Dr. Mosley comment

A lady was interviewing Dr. Mosley and she said she had a hard time sticking to the 500 calorie limit. He said "Then try eating only protein on diet days instead,” he said, adding: “Atkins was on to something.” She said I nearly fainted in shock.

So maybe if we don't eat carbs or sugar on DD, we wouldn't have to watch the calories quite as closely.

I think I am going to try this. I would like to lose a bit more and am stuck!

I'm so glad to hear that! I was miffed at Dr J in his book when he basically poo-pooed LC and Atkins. So, like many health care providers and even the government, he is finally coming around to seeing the light.

I think the JB's have always pretty much agreed that LC DDs are easier. I do have carbs sometimes on DDs, and also sometimes sugar (popsicle), but try to stay pretty LC for hunger's sake.

ETA: Do you think he meant it would be ok to eat more if you don't eat carbs, or that it would be easier to stick to the protocol? I just re-read what you wrote and realized you meant that we wouldn't have to be as strict (possibly). But, is that what he meant, clearly?

Yes, I think that is what he meant. The lady interviewing him said she could not eat just 500 calories, so his response was "just eat protein then".

I would assume she would not have to count calories then, ala Atkins as he said Dr. Atkins knew what he was doing.

Tomorrow is a DD for me with no commitments, so think I will just do protein and see what happens. I can try this for the upcoming week. I know I don't overeat on really low carb, but might go over my allotted calories. On UD's I'll eat a variety of foods. This is what I love about JUDDD, but do feel I'm not sticking to the rotations as much as I should.

This was posted on a 5:2 site on Facebook.

This is something that I have been doing for a long while. If I have one of those really hungry down days...you know the kind where you are just inexplicably ravenous...I will eat above my calorie limits but only have eggs, meat, green veggies, typical Atkins induction foods. It tends to only happen for me at certain times of the month (ovulation, just before or during my cycle.) Otherwise, it can usually be traced to a big carb fest. But, eating extra Atkins type foods usually helps without causing a larger than normal bounce or an UUAD.

Eating all protein

Doing that even for one day just knocks the heck outta the cravings and
by second/third day you are not hungry at all. Make a bunch of deviled
eggs, hamburger/cheeseburgers, chicken fried, poached, boiled or baked

Drinks lots of liquid during this time.

When I began JUDDD, I had been focusing on protein/low-carb (like ProteinPower), and I contacted Dr. Eades (via his blog) to ask about the 'safety' of eating 400 cal a day on DDs. He advised me to focus on 'high quality' protein, and I did that throughout my years on JUDDD.

My DDs were egg white 'omelets' (microwave in a mug) and fish (shrimp or tuna). I don't think I could have managed my hunger otherwise.

I'm very carb sensitive, so even my UDs were low carb.

I lost my last 120 lbs doing JUDDD, and I still 'cycle' occasionally in maintenance.

I'm interested to hear how this works. By "eat protein" I assume this meant protein and fat. I can easily eat 1,500 calories of Atkins induction food so I'm not sure I would get the DD benefits with out also counting and limiting calories.

Can't wait to hear how other do.

I tend to believe he meant that eating all protein would help her stick to 500 calories. I wouldn't recommend eating all you want on DDs as long as it's low carb. That wouldn't be JUDDD, but straight LC. Maybe it would fit into 5:2, but I'm not sure. Interested to see how it works though, if anyone wants to try it!

Hi Leo! Nice to "see" you. (She was the person I followed on the original JUDDD posts.)

I think if you go over a bit on calories it wouldn't be as bad if they are protein as opposed to carbs/sugar.

I have a hard time eating 1500 calories - especially if it is low carb, Carly, so I think the protein is limiting.

I'm trying a protein day today. I try not to eat before noon, so have a couple of hours to go before I start.

And I am sick of Dr. Oz and his so-called healthy recipes without any nutritional counts. He is old school with carbs and no fat dieting routine. That helped me gain over 200 pounds eating "healthy"!

This has nothing to do with Dr. Oz. we are talking about the 5:2 diet and intermittent fasting.

I'm giving this a try today. Just had 2 scrambled eggs for a late lunch and I'm planning on a couple of hard boiled eggs and a small green salad for dinner.
