The report I saw was a train going from London to Crewe. Anyway, sounds like a tough night to be travelling! I hope he gets home safely, and without aggravating the chest infection.

Caulking done! Some frustration, but not more than can be borne.

Good luck with DH getting home safely and well, Adi.

I am now going to tackle some Christmas sewing projects while 2/3 of the kids are out of the house.

Thank you No, it's the Greater Anglia London Cambridge route. In an completely unhelpful move, Network Rail has still dispensed no refreshments or useful information, but they have sent in a dog unit. There was no trouble at all but they've sent in dog units. Pah.

We don't even have a window as to whether he'll make it home before midnight (approx. 4 hrs time) as it's a horrible road trip home from there.

There's negligible shelter, the staff has closed the ticket office (as there are no trains) so they're having to stand outside and wait and nobody has so much as offered the stranded passengers a cup of tea.
I hope DH gets home safely and well.

Ok. Tomorrow is a dd. But we r having a girls luncheon. I am trying to decide if I can keep in a dd. We r also doing a candy exchange. I am really happy with my weight right now and don't want to mess up. I guess I will try for a salad and save tasting the candy for my ud. What would you do??

Brenda, I guess I'd go ahead and enjoy the tasting at this point. These events only come around infrequently, and the whole idea is that we can enjoy them and the people we socialize with. And you're happy where you are, so you could give yourself a little wiggle room. But I understand not wanting to blow it too.

Brenda, if I was me I would enjoy the tasting too.
I know me and I know I wouldn't be able to not try something. Especially when you have friends there and they are enjoying things and everyone is asking why aren't you having anything. I would just enjoy. Its the holidays and you are happy where you are so if you gain just a tad you will get it right back off.

Feeling pretty good today after my UD yesterday. I'm looking forward to my DD today. I have to drive to a different AAA office today in Stillwater, which is about an hour drive. I'm glad its a DD. I don't have to worry about where or what im going to eat. I'm just taking a oat fiber/chocolate muffin, an apple, a 50 calorie cheese stick and a cup of tuna. I am going to try to just drink tea and not have much at all. Hopefully!!!

It is all so mental. I'm sure it is that way with you guys too. Its like I just tell myself its a DD, relax. And it really does work. Even though I might feel hungry at times I just keep telling myself that and it seems to sooth the eating stress. I kinda really like that.
Its almost a peace I feel. It is weird. Am I just crazy!! it is really hard to explain. But I really like it.
I will be dead today in this other office so hopefully I can get on here.
have a good day everyone!!!

Brenda, I think you should go ahead and enjoy the luncheon and order what you want, AND participate in the candy tasting. Christmas is only once a year, and you might regret not joining in fully. If these kinds of things happened every month, then it might be okay to skip, but I'd go ahead under the circumstances. JMO, of course, and whatever you decide is for the best.

I've just posted this on a similar theme in another thread.

In general, on the topic of DD kcals, perfectionism etc., Mom2Boys started an interesting thread on this: I believe I had an epiphany.
Quote:
The reality...is - while our UD numbers are relatively static no matter what the rate of loss is we want, there is a lot of variability to that DD number depending on how we calculate it. There is also the wild-card of exercise. Let me give you an example.
...

(174.8[lbs] - I rounded up to 175 , 48 years old, 5'5". Now I do exercise regularly, but like most of us chose the sedentary option for purposes of this example)

20% 1796/358
25% 1796/449
30% 1796/539
35% 1796/629

Now we move onto the cusp of weight loss/maintenance:

40% 1796/718
45% 1796/808

And finally maintenance:

50% 1796/898
55% 1796/988
60% 1796/1078

Now - the reason behind this long winded demonstration is to show really what a wide range we really have with our DD's before any real damage is done. Perhaps if I normally were to be at 25% and 449 - when I go on a trip, I might be ok to instead stay in weight loss mode, but move up to 35% or 629. Hmmmm, or maybe even weight loss/maintenance - and be in the 700-800 range. ...

All of those options mean I can stay on track - maybe slow down a bit, but still stay on track and in control.

My point here is that just because you have determined your "business as usual" calories to be at a certain level, doesn't mean that you can't create a new "normal" for an event or a short period of time. If you normally eat at 358...just because you go up to 600 doesn't mean you "blew it" - it means you are just eating at a different weight loss level.
It's a useful, thought-provoking thread. And it seems relevant to holiday choices about DDs

I have never fully understood what weight loss/maintenance numbers are? You might maintain or you might lose?

Today was supposed to be a DD, but because of a holiday luncheon I decided to make it an UD and will keep my regularly scheduled UD tomorrow because it is a date day for me and DH. I also didn't want to mess up my rotations for next week so we'll see what happens with two UDs in a row.

While I would like to see continued losses this month I've told myself that with holidays it is okay if that doesn't happen. Maintaining would be good!

I agree about at least maintaining during the holidays. I really want to lose but if I can NOT gain i will be happy.

I have decided to make both Christmas Eve and Christmas day UD's. I have things to do both days so if i can keep a good rotation until then and keep my DD's really low i think i can do the 2 UD's in a row and not gain and then get right back on rotation.

And yes DD's are zen!! It is such an interesting feeling. It is serenity. You know you dont have to think about or worry about food. Even though i do think about food, I can just tell myself 'its a DD' and its like my body just accepts it.
It is really really weird. Maybe after doing 2 weeks of JUDDD I am finally feeling the benefits. I hope so.

It is after 10a here and i havent had anything to eat. I am hungry but am just drinking some tea and going to hold off as long as i can. If it gets too bad I'll drink my protein shake i think. Hopefully not starting up the food monster and just sticking to liquids will help the monster stay at bay. I hope so.

Thank you. He was coughing worse than ever during the night and so, today, has been horribly unwell. It's probably set back his recovery so, rather than mess people around, I've cancelled all of our weekend arrangements to give him extra time to recuperate. Rather than send along dog units and security, why weren't the rail operators more concerned with giving people shelter and some hot drinks?

Yes, it's pretty much that for WLM/Maintenance. At those numbers, you might maintain, or you might be finding that you're still losing at a slow rate. You might be maintaining but, as Kissa's sometimes reported, find that you're redistributing and you're losing from your waist. It's all about finding the sweet spot.

Totally off topic. We got Keira a smart phone for her birthday. She doesn't know yet. DH spent the greater part of yesterday activating it, charging it, and adding Disney apps, etc. She really wanted an iPhone, but we couldn't find a good deal on one, so we got her a really nice LG. DH had told her if she could come up with $200.00 (knowing she couldn't) that she could buy an iPhone.

Fast forward. She got her birthday card from my father and his wife last night. (Those of you who have been around awhile know I'm not close with them.) Guess what was inside? A check for $200.00. I had to tell Keira that the $200.00 iPhone deal wasn't available anymore because she was so excited that now she could buy one. And seriously, who gives a 9 year old $200.00 for her birthday?? They also did not mention Christmas in her card and the memo line on the check said "Happy Birthday!" I'm afraid they'll send MORE money for Christmas. Ugh. We are not wealthy people, so that amount of money for a child really irks me.

We did tell her she has to save half of it. We'll be at Disneyland Saturday and Universal Studios on Sunday, so we told her she could use $50.00 each day for souvenirs. Even that seems extravagant to me.

Hey Dawn I totally understand what you mean about that. Taht is a lot of money for someone so young.
I think its great that you are making her save some of it though.

I cant even imagine my 8 yr old having a phone when he is 9 but it is something me and my ex are talking about. Who would have thought years ago that kids this young would be getting cell phones!!! its crazy!!!

Wow, that is a lot of money for a kid Keira's age. Very generous, but perhaps ill-advised. Especially since they didn't check with you guys first.

It does crack me up how kids of all ages are walking around with phones. I had to beg, and I mean BEG to have an extension phone put in my room when I was 14 or 15. Ah, times do change.

Slow, I'm so sorry DH is feeling so poorly. I think you're right to just let him rest and recuperate for a few days. It's exactly the right medicine.

Shelly, I'm having UDs for both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day too. And then I need to have UDs for the 30th and 31st too. So I may have to do the dreaded MD somewhere between the 26th and the 29th, because I REALLY don't want to have 3 UDs in a row. I think I'm more and more convinced not to weigh in until the end of January so I don't have to see any damage done by these two Bacchanalias!

I understand about not weighing Carol.

I actually dug out the scale that my husband hid from me. I weighed after a DD a few days ago and then i weighed after my last DD and was down over 2lbs so that made me very happy. I still dont have the guts yet to weigh after and UD. I will weigh in the morning and pray that my loss stuck. If it did i will be a happy camper.
I am hoping to be down even more but i would be happy for this loss to stick and then maybe see another drop after the next DD.

So far so good today. I have had about 125 calories. If i can keep it under 300 today I will be very very happy. I would love to do a 0 DD but I dont see that happening right now. I turn really angry and get headaches when i get too hungry.

Maybe after sticking to JUDDD a little longer i will be able to do it.

My wife works in an elementary school and most of the young kids have phones despite it being a very poor area (more than half of the students qualify for free or reduced lunches). The worst thing, though, are the idiot parents that will try to call their kids during class time.

wow, that IS a lot of money for a 9 year old. i totally agree with the idea of saving some of it. it is good to start thinking of those kinds of things now. i gave my daughter (at the time she was 7) my old iphone and she used it as an ipod. for the first 3 months i let her buy apps with my account number. i could see she wasn't "getting" it... just putting in a password and BAM - a new app. so i told her she needed to start doing some extra chores around the house that she could get an allowance for and if she wanted to spend her allowance on apps, that was fine by me. the first time she came to me and wanted to buy a 2.99 app.i said ok give me three dollars. as she was counting out her dollars one by one i could see the look on her face. she said "wow, that's a lot of dollars for a silly app." i said "it's your money, do you want it?". she took her money back and said she would stick with the free apps for awhile. it was a huge lesson. it hurt her to count out that money and realize she wasn't getting it back. she had absolutely NO ISSUE with paying the 8$ necessary to buy Minecraft (or minecrack, as i call it). so there you go.
