what is your DD number?

Since I am past the two week mark I am going to change mine from the starting 500 to the calculator says which is 367. What's your top DD number and what is the number you actually typically consume ( if different).

Carly 11-03-2013 03:54 PM

My DD number for my current weight at 20% is 312. I aim for 200, but never more than 300. I'm doing 5:2 now in maintenance, but during WLM I tried to cap DDs at 150-160 and of course did EOD.

Flutter 11-03-2013 03:55 PM

Honestly, I don't even know what my official DD or UD number is anymore. I try to keep my DDs as low as humanly possible most of the time. I'm coming off of "birthday season" at my house, so my DDs (and UDs!) haven't been ideal or my norm in the past month. I get uber hungry as soon as anything I have to chew goes in the pie hole, so I try to stick to liquids!

ETA: the goal is under 200 for me, but I don't really sweat under 350 if life happens. No big thing.

mafiamom 11-03-2013 04:30 PM

Wow! Low numbers! You guys are awesome!

KeirasMom 11-03-2013 04:43 PM

I'm in maintenance now, so I let my hunger be my guide and am usually around 700 calories, but go anywhere from 350-1000. When I was in WLM, I don't remember what my goal number was, but I always ate below it, usually around 250 calories.

adillenal 11-03-2013 05:51 PM

I have been doing coffee with HWC for breakfast and that is all so 50-100 calories. I find if I eat lower calories on DD's I can eat more on UD's. Now I am in maintenance so don't do what I do. I also did 200-250 calories or less during weight loss phase.

Low Carb Librarian 11-03-2013 06:24 PM

My number is 360 and I usually come in between 300 and 355 ( mostly the higher #)

Slimming-up 11-03-2013 08:01 PM

365 for me.
I used to bump it up to 500, but once I started cabbage soup, it was easy to stay low.
Now I typically stay around 350.

Goner 11-04-2013 04:48 AM

My DD number is 350 - but if I'm totally honest - I only stay that low about 5 times a month. I do EOD, still trying to lose a few more pounds. When I go over my DD calories it is usually by about 200 - but once a month my DD turns into a 1,000 calorie MD.

WOW - that was complicated. LOL

sweetlady2k 11-04-2013 05:14 AM

Mine is 347. I usually am right around there.

Sirtain 11-04-2013 05:19 AM

My Down Day number is 420. I am usually between 0-300, hitting 420 maybe 1 day in 4. If I have to go over, though, I allow myself up to 700 before I consider that it is not a Down Day anymore. But if that happens, I don't compensate by doing another Down Day right after. I shrug, have my regular Up Day, and swing back into it on the regularly scheduled day.

LoCarbGal 11-04-2013 06:24 AM

My DD number at my current weight, at 20%, little or no exercise is 365. I was sticking right around there for awhile and hit a little stall. So for now I've increased them back up to 500 (30% is 547 for me) because I've been doing more intense exercising and I had a couple of exhausted days and wondered if I wasn't feeding myself properly for the exercise.

I'm not weighing this month, so I won't know if this was a smart idea until I do weigh and measure at the end of the month! But I do know I've had a ton more energy since raising my calories.

LGG 11-04-2013 11:20 AM

Mine are usually in the 450 - 500 range. This is at the 25% weight loss mode for lightly active range on the JUDDD calculator. I've tried going lower, but I suffer from migraines, and they are triggered by my calories going below 450. I don't exercise much (I walk briskly 2 miles about 2 - 3 days a week, and hike 3 miles up and down hills 1 day a week). As I got closer to goal, I lowered my UD calories to the sedentary level on the calculator, but kept my DD calories where they were.

I have gone up to 600 - 700 DDs when life has called for it - out of town guests, husband spontaneously wants to take me out to dinner at a nice restaurant on a DD (*rarely* happens, so I wasn't about to turn it down! :hyst:). But those are still high WLM/maintenance levels for me.

shirlc 11-04-2013 11:35 AM

After two plus years, I still do 500 calorie DDs. I've found things that I really enjoy for 500 cals so it helps me a lot to just go with that. I tend to eat the same things on my DDs. I don't strictly do EOD either...I let my life dictate my DDs so I do them as I can...usually 2-3 a week.

mafiamom 11-04-2013 12:38 PM

I love seeing how customizable this plan is!

sorenkkg 11-04-2013 12:59 PM

Colleen :hiya:

your numbers would probably be similar to those above-- I just want to add for anyone who has more to lose that is reading this-- my DD number is in the mid/high 400's, but I know from past experience (and from other JB's advice, who were where I am now) that I can keep it at 500 for a while, and even have some 600 days and still lose pretty well.

I'll start dropping it as I lose a good chunk, say 10lbs at a time. And even then, it would be by like 50 cal at a time.

Slow and steady really does win the race.

:hugs;

Librarygirl 11-04-2013 03:42 PM

My 20% number is 364, but I often go to 400-700. Usually between 400-500, but will allow up to 700 (occasionally) if "life" calls for it, as someone else said. I stressed a little in the beginning trying to keep my DD levels low, but I doubt 150 calories more is going to make a huge difference, but does make a big difference in how I feel. :) I truly believe you should eat more on a DD, rather than quit JUDDD because it feels too restrictive.

Flutter 11-06-2013 07:21 AM

Absolutely!!! Just alternating lower cals with the higher cal days is MUCH better than not doing it at all!!! If super low DD cals are intimidating, or just plain not doable right now, do what you can!!! It's still lower than what you would have been doing if you weren't trying. You can always lower them later, anyways. (if you want to, you might not even NEED to!)

mafiamom 11-06-2013 07:25 AM

That is why this plan is so wonderful. It's so totally doable and quite forgiving.

Rebecca1979 11-07-2013 01:09 AM

The site said my DD # is 447, but I'm averaging around 420-430! It's easy =D

Mimosa23 11-07-2013 01:23 AM

Mine is 519 cals.

You must be young and tall! You are quite lucky to have such a high DD number!

Carly 11-07-2013 03:42 AM

I just saw your stats and I get 413 for your DD :dunno:

But if the number you are using is working- stick with it!

LOL! Not that young anymore... 38 is coming awfully close... But yes, I'm tall: 5'10" and I'm not daintily built either....

cactusrose63 11-07-2013 09:30 AM

When I first started JUDDD, I didn't even look what my DD should be at 20%, because I couldn't even wrap my head around 500!! I also truly do exercise pretty consistently and did not want to feel bad on my DD just to achieve a number. I allowed myself 700 and as I have said in the past YES I am very mental so just knowing I can have 700 if I want or feel the need, now I am able to eat between 500-600.

Truly, at 700, this is still considered to be in the weight loss range of about 35% for me with light exercise. So I thought, better to do JUDDD more slowly than not at all if I can keep my sanity intact. Even more important to me is that I found I did not get the diet fatigue and guilt as from other plans. The flexibility really has helped me start to get my head straight about my body image and also a number on the scale.

Okay, I can look now…my number should be 335 @ 20% with no exercise and 384 @ 20% with light exercise. Still can't go there though at this point, maybe one day!!

sorenkkg 11-07-2013 09:54 AM

My numbers at the moment (I say I'm 66 inches... that's 5'6" right?) are 2266 up, and 453 down.

I'm averaging around 600 on my DDs this past week or so, and it's working for me... my 25% is 567 and my 30% is 680, so I'm definitely in a WL zone.

Everyone is different-- height, weight, exercise, and then the X factor, which is how your body reacts to this WOE.

I believe in shaking it up when needed... so I'm doing this, and when/if I stall out for a few days, I'll change it up :)

I can relate to all of what you've said, Barb. Also, Dr. Johnson says on his website that after the initial 2 week induction period, most people feel more comfortable staying at the 35% WLM level over the long term than at the 20% level for DDs. If someone is happy and comfortable sticking with 20% - of course they should! But going up to the 35% range is still JUDDDing and recommended by Dr. Johnson himself. I find that very comforting to me, and yes - knowing I *can* have more calories if I really really really need them makes me be O.K. with having fewer somehow. :dunno: :)

I totally agree! If in my head I know I can go up to 700 calories, I seem to be OK with eating 350 :D the mind is seriously a psycho piece of work!

ilahstrait 11-07-2013 10:51 AM

In weight loss mode I kept my DD's between 0-300 calories. Now that I'm in maintenance mode I just eat cabbage soup, or some other low calorie soup whenever I'm hungry on DD's. I add extra up days because I continue to lose weight with the soup down days.

Lemontini 11-08-2013 06:07 AM

Mine is currently 375, but I try to stay below 300.
