Why you love down days!

Total newbie here, looking for reinforcement to get through the first two/four weeks...after which I'm looking for those hormones to really kick in...

I'd love to hear about your favorite up sides of the down days, if you will. I'll start (from my massive 1-day experience!):

1. Didn't feel that hungry until dinnertime and then some tea/water took care of it;
2. Had lots of free time;
3. Felt more clearheaded and lighter right away;
4. Woke up with my plantar fasciitis better already--after 1 day! (strictly speaking this was AFTER the DD but before eating, so I'm going with it...)
5. Felt emotionally positive to be doing something good for myself;
6. Could focus on talking with my kids at dinner rather than worrying about what I was eating/wasn't going to eat/shouldn't eat but was going to anyway.

Anyone else?

I don't love DDs either, but they're not hard. One thing I like is that I've found what works for me and I rarely have to think about food choices on DDs. The simplicity of having the same foods and feeling satisfied with them really helps.

The other great thing about a DD? The following day is an UD!!

I DO love Down Days. (Most of the time.) After getting used to it, I find it very relaxing to not have food as an option. It frees me up for other things. And I seem to have a different kind of energy on Down Days.

i actually really like DD's. it's a weird kind of relief to know that i just can't eat, so i don't even worry about it. UD's are great, but i am constantly watching and thinking and hoping and praying. DD's are zen for me

fun inquiry

I'm with you on your #2 and #5!
Love the empty feeling so much better than the stuffed feeling, like I had for Thanksgiving and post A few days. Terrible bubble and squeaks. Figured out it was the dressing, one of my favorite eats of the holidays.

Some days I love them - others I loathe them - but generally they're easy! No idea why, I just enjoy the fact that I'm not thinking about what goodies are worthwhile fitting in to my UD calories!

I do not love a DD either - but love the after effects of them... if that makes sense.

I agree not thinking about food or what to eat is freeing... and I do like the good feeling when I get through a hungry one without giving in to more calories.

I can't say that I love DDs, but I do love what they do for me:

*that great, empty but not hungry feeling
*my stomach gets nice and flat on DDs
*lots of DD energy
*knowing tomorrow I get to eat good stuff
*saving lots of grocery money
*that I've learned to really focus on what I'm eating and fully enjoy those low calorie foods I'm allowed
*clearer skin
*less allergies
*weight loss!!!

One thing I've noticed is how much better food tastes. And I really only want to eat foods that I enjoy. Why waste my calories on anything else? Hope that makes sense.

That make sense to me.
I take more time to eat and really taste my food on DD's.

It is a love/hate relationship. I wish I didn't have to do them, but they will help me in the long run.

I like not having to cook. I like cooking, but I enjoy it much more when I don’t have to do it every day. I enjoy eating small amounts of something simple.

By the end of it I’m looking forward to the up day. I enjoy both kinds of day.

It took me a long time to really appreciate DDs, but I have never claimed to love them. I have always enjoyed the high that comes sometimes from fasting, and I get really good feelings of well-being sometimes too. I also like running errands on my lunch hour on my DDs and it's nice not having to worry about making time to eat. But, for the most part I look forward to the next day--UD.

I also like not having to cook or do any food prep on those days. I've basically told DH that on DDs he is responsible for making something for him and MIL or they can eat leftovers!

I usually pick something up for bf that he can eat right away, or something already cooked that he can heat up (like ready-to-eat ribs and a can of baked beans). It's kind of a treat for him too, because he can eat things that I don't really like.

I can't even leave bf to heat up his food in the microwave lol. I just opened the microwave and it was spattered with barbeque sauce. I have to stand on a chair to really reach the inside, plus it was stuck on. Today is not actually a DD, but I had such a big lunch, I wasn't hungry and didn't cook dinner.

Love a DD.

More energy
Calmer
No planning food all day
After all this time I know exactly what I can order if I am at a coffee shop
The knowledge that I am doing my body a favour.

I love the term 'Healing' day. Can't remember now who coined that, but it is how I feel.

I love that, Cindy--a healing day.

It is so true, too, because after just 2 dds (admittedly with very low carb eating in between) my plantar fasciitis is almost unnoticeable. Talk about a cure for inflammation!

I have to add to my list--
*Because after a dd, food on an up day is SO delicious and satisfying...it tastes better.
*And the anticipation of eating makes it more significant somehow. I am paying attention to nourishing my body during these highly-anticipated meals (whereas before I ate without noticing it, all too often).
*And, as has been mentioned, I choose higher quality foods for up days--since you are eating much less frequently, you don't want to waste any mealtimes on junk. This especially comes from waiting until lunchtime to eat on my up day--by the time you fast for 40 hours, that food had better be good!

I agree with the dishes!

Another thing I like, is sitting and talking with my daughter while she is eating, and I am not. It lets me focus on her. (Of course, I don't know if SHE likes this as much. But she hasn't run away yet!)

This is exactly where I am right now, too. It's a relief to know that A) I don't have to even think about food and B) I can eat what I want the next day.

My only downside to DDs so far is I have trouble falling asleep on those days. It's not because I'm hungry or anything; I'm just not tired.

Now that it's headed into evening, I had another thought.
I love DD evenings. Because by now, I can say it's almost over! I feel in control and successful.
Another 1.75 oz.has melted away! (yes, that's the math ..... for me ).
If I don't actually see those oz. gone when I weigh in the morning, I know a woosh will come soon

And there's a whole UD ahead of me

This is my first down day. It wasnt as bad as I imagined it to be. I have never eaten so few calories unless it was forced on me for medical tests.

But its almost over and I still have food I can eat and I am thinking "I can do this", "I am so proud of me". I am just so ecstatic. I ate less than 429 cals today and I did not die. LOL

I hope my 2nd DD will go as well or better.
