It was in the 70s here today. Strange indeed.

Home and not much interested in eating again. I really dislike big lunches. They disrupt my schedule.

I had no idea you could make vanilla! I mean, of course you can, but it never occurred to me to do it or find out about it. I'm totally going to do that!

I make an amazing limoncello (lemon flavored liqueur) with the lemons from my tree. It's a Lisbon lemon tree, and has the thorns from hell. I'm not kidding you, some of them are 3 inches long and harvesting the darn thing is taking your life in your hands. I've learned to deal with it, because them lemons are AMAZING. The flavor is so intense and way better than the ones I buy at the store. I made limoncello gifts one year. It seems you either love the stuff, or can't stand it. I LOVE IT!

Yummmm, LCG!! I've been wanting to try some Limoncello. Do you drink it by itself, or use it in mixed drinks?

Soren,
Where are you making entry into the US?

I LOVE limoncello but you have to get the right stuff. There is a beautiful brand from Italy that thankfully the duty free store by our house carries. Go to Canada, turn right around, hit Duty Free and come home. If only they weren't so picky about actually having to leave the country in order to shop duty free! Although sometimes I will go get a Tim Horton's coffee as they're delicious!

They should have grilled kebabs. They also serve a lot of cucumbers, tomatoes and fruit....at least that is what we get in Turkey. We've also had nicely grilled fish.

Have fun!

I've not had Turkish, though I'd expect Mediterranean meets Middle Eastern. Love all that stuff! Please report back!

Carol- I think limoncello is crazy strong, when I had it in Sicily, but I liked it, and would make it too if I had your tree! Dh would have to pick though. I got attacked by something just in my crabapple this fall took a couple days to go away.

Carly? We miss you already girlie!

Jen- I'm in Toronto so I go through at Pearson airport. Talked to the lawyers today, they said give 4hrs to the activity. My flight is at 8:30 am, and customs only opens at 4 or 4:30am.

I can't believe I'll be in a cab at 4 am. kill me. #firstworldproblems for sure.

Got some errands done though, like refill meds for Haka. He's on thyroid pills (doesn't yet register on the tests, and we're 2 months in to therapy...) and a general pain med, 1x a day. Sucks getting old eh?
Just checked the paw- about the same as yesterday. No news is good news? Let's hope it stays dry again- you all should buy stock in bitter apple spray.

Cindy- I hate anything that disrupts my schedule. Even a good meal.

I love hearing about everyone's holiday traditions! I am desperately trying to find a nice gift for my Dad. He is diabetic so many food ideas are out and his hobby was fishing which he can't do anymore. Any ideas are welcome!

I think I found it right here in town, but haven't purchased yet. The brand I thought might be good starts with a P. What's the brand you're thinking of? I doubt it would hurt to mention, as Netrition doesn't sell alcohol.

So tired today. Was up late watching a friend's fiance's restaurant being featured on Food Network last night. Was one of those restaurant makeover shows. The food does look amazing. Guess i'll have to make a trip out to Long Island soon to visit them & have the yummy food.

Such a dreary day in NYC. Oddly warm, but rainy & windy It's going to drop in temperature a bit. I don't care what temp it is, i just don't like the rain. Maybe I was a dog in another life

LOL, not one of my dogs! They love to go outside, get as wet as possible and then come get all up in my business so I spend the entire day (or night) stinking of wet dog! But I love my Goldens so all things are forgiven!

We head out to Universal Studios today for our work trip. I blogged about my food expectations and JUDDD in my journal but this thread is for fun! We work really hard all year long and this weekend is for play time! Excited, although I'd rather go to Disney again. (First world problems...again!) Oh well, we're taking the monkey back to DL in February...for the 3rd trip this "year" (April, Oct and now Feb). Someone is spoiled - ME!!!! The 3 year old is merely the excuse!!!

We're going to Disneyland on the 21st and Universal Studios on the 22nd (we may flip those) for the rugrat's 9th birthday! The 22nd is her actual birthday, and she likes spending it with Mickey. Fun! Enjoy your trip.

They do have it here at one of the liquor stores. It's 19.99 for 1/5. Is that pricey or about normal for that brand? I think I'll have to get some tomorrow on my UD.

IDK how I got "egg nog" from limoncello, but now I want some of this:

December = eggnog & peppermint chocolate. Hm - wonder if I can make a hack out of that?

I have bought two different kinds of eggnog lately that are both nasty. I don't know why I haven't bought the traditional kind, which is the best tasting to me. The Silk brand is horrible and tastes like water flavored with a dash of skim milk and eggnog flavoring.

We're not huge drinkers. Don't know why, because I love the idea of a martini glass in hand, olives, canapés, black dress. Never happens. (More like skis, wood fire, snow pants, and chili here.)
Having said that, we've just committed to doing Cindy's (Kissa's) Brandy Alexanders this holiday. She posted a photo on FB, and someone added the recipe. They look festive, elegant, and smooth.
Ho ho ho. Will report back.

With the skis, wood fire, snow pants and chili, I'd absolutely be doing some hot buttered rum, or hot mulled wine.

I saw the photo of the Brandy Alexanders on FB, but I didn't look closely enough to see that there was a recipe. I will need to revisit that! Cindy's an enabler!

I discovered a few years ago Hood makes flavored egg nog. I've had Pumpkin Spice & Sugar Cookie. Mmmm

Then I discovered only this year that McD's makes egg nog milkshake. I do believe I can convince DBF to have one tomorrow. We were fiending at Thanksgiving for one!

omg, egg nog milkshake!

I might try the brandy alexander, if everyone else is too!

Kristin, you make the hobbit hole sound like a total dream getaway-- cozy, fire, chili... you can ski, I'll tend the fire and do quality testing on the chili, k?

we just did Disneyworld, so I'm good for 5yrs. I like to let them build new stuff in between visits. And we don't even have kids to use as an excuse!

Haka was licking his sock when I got to him today, but it wasn't a total loss. I think there's some healing tissue going on, incrementally creeping across the wound. Sigh.
We've set Christmas Day as a hopeful date that we can stop sock-ing him. We tend to rush things, and then wind up with an extra week of first aid b/c we were hasty.
MUST LEARN FROM MISTAKES!!!

We got our tree up last night-- do need a timer for it, since I stole the timer for my kitchen herb project (the basil looks like a Charlie brown tree...very sad).

Anyway, this year's theme is silver and crystal. Lots of shine, and you can still see a ton of tree through it. Went up fast-- DH left the lights on it last year, so each section is fully wired-- just put them together, plug in, and voila, lights.

Ok, enough procrastination-- I must finish packing, call the cab for FOUR AM (I just keep saying it and not believing it), and maybe, finish a script or 2 for work videos I'm responsible for. I already have a few on youtube in the company channel...

4AM Soren! Yuck! I don't have to travel, but I do have to get up at 4:30AM in the morning to get ready for a stupid community garage sale that starts at 6AM. Now, I know I live in Phoenix and I can't compare to most of y'alls weather, but it's going to be around 35* at 6AM in the morning, and that's just dang cold to be out in the yard. But I have a bunch of crap....er.....valuable secondhand merchandise that I want to unload......um......rehome.

I wish you the best of luck, Carol, on the gentle rehoming of your valuable mementos.

and when that fails, call the "got junk" guys! They're awesome!

Colleen-- I wonder if we've ever crossed paths... I've been traveling for work for the "better" part of always since about 1996 or so.

ok, I don't want to think about that. I already put together that I spent THREE MONTHS in California this year.

this is why I feel justified going to their holiday party instead of the one here

Ok-- dog walking, nails, dinner, finish packing, "sleep" ha ha ha and cab. I'll post results either from the lounge tomorrow, or from home if I get turned away...

Well, it's official. Keira's getting a phone for her birthday. She's going to be sooo excited! And it is NOT an iPhone. It's an Android and does have a touchscreen, so she'll have to be happy with that.

We're taking her to Disneyland for her birthday and I think we've decided to pre-load it with some DL apps and maybe a DL background and some sort of Disney ringtone. We'll hide it somewhere in the hotel room, then call it in the morning and make her find it.
