JUDDD Uplift

JUDDD Gratitude

Both of these too hackneyed? The first one came to mind for me because although there are standardised depression inventories etc. one of the more useful/meaningful inventories that works for a number of people with chronic health/life issues is the

Hassles and Uplifts Scale

It's helpful because it can highlight the positive aspect of some experiences and acknowledge that they have downsides too (it's a hassle to exercise when you're overweight, tired and stressed but there may be an uplift that accompanies it). In addition to 'Daily Hassles and Uplifts' there is a lot of fairly decent research that blends that into Major Life Events as well.

Hassles/Uplift research is quite clear-eyed that a few uplifts do not cancel out many daily hassles (depending on what they are) but it can be a way of feeling gratitude for some improvements. It also allows people to identify the hassles that are draining them or have a disproportionate impact and decide whether they can be modified by using what is already available to you (rather than fantasising you can do something when you have free time that somehow never happens).

Too long already

Iíve been plotting a weekly weigh-in on a graph. Today was my last one for this year ó we wonít be at home for any more Tuesdays. There have been times when it went three or four weeks without a downward movement, but overall, itís been amazingly linear.

Yay! That's what we're talking about!

One of the funny things that has happened to me with JUDDD is that since I will lose weight in chunks, I can be creeping up on a much-anticipated number for a while, then suddenly fly by it. I hardly got to be in the 180s. I had been looking forward to them for so long, and then, boom! Seems like an eyeblink and I was in the 170s, with not much chance to enjoy the 180s. (Not to worry, the 170s were just as delightful!)

So, enjoy your 198, but don't be surprised if you don't get to enjoy it for long!

Ailuros, fantastic chart! I love the visuals of weight loss. Sometimes, it takes a long time for us to see the hnages in our body, either because they are slight, we get used to them, or our body-image is just too distorted to even see them.

But charts! I LOVE charts. There it is, in black and white (or blue and red) and you can SEE it.

Big smiles for you.

Thanks. I didn't get to enjoy it very long. I had a huge bounce up the next day (almost six pounds!) and then didn't bounce all the way back down after yesterday's DD (200 this morning). However, I keep a running seven day average of my weight and it is at a new low of 201 lbs, which puts me right at a 10 pound loss after a little over a month of JUDDD. That works for me.

This next week will probably throw a kink into the works but I know once I get through the holidays, I can break through that barrier again, hopefully for good this time.

Here's my updated running average. The red line is the average. As long as it keeps moving downward, I'm good.

I've been super busy lately and haven't been on-line much.

I had a DD the Thursday before Christmas and weighed 199 lbs the next morning. Then I had three UDs in a row as we were at my parents' for an early Christmas celebration. I then did a DD the Monday before Christmas and weighed 201.2 the next morning. Up a little but not too bad.

Then the Christmas celebrating hit in earnest. I ate a metric ton of junk Christmas Eve and Christmas day (cheese and crackers, chips, candy, fudge, my wife's amazing peanut brittle, etc). Then my wife's parents and sister came up Saturday and Sunday and we feasted again.

I tried to do DDs both Thursday and Friday after Christmas but wasn't able to. After the junk, my body was screaming for real food so I did a couple of "no junk MDs" those days.

I did a full fast DD yesterday and, despite eating poorly and not JUDDDing for a week, I weighed 201.2 this morning, so gained zero weight from Christmas Eve to New Year's Eve. I am pretty pleased.

Today and tomorrow will be UDs (probably UUADs) though less "junky" as most of that stuff is gone. I plan on a DD Thursday and then we will be on the road for a couple of days. I hope to get back to EOD DD starting Sunday. I think the extra weight will fall off quickly and I'll get back down under 200 lbs again.

Yup. I'm trying to not abuse it though. However, I've tried to strictly diet through the holidays before and the rebound from that was not pretty at all. Having a little leeway makes this much more sustainable.

This is great to read Frosty, we all try to be sensible but at this time of the year is so good to know that a few great DDs will fix most gains.
