question for experienced JUDDDer's

i am truly at a loss. i am not complaining, but truly.... this makes no sense.

i, like many of us, had 4 days of complete gluttony. i mean balls to the walls, pie for breakfast lunch and dinner kind of days. i went into this feeding frenzy weighing 129.1 and came out of it on the other side weighing 129.8. after one DD, i weigh an all time low of 128.0. (not one stitch of exercise, either.)

HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN? is it possible that by eating so much so many days in a row i tricked my body or something? could it be my month and a half of JUDDDing has sped up my metabolism?i don't see how that latter can be true, as i gain more than that on a regular UD - usually 2 lbs. how is it, after complete not caring, i only gained a half pound?

once again not complaining and i truly hope this isn't annoying to people. i have been on that side of the fence......oh me! oh my! why i am losing weight! oh goodness me!....:annoyed:. i honestly wouldn't be posting this, except i really feel it makes absolutely no sense at all.

Just gotta love JUDDD!

Goner 12-03-2013 08:06 AM

It is strange, isn't it? I don't have the answer, but having dieted most of my life - I do know that what works one time, doesn't necessarily work the next time. :annoyed: I'm not sure there is a definitive answer - but enjoy the ride as long as it lasts! :)

ouizoid 12-03-2013 08:09 AM

I find a 4-5 day delay for either weight gain or loss. I too am feeling like, wow, how did I get away with that? Sadly I know that I didn't and that it is going to show up in a day or so. In the meantime, DD's will help blunt the pain :)

shirlc 12-03-2013 08:45 AM

I sure wish I could say I had that experience! Looking at my calendar the last month or so, after one UUAD (Halloween), I was up 4.5 lbs.!!! After Thanksgiving, I was up 3 lbs. the next day. I promised myself in November, I would weigh myself every day, whereas in the past, I have avoided the scale when I knew it was going to be really bad. On the other hand, I lost 3 and 3.5 lbs. on a couple of my DDs.

Carbs are still a very big issue with me. Once I start eating refined sugar, it's like I can't stop. And I don't even like the stuff that much. True carb addict here.:o

I still say this WOE works better than anything else I've ever done...I just need to get back to following it better!

LoCarbGal 12-03-2013 11:15 AM

I think sometimes you can shock your metabolism by eating more. Maybe that happened for you. I hope so! I've had it work for me, but it doesn't always work that way. Other times, I just gain.

LiLi914 12-03-2013 11:29 AM

Sometimes your metabolism needs the shock. It gets to accustomed to EOD and a little change is good for the body at times.

Babsbabs 12-03-2013 11:50 AM

If I am remembering correctly that sort of thing happened a lot to me last December. There were all these UUAD's followed by lots of rotations being switched around. It had looked like a train wreck of of diet month but in the end it was fine and I think I even lost a couple pounds that month. It seemed to be the same for quite a few others posting then too, no idea how I didn't gain. :dunno: JUDDD magic covers it for me.:)

FrostyBeav 12-03-2013 12:23 PM

I'm not an experienced JUDDDer as I only started JUDDD on 11/12 last month. I had the same experience as the OP though. I did a (full fast) DD on the Monday before Thanksgiving. Then, on Tuesday night, we went to the in-laws' for a five day stay. During that time, I ate pretty much what I wanted, though I wouldn't say it was a full on binge or anything - just bad choices (ice cream every night, for example).

I fully expected to have put back all of the weight that I had lost since I started but found that when I got home, I weighed the same as when I left. Then I did a full fast DD yesterday and weighed right at 2.2 lbs less than I did a week ago after my last DD.

There is definitely some kind of magic here.

mafiamom 12-03-2013 12:25 PM

i am in agreement with the magic thing. there is no other explanation. i won't be expecting that kind of result again, but i am grateful it!!

Sirtain 12-03-2013 12:49 PM

Losing after a feast is the best. And you may be surprised. This has happened to me, I think, three times, maybe four.

gotsomeold 12-03-2013 01:03 PM

According to Dr J's first book, once SIRT1 is activated in your body it takes on average 14 days to be completely depleted. Which :hyst: does not mean everyone gets a get-outa-jail-free card with a 14 day time stamp. But it does mean a great many of us are pleasantly surprised/downright shocked to see the scale remain steady or even drop after eating frenzies.

What that does mean (also) is, if you know an eating frenzy is coming do not - repeat DO NOT - decide well I'm gonna overeat next week anyway, might as well have a MD (or two UDs) instead of a bunch of DDs. EAT YOUR NORMAL DDs (or even drop the calories) before a feast. MDs and unneeded UDs stop safe levels of SIRT1 activation and put you into your more-or-less 14 days before you need to go there.

Did that make sense?

Also, when you have an extended period of fun-fun-fun eating, reactivate your SIRTs whenever you can. Skip breakfast (extend last night's sleeping fast), have a small salad for lunch, if your body works that way stay LC whenever you can...restoke your SIRT supply - throw a few logs on the SIRT fire so to speak.

Did that make sense?

Anyway, it does not work for everyone. But it works for a lot of people. And it sure got me through a lot of looong and luscious vaycays...I just realized these days, knowing how to eat-eat-eat, I actually expect to return from a cruise weighing within 1/2 pound of my starting weight. Gosh. I never thought of it way before. Golly.

:hyst: Anyone want to hear my 'don't overdo SIRT activation' lecture? :hyst:

mafiamom 12-03-2013 01:06 PM

great advice!!! it's funny because the week leading up to thanksgiving i went way low on DD's to "gear up" for the frenzy.

love the idea of sleeping late and skipping breakfast, etc. i will utilize this for Christmas.

you can lecture me on SIRT activation, anytime ;)

Goner 12-03-2013 01:27 PM

I'm glad to see you posting Nancy, as I had read many of your old posts and now it's nice to again have your wisdom. You explained it very well - thanks. I'll go with the magic that we make happen with JUDDD!

gotsomeold 12-03-2013 03:18 PM

Goner, it feels good to be back!

Partially because it means my life may finally be slowing down. Partially because I believe in JUDDD Magic much like my younger self believed in Tinkerbell. Mostly because I truly love everyone on this forum and all my JUDDD BUDDDs everywhere.

That's been my experience too. If I didn't show a gain immediately, I knew it would show up in a day or two. Keep praying you won't have to pay for it lol.:aprayer:

mafiamom 12-03-2013 07:16 PM

well i was wondering about that. seems like thursday's debauchery at least would have shown up by now, right? if i go from 128, which is what i was this morning, to 135, i will know without a doubt my bad deeds have caught me!!!

Librarygirl 12-03-2013 07:24 PM

I doubt seriously you would go all the way back up to 135, but maybe will take a little longer to keep losing. But maybe not! You seem to have found the magic. :)

mafiamom 12-03-2013 07:41 PM

a one pound loss in a whole month... ain't nothing magic about that LOL!!! but i shall keep on JUDDDing away!!

Librarygirl 12-03-2013 07:44 PM

How about a 4-5 lb gain?! It's the first time I've gained since I've started JUDDDing. I've had many months that I only lost one or two lbs, but now that seems pretty good lol.

Pick me! Pick me!!!:love: I'm so glad you're back!!!!!! Sure have missed you & your wise words girl!!! Glad to hear you're doing well, too!!!:heart:

mafia, good for you girl!!! I've had vacas where I've done really well, so similar in a way to what you're describing. I pretty much did what Nancy suggested above. In fact, I just came off a 2nd (totally unplanned!) UD where I had fasted all day (it was, afterall, supposed to be my DD!) and ended up in my favorite Italian restaurant. Ahem. Scale was just fine & dandy. :) I love Juddd!

BTW, you were due for a nice Juddd perk. I know you've been frustrated with the scale since starting. You're doing great, just keep it up!

I'd call a pound loss, in the month containing Thanksgiving, a victory. :high5:

now THAT, my friend, is a VERY good point! :shake:

i'll take it.

Kissa 12-04-2013 12:00 PM

Yup!

FrostyBeav 12-05-2013 07:30 AM

Since several people have mentioned getting bounces several days after a feast day (or three), I have been watching to see if that happens with me this time. I had a bounce up after my Tuesday UD, of course, but I was down another .2 lbs following yesterday's DD (from my last DD weight). So far, so good.

mafiamom 12-05-2013 12:47 PM

i am at an all time low. i am cautiously optimistic.....

Kissa 12-05-2013 05:00 PM

The same for me. I will bounce several days LATER and then it is so mach harder to get it back down again. Looks like I would eventually learn.

FrostyBeav 12-05-2013 08:24 PM

It seems like most of the people that gained big over the holiday were people doing low carb that ate carbs for Thanksgiving. Those big gains should be mostly water weight and should come off quickly once they go back on plan. When I was doing VLC, I could gain 7-8 lbs in one day if I went off plan. It was discouraging but usually came off quickly.
