I hate to bring down the lovely chat, but wanted to share...a lady whom I knew through friends over 10 years ago and had not kept in touch with, died last weekend. I had recently saw her at the animal clinic when we took our cats to be neutered. She was working as the office manager there. I was kind of shocked to see her, and gathered that she had hit on some hard times and was kind of looking for work, and I shared my phone number and said for her to call me and for us to get together sometime. I had added the vet place to my FB and saw where they posted last week that she had passed away, and was totally shocked. I looked into it, and found out that she died in a house fire. Apparently she was visiting with 2 friends (husband and wife) at their house over the weekend, on Sat night in particular, and the house caught fire...unknown cause, and the husband of her friend went back into the house to rescue Lynn (my friend), and died also.

It just seems so strange to me. It's a one-story house, and it was at 9:30 pm at night.

My ez-pass is on velcrow. I take it out every time I valet the car or bring it to the shop, but I would charge a friend either. As a friend I would never, however, ask to be driven to LGA or JFK. We take a car service. It doesn't even cost that much.

Cindy sorry to hear about your friend.
We found out last night that a friend of ours was found dead in his bathroom 2 days ago. We have another friend who is in hospice and will die quite soon. It is hard around the holidays.

I have really over- extended myself at work. I'm quite sick with a cold and my psoriatic arthritis is jacked up. My joints are killing me and I have 2 splotches of psoriasis on my FACE! I'll take the pain, but I'm far too vain for psoriasis on my face I can only use medicine for 14 days and it is day 12... Yikes.

Thank you. I am just so distraught over the entire episode. I haven't kept in touch with her, so I really can't say I'm devastated as bad as that sounds, but the circumstances are so sketchy. I just hope it was entirely accidental.

Carly, we posted at the same time. I hope your ailments continue to improve, and I can just imagine how bad it must feel to actually have it on your face. I'm sure it will go away quickly, though.

You know what's funny about this? (Funny weird, not funny ha ha.) A good friend of mine from high school died/was killed on Thanksgiving but we didn't find out about it until Dec 6th. He was living in Panama and fell off a 30th story balcony. I guess a few months prior someone had broken into his house and tried to attack him but at the time the police said it was a robbery gone bad. Of course now they're not so sure. He was at a party when he fell so who knows.

It was another one of those things where we've been friends forever but didn't stay in close a touch as I would have liked. Funnier thing - about 4 weeks before he died, he called me out of the blue. He'd gotten a new smart phone and realized his phone sync'ed with his Facebook contacts, found my phone number and called me. It was LOVELY to chat and i was so excited! Of course we promised to stay in closer touch... :/

From this I learn to never put off 'til tomorrow what you want to do today because you never know if today is your last today. Unless we're talking DDs, of course, then go ahead and put off until tomorrow!

Cindy, so sorry to hear of your friends death. How horribly tragic. I certainly hope it was just a terrible accident and not something suspicious.

Carly, I am so sorry you are going thru a rough patch. I hope you start to feel better soon!! I can imagine how hard it would be to have your face affected. I hope it clears up quickly ( You're still beautiful!!). Hugs.

I'm so sorry to read this. What a thing to have happened so soon after your re-connection.

I have a horror of house fires so have several smoke alarms that I test on a more regular schedule than anyone else I know. My paternal grandmother was one of 2 survivors from a house fire that killed 11 family members and I think that has given me a somewhat disproportionate apprehension of them (despite the fact that the fire probably happened nearly a century ago and I live in a house with electricity and central heating, not paraffin lighting or open coal fires/ranges and nobody in this household smokes so we don't have many risk factors).

After last night's ballet extravaganza, I'm out and about tonight as well.

DH has booked us tickets for Messiah at the Royal Festival Hall tonight. I'm absurdly excited as it's another major Christmassy landmark for me and I haven't been able to attend a performance for years. Messiah is very popular where I was born and for lots of people it's a Christmas/Easter fixture to attend one or more performances. And now I am, again, after all this time.

Sorry Cindy, Jen and Carly about your friends deaths. Always harder at this time of the year when we want joy all around us. Carly, be well soon, so sorry your face is affected too, I would hate that too.

Big hugs to all in need.

Slow, I almost went to the Messiah too! We had a special offer for cheap tickets, but in the end went out with friends locally. How weird that would have been.

I was down a tiny bit after my UD this morning, glad that the Sirts are working again. I had completely depleted my stores with all the missed up rotations while having fun vacationing and playing with Vicky. As always, if you don't work the plan, the plan won't work.

Hugs to all those who are having a hard time!

If I can stay in the 80s a bit longer — I thought of you all last night when, among my old clothes, I found a pair of black velvet stirrup trousers . They even fit me, but I probably won’t be wearing them… unless I can find a nice pair of boots in the back of the wardrobe…

So sorry about your friend Librarygirl. About 12 years ago my hubby and I had a friend who drank too much one night and passed out in his car with the car still running. He had parked on a lot of dried leaves and we were told his car caught on fire and eventually blew up. It was horrible. I had nightmares for weeks. His funeral was on Halloween so you can imagine what that was like!

Ah the Messiah! My first experience of that was when I was in my early teens and Mum realised it was on the radio. She shoved a score under my nose and I found myself singing along with her and the broadcast. She was alto and I was soprano. I was hooked from that day and, as it's a huge part of our local tradition, I have sung at several performances during my lifetime.

SS, the Nutcracker broadcast sounds just magical.

I took my sons to the wonderful Placido Domingo film of Carmen when they were small. It was three hours long, so I'd played the main tunes in the car for a week, so it was familiar. They loved it!
Part way through act 3, the youngest, who was about 6, said "There's a lot of singing in this film, isn't there Mum!"

Christmas party for work tonight at the Daily Grill. I've never been, but looked up the info on line and it looks like they have a pretty good low calorie selection. I'm looking at the Moroccan chicken for less than 500 calories, a couple of glasses of wine, then DH and I are taking advantage of the fact that we got a sitter, and having date night after. There will be *several* cocktails consumed.

This is my first post here in the Chat thread!! woohoo!!!

I feel like i can officially be in the group now i guess since i have a week under my belt.
I don't feel like i have lost a darn thing yet but hopefully my body is adjusting and i will start feeling some thinness!!
I don't weigh because i let it control my life so i am strictly going by my clothes. They are still tight right now like just about everything. I refuse to buy bigger clothes AGAIN!!! I wont so this has to work. Something has to give!
I even resorted to getting some progesterone cream. I found some that has really great reviews. I hope it might help. I know i am premenopausal and have been for a little while. My hormones are just jacked up.

Hopefully it will give my husband some relief too. Poor guy freezes at night cuz i get so hot that i have to keep the heat down really low. I am getting mad at him 1 day for every little thing and then happy go lucky the next.
I am tired of being this way. And i am so tired of eating healthy, working out, probably restricting too much and not losing weight!!!

Ok, no more ranting....sorry!!!

On with this great DD!!!! I really look forward to them but hate them at the same time!!!

Hey Shelly.I know just what you mean about the hormone imbalance. I am in the same predicament, and boy howdy my moods! I am trying 5HTP, which is available at most drugstores, but have also tried Amoryn in the past and found it to be very helpful. It's not available anywhere in my city, but can find it on Amazon. It's possible that you could find it in larger cities at a health food store.

Good luck on your DD, and wish me luck on mine!
