corn....even bought himself one of those stand alone/has wheels/'fills the house with that yum smell' popcorn machines!!! He has been cutting back on his bread...but if it wasn't popcorn, it would be something else!!

Shed many tears over self defeating behavior! Just pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and start again...NOW!!! Don't wait till tomorrow! It isn't about not being able to "have" everything that everybody else has...it is about making your body the best that it can be...giving it EXCELLENT fuel that it needs to be able to do the GREAT stuff that you want to do.


I agree with Rosebud...re: Low Carb to kick the cravings to the curb, initially.
Maybe even a day of 'fat-fast' ...
Whichever you choose...just remember you are choosing for an EXCELLENT YOU...no one else can do that for you!
Be gentle to yourself, look into the mirror...let her know that she is worthy...she deserves the best..

I had to rein in the sugar on my UD's and I am in maintenance. All of the craft shows I have been doing are loaded with goodies. Had to jump on Atkins 72 for a couple of weeks for my UD's to get rid of the desire for sugar. On DD's I skip breakfast but have a HB patty sometime mid day and that will be all of my calories for the day. I am now able to have a sweet potato for dinner on UD's BUT NO.MORE.SUGAR.PERIOD. I cannot control it so I do not allow myself to eat just that one little bite. IF I have anything with sugar it has to be late at night so I can't sabotage myself because I will be asleep and can't yield to temptation.
It isn't easy either but since it is winter I don't crave ice cream so I have that part under control.
You might want to try protein and fat only DD's to see how that goes for you. Everyone is different but I am with you on the sugar problem.

Oh, man. Re-starting a diet is so difficult. A day or two in, it is too easy to think "screw it, I'll indulge today and restart tomorrow". And then do it all again the next day.

Wash, rinse, repeat.

I was perpetually restarting dieting for more than the last two years. I regained everything I had lost and then added 11 more pounds for good measure.

Fortunately, I'm a month in now so have a little momentum.

Good luck. It looks like you have had some excellent advice so far.

A lot of us get here because of varying stages of metabolic syndrome. And for many of us, over time, JUDDD really harnesses that carb/sugar reaction. Which allows us to eat more carbs, more sugars, more chocolates without having a blood glucose spike or unexpected cravings.

But, as several of us have noticed, if we don't keep DDs low enough (and lose all of our lovely SIRTs) , or party too long without true DDs (and lose all of our lovely SIRTs) then the cravings and the bg spikes return.

Take a deep breath. Eating a whole box of chocolates is not all that impressive...I can top that one easily.

Having what I believe LCers call 'The Hunger' (carb hunger) is very, very unpleasant (she understated).

So, dial the carbs back a few notches. Aim for a 1000 calorie DD or two (start rebuilding your SIRTs , slow down the carb reaction). Then start taking them down again.

It will be alright. You just have to retrain your body. And you can do that you really can. A mis-step does not mean you have fallen on your face...it just means you are staggering around while you regain your balance. That happens to many of us.

I hear you, too. I've been back numerous times. Love JUDDD, but I do get frustrated that my losses are slow and sometimes DDs do me in. I don't remember if you're in the thread below, but it actually helped me to come back and give JUDDD another go 'round. I always felt like such a failure if a good DD turned into a MD or even an "oh what the heck, I ain't losing anyway!" day! It helped to see others can struggle just like I do.

I eat lower carb and it really helps with the hungries on a DD. I choose fats over proteins as they hold me better.

Hang in there and read - or re-read - this thread. Hope it helps.

Same here. The whole last 6 months were one continous restart... and restart... and restart...
For example: I've done really well in the beginning of November and felt fine , but then I lay down with the flu and.... well... I blew it again.

But I'm back - with another restart - and I know we can do it!!

Reading here is such a huge motivation and helps a lot! And even if a DownDay is not "perfect", there's still no need to throw in the towel. Like KeirasMom said, it may not be a perfect DownDay, but sometimes a low-calorie-day must be enough. And hey, it's December, so forgive yourself.

LOVE, love all these caring, helpful responses. Demonica, girl you are not alone!! As you have learned from reading some others' responses, there's a lot of us struggling. I just recently posted that I'm having a very hard time staying on track. It's been the story of my life every since getting into the 170s (come to think of it, probably for each "decade"). I truly, truly envy those with completely forward thinking who rush straight to goal without all these hurdles. However, I have accepted that I will take a more circuitous route.

We can do this together. I promise. Let's hold hands and walk together!

You are definitely not alone. I am restarting JUDDD too. I have done it before and know it works but I have figured out i have to eat lower carb. I cant do like some and eat what i want every other day. Maybe one day i will be able too but not right now.
The last year and a half i have gained about 15 lbs. I lost over 100 lbs at one time about 9 yrs ago and have kept it off doing it low carb. I started gaining weight when i changed jobs and turning 40 didnt help i dont think. But i started playing with my woe. Doing things i shouldnt have. Trying to be able to eat more carbs, good carbs, but still more carbs. Didnt work. I still gained even keeping my calories really low. I went back to eating really low carb and now that isnt working either.
I was scared to go back to JUDDD. The DD's scared me. But I was at my wits end. I didnt know what else to do or what else to try. So here i am. 3 DD's down. I dont know if i have lost anything yet. I'm not weighing yet. We will see. I will know when my clothes feel better.
You can do this. The DD's havent been near as bad as i thought they might be. Keep them lower carb and more protein and see if that helps.
I'm glad to be back. This group of people is amazing!!!

I was a JUDDD re-tread at the beginning of 2013. I'd shed my excess baggage at an agonisingly slow rate and got down to approx. 140lbs with JUDDD then stuck. And life happened and I gained some lbs (but not as many as I'd lost).

I knew JUDDD worked (look at the number of success stories here) so when life had evened out after a year, I restarted JUDDD at the start of 2013. After a couple of bumps, I achieved my target of 130lbs in late May/early June.

Since then, I've been maintaining 124-127lbs. I've gradually increased the amount that I'm eating because I was eating such small quantities I was a little concerned about how I was going to maintain my weight in the future (when I'm older) if I needed to eat so little to maintain. However, I'm still maintaining and I'm fairly active.

And, ditto, for the final line of the quotation. I've missed people here

Does it help to know that during the week before my great first week on JUDDD, I ate--no, demolished--nearly a whole box of chocs that someone had brought as a hostess present?

I have the last few pieces sitting in my desk right here as I type. You've reminded me to throw them out, which is what I'm going to do right now.

You can do it (and you'll feel so great if you do).

The chocolate covered cherries, my hubby likes them.
I'm known to eat a whole tray-shelf in one day
I was younger then and stupid.
Now I don't touch them, well not today anyway
