We got our pans on a smokin' Black Friday deal at JC Penney's a few years ago. A 7" frying pan, a 10" frying pan and a large frying pan, all for $29.99. We use the large pan almost exclusively and aren't that gentle with it. You can just about clean it by wiping it out with a paper towel and nothing sticks to it. You can also use metal utensils in it, though you don't want to gouge at it.

The next year, they had the same deal but didn't include the small pan. It was still a good enough deal that we bought three more sets.

I didn't see anything like this year, though.

I bought a ceramic frying pan about 1.5 years ago, and it worked well for a long time and was the only pan I used to cook with, nearly every day. Eventually, it got burnt on crap that wouldn't come off. I thought that was it, and we'd just have to get another one, but mentioned it at a store similar to JCP, but only in the south (Belk) (where we bought the first one), and the lady said to bring it in and they would give me a new one. So I did a few days ago, and found a deal on two for the price of one. We did end up paying about 15.00 with tax in the end, but it was a good deal.

That's great Cindy. I need a new cookware set. I was going to check out JCP or Sears to see what they have. I have a lot of kitchen needs actually. I've asked for a digital food scale for Christmas.

WOE: Back to JUDDD!
I went to the gyno this morning and they told me they've changed the recommendations and I no longer need an annual PAP! Woohoo! I know TMI, but it's leading into something. I saw someone new in the practice and she said she could tell I've lost a lot of weight. When I went last year, I was about 50 pounds heavier than I am now. I told her I'd actually lost quite a bit before that appointment and I'm around 130 pounds down now. After a few jokes about saggy bits and the possibility of surgery down the road to put the girls back where they belong, she asked about my diet. I told her all about JUDDD and she's going to look into it, for her patients as well as for herself. She was very open to the idea and kept going on about how impressed she was with my loss.

I did NOT direct her here. I'm pretty open, but not sure I'd be happy with my gyno on my diet board.

ETA: I also had the BRAC analysis done (the one Angelina Jolie had that determined she's predisposed to various cancers). They won't run it until they know if the insurance covers it, so I may or may not find out. I do have a fairly significant risk with my family history.

what is your tradition?

sorry if i am chatty today. i am snow bound and jd is out of the country. may bundle up the 2 year old and go to the store just to see people
Did you get it of the house? I work at home most of the time, so I understand the feeling.

We used to do my Mom's for Xmas eve, and she'd make a big meal (2 meats at least) and then the inlaws were only 1.5 hrs away, so we'd go Xmas day, and stay over.

Now that we're a 6hr drive from everyone... We've tried the same thing, and I get all stressed out (mom moved to the country, ie mountains north of Montreal) and the 2 dogs, now 1... Mom came to me last year when he dh was away, and we sent my dh to his parents via airline points (all my travel has to be good for something, right?) and it worked out.
And this year I said no. Haka can't travel. So we'll do like last year, but Mom's dh is coming here with her, which is fine, I like him fine. He's got Parkinson's, so we joked (very darkly) that between him and Haka, who is more decrepit? I said, as long as her dh doesn't pee on the floor, we should be ok!

Gotta laugh, ya know?

I have one, from my grocery store brand. It's ok, but I like t-fal better I think. I want to know more about anodized. I think I had a wee omelette pan when I was in high school, but not sure where it went.

Wtg Dawn!
I was happy to get that "we don't need to see you every year, we have a good baseline" news too. I want to wait till I lose quite a bit before I go back for a *full* physical.

Fingers crossed on the brac. I want to do 23andme, the genetic test company online. Am mulling it over.

Lastly- go see my post about frozen chicken crockpot soup. Do you think it will kill me?
More than catching dh's cold?

She posted her menu yesterday, but I haven't seen her much besides that. Tonight (I think) she has a Knit Wits party, so she just may be really busy.

Hi everyone!!!!
I'm crazy busy, like this has to give soon or I'm going to burnout.
Work mostly. I'm still really grateful for the promotion I got in May, but boy, it came with loads of responsibility.
It has snowed all day and I had to get into work to conduct an interview at 8:45am, followed by a training and I'm working on a special investigation. I have to have preliminary finding to the state on Friday

I am grateful to have a job and one that I usually really enjoy and am well respected at, but my upcoming vacation is so needed!

2014 will be "The Year of No"
I have been saying yes to more than my fair share of work responsibilities.

Good for you Carly. You can't continue to do the great work you do and help so many people who desperately need it if you're burnt out!!!
Its not selfish to take care of yourself if you need to in order to stay at the top of your helping-others game!

I hear you, Carly! I have 3 days left of work until my vacation. Then I will be off until January 6th! I have so much to get done before Friday. I want to get my co-workers something before vacation so I still have to shop a bit tomorrow. The rest of the presents for my family I will have to shop for this weekend. The weather isn't helping and it took me almost an hour to get home from work. I was driving 25 mph all the way home! I bought some lottery tickets so if I win this would be my last winter in NY. Hawaii here I come!!!

I hear you. The drive home was a mess. DW bought some lottery tickets too. I'm not a lottery person per se, but 500 million... I could do a lot of good for a lot of people and buy a house (somewhere where there is no snow, ice or sleet... With a beautiful beach.)

I have to start keeping up with the daily thread more. You guys are all great. I need to get to know you better.

I love reading and then I don't get time to post and by the time I do get to post I feel bad that I don't say something about each persons posts!!! LOL

But I have read just about all of them and think this is such a great group. I'm glad I am back and hopefully things will stick and i'll stick with this. I have to. Im finally down 2.5 lbs after my DD yesterday!! thank god!! I have been so discouraged!!

Anyway, I love what was said about they gyno. I'm glad you don't have to go as much. I am so bad about going. I haven't been in about 5 yrs. I know, really really bad!!
And right now I really need to, with me gaining weight the last year and a half the way I have and nothing working. I think my thyroid is messed up or my hormones are jacked up or both or who knows. But my gyno passed away a few years ago and I just haven't made the time to find another one.

I am wanting to get some of the hard anodized cookware too. I have 1 pan like that and I end up using it for everything because I love it so much. I love that jcpenney deal!!!
Black Friday isn't the same as it used to be though. I don't like it starting on the evening of Thanksgiving. I like the getting up in the middle of the night and waiting in line until 4am until something opens. Its exciting!!!

You deserve the vacation Carly. You gotta take care of yourself so you can continue to do such a good job!!!

Looking forward to my UD today. Having lunch with a friend I haven't seen in forever. I'm ready for that. It will just be a Carls JR but im excited about it because I can lowcarb 6 dollar guacamole burger!! they are the best!!!

Enjoying my bulletproof coffee right now. I love that stuff. I'm going to try to hold off as long as I can before I eat anything. Especially try to get a workout in before I eat.

Have a great day guys. I will get on here more today if I can. We are so dead at work right now. I'm a travel agent for AAA and this is slow season. This is when we have lots of training and fun fun webinars!!!!

I love reading everyone's posts - but don't always reply -due to the volumn lately. LOL

Wanted to say about the holidays - I do Christmas Eve for my DD and her family and then the 25th is at her house. My son lives too far away and I miss seeing him and his family at Christmas, but we Skype almost all day.

I have one of those ceramic pans - I got the "green" ones at Kohl's when I had 30% off coupon... LOVE THEM! I ditched my teflon fry pans also.

Looking out the window at work at lots of snow and listening to the forecast for RAIN and near 60 on Saturday... I hope some of the white stays for Christmas.

Good morning Everyone. I am one, too, who feels guilty about not addressing everyone's posts. And yet I am lazy. I love hearing about everyone's life and struggles because, of course, we all have them.

Today, I have a hair appt. late this afternoon, and it's kind of put a damper on some plans I would have liked to make....a trip to the beach for a seafood dinner and shopping. Maybe tomorrow or Friday--well, definitely Friday since it's a UD. Duh.

Hope all are well and keeping the stress low as possible during this busy season.

Remember what our dear Kissa says - it's not what you eat between now and New Year's, it what you eat between New Year's and the following Christmas!

Enjoy yourselves within reason and then get back to JUDDD in January.....

Now I have to follow that advice! Had a great dinner out with friends we hadn't seen for over a year last night. We lingered over an extra bottle of wine. Today is a DD whether I like it or not! Fortunately there is nothing on the adgenda for today.

I don't know if I should describe the weather here or not as there is not a cloud in the sky. I think I will get to the pool or the beach today. Anyone want to join me?

Please enjoy your time with special friends and loved ones and try not to let the holiday stress be too much. Easier said than done at times, though.

Hugs for ALL

About to caulk behind our kitchen sink. I've been putting it off for quite some time, but I MUST cross it off my list today. I'm trying to clear up all these little chores before Christmas so I can feel decluttered. Trying to procrastinate, so I decided to post this here, as a statement of my intentions. If I don't post back saying I've done it, someone get on my case!!!

Get to it Sirtain!

Oh, Hawaii. Had I but won last night's lottery, I would be there in a flash!

My evil coworker just brought in a HUGE tray with about 10 different types of fudge, chocolate covered pretzels, candied walnuts and almonds, and a bunch of other types of delectable. They are all home-made by his wife. I have no calorie counts, and I've already had 2 pieces of fudge, one pretzel, one walnut, and one almond.

More like 4x6 or 5x7.

Meh, DH has been dumped in the middle of nowhere because of train problems and been waiting for a replacement bus service for an hour with no news on when it might be expected. This is unlikely to be helpful to his recuperation from a chest infection, given that it's cold, damp, and very windy. We don't even have a window as to whether he'll make it home before midnight (approx. 4 hrs time) as it's a horrible road trip home from there.

There's negligible shelter, the staff has closed the ticket office (as there are no trains) so they're having to stand outside and wait and nobody has so much as offered the stranded passengers a cup of tea.

Is that the line where someone was hit by a train?

Ah, that's not the account that DH was given. They were told that:
winds have brought down a tree across the line on one part;
overhead power lines are down for another station;
and, in addition, on a different part of the same line, a car has driven into the level crossing gate at another station (a station that I know quite well because it's one of the places that I travel to to kayak and it happens because of the adverse camber on the route and mud on the road).
News reports confirm those 3, I haven't seen anything about someone being hit by a train, that would be wretched (tho' all too common on the Underground at this time of year, sadly).

But, all 3 of these do explain why there are no taxis and no sign of a replacement bus service. There's little point having someone try to pick him up as the roads are blocked.
