I need to lose a lot - anyone else?

I'm wondering if I am currently the only one here with so much weight to lose. 86 pounds to start - but ultimately my goal is to lose 115. Somedays it feels like an impossible task, I try not to focus on the amount..but I also need to keep things real and keep pushing forward.

I keep reminding myself of the awesome losses here: Carly, Dawn, and many others. I just hope my age isn't going to be an obstacle. It's never too late, right?

Some of us have lost quite a bit before we became Judder's.
I weighed in at 225 and am only 4'10 3/4 inches.
Lost down to 150, regained and now am losing once again from
170. I am currently 158 and not losing very quickly.

Don't despair. My weight took several years to get off.
The plan here is to change the way your body and your mind
perceives and utilizes food. Take a good look at Carly and many
others. Believe me you are among friends.

It is hard to look at the whole number. After a month or so I made mini goals with a reward. I have a Pandora bracelet and I decided that I would get a charm at 175, 160, 145, 130 and then whenever I decided I was at goal. It helped and before I knew it I was at goal and beyond.

I don't have over 100 lbs to lose, but the 60 I did have seemed massive and daunting to me when I just decided I needed to get the weight off once and for all. This is now 3+ months later and I'm well over 1/3 of the way there.

A few things that have helped me a lot....

1. Realizing there's no rush - We all want to lose weight yesterday, but realistically these things take time. The most I've ever lost in a month was 20 pounds, and at the time I thought it was great and was amazed at how fast I was able to do it. Now that I'm older and wiser about proper weight management, I think a 6 pound loss in a month is phenomenal. That's "slow" to many and even to myself at one point, but if it takes me 2 years whole to lose all the extra fat I need to, so be it. The most important thing is not how fast we lose it, but that when we do lose it, it doesn't come back. Give yourself time.

2. Deciding this is for life - I know we as people have a tendency to set weight loss goals for specific occasions and then nearly kill ourselves hurrying to get the weight off to look great for whatever it is. Unfortunately, once the weight is off and the event passes, we get burnt out, go back to old ways and pile it on again. The truth is that weight management is a lifetime process for people with weight issues. Find a plan that works for you (JUDDD) and work it for life.

3. Tackling it in chunks - It's much easier to think about losing 5 pounds than to think about losing 100. Break your long-term goals down into smaller goals makes it all less intimidating and more manageable. We have challenges here that last around 8-12 weeks at a time. The support and focus encouraged by the challenges benefit all participants and we do very well during each one.

There is tons more but I think those are my top 3. You can do this. You ARE doing it. So just stick with us, don't put too much pressure on yourself, and work the plan. If you feel you need a break in a couple of months, take a short one and then get right back on. We're all here for you. Keep up the good work

Good answers from everyone. I am also one of the slower losers on here, but even if I stay 34 lbs lower than my highest weight for a few months, I'm not going backward. I had 77 lbs to get to my "goal weight" of 130, but I've revised it to 135 and now have 38 lbs to go. It's taken me over a year to get those 34, and it might take another year to get to goal, but this past year has been the most hopeful year I've had in a decade. Like Barb said, you're among friends here.

I'm right there with you.

If I were to hit my goal of 140, that's over a 150 pound loss! It seems very daunting to look at the big number for sure, but every little step I make is a step to better health.

I've been doing JUDDD for exactly a week now and it seems to be working. I'm feeling really good about this WOE. And it seems more doable than other thing I've tried. At least for me. One thing I really struggled with is not having things I enjoyed, but now those things are just a day away!

We can do this!

Thank you, ladies for being so kind and lending supportive advice.

I think breaking down my overall goal to smaller ones will help. Even if I lose 5 pounds each month -- well, that's 60 pounds of unhealthy weight gone in a year. I'll take that! Another thing is I really need to stop weighing every day.. sometimes twice a day. Very bad habit.

I notice that I get into a DD mental struggle with myself, I'm ok with the food but I start feeling anxious about my next UD. I try not to think about it but there's definitely some anxiety. Then when my UD arrives I'm hesitant to eat. Maybe this will adjust itself as time goes on.

Thanks for being here!!

You'll do fine Kris, I always say try to relax and allow the JUDDD magic to help you. This is so new to you that it isn't surprising that you are feeling a bit anxious about the UD.

It is interesting how many people find DDs easier than UDs.

Just keep on keeping on and you will do brilliantly. Slow and steady wins the race remember.

Kris

I know that feeling. Looking ahead at about 180 pounds to lose in January 2011 was so daunting. I almost didn't start (again!). But I just am so thankful I DID start, because I wouldn't be where I am today if I hadn't, which is 39 pounds from my 140 goal. It's been a long road, but I wouldn't trade it for instant thinness. I've learned so much along the way - about my body, my body image, my metabolism, strength, courage, determination. Along with some rough patches of hopelessness, hating myself, guilt. The list goes on.

Mini goals have been so helpful to me. Here's a link to a thread I started last December detailing my "landmarks". These numbers still motivate me to this day. Right now I'm shooting for <174 = BMI under 30 and officially only "overweight". Also I'm looking forward to 159, which will be half my starting body weight lost.

Motivation Points and Landmarks - What are yours?

The other thing that has kept me going is just being part of this group. I can't tell you the amount of times these gals (and guys too) have picked me up when I wanted to give up. Their encouragement and support keep me going. But also the information we all share here is so helpful when you're struggling with one aspect of weight loss or another. Please keep active with us here. It'll keep you going and going.

YOU CAN DO THIS KRIS!!! If I can, you certainly can!

Carol, I was weighed at 175 at the health fair last week, and 63.5 height. My BMI was said to be 32. At 174 your BMI will be under 30? I'm just trying to figure this out...sorry to be hijacking your thread, Kris.

Thank you, Cindy and Carol. With so much encouragement and support here I wouldn't want to be anywhere else! LCG, I read through your Motivatioal thread..what a fantastic idea. I need to set aside some time and think of writing out my short term goals.

Seriously, you're all the best!

Kris, I remember feeling the same way when I had 138 pounds to lose. But I just started, kept going, and now I have about 60 pounds to lose, which sounds like nothing to me compared to the original number. It's so doable! Especially on JUDDD. One day at a time. I really agree with the mini-goals, too ... helped me a lot.

I forget where I got that number, Cindy. I think it was my online calorie counting program. My ticker says I'm now at 30.8, so .

I just did a BMI calculator that says I'm at 30.2 BMI, so that's better. The chart they were using at work was from a local hospital. I went ahead and did the "ideal weight" calculation too, and interestingly, there were four different ones: People's choice (what people my age and height considered ideal) : 141; Medical recommendation (small frame): 109-143; Met Life: 115-128 and the Robinson formula: 121.

WOE: Whatever plan keeps me around 150 lbs!
Kris, I can't tell you how many times I tried to lose the weight and how many times I'd have moderate success, then blow it. I was the typical "lose 30 pounds, gain back 40 pounds" dieter for YEARS. When I started JUDDD, I saw many people with just 15 pounds to lose, or already at goal, and I felt alone with my struggles. I even posted a topic to find out if anyone had been doing JUDDD for more than a year, because I knew it would take me longer than a year to get the weight off. I got some great responses, and awesome support, and decided to give it a try. I look back now and think how easy and amazing the journey was, but only because I refused to let the numbers get to me. I told myself I'd be happy if I could "just" lose 100 pounds. Who says that? Well, now I've lost 131 pounds, almost all with JUDDD. It's been almost 2 years since I started my journey. 2 years ago, that felt like an eternity. Now that it's passed and I'm at goal, it seems like it went by in a flash. I wish you success!!

Christina, you're doing great! KUTGW!!

Dawn, when I fist did a Google search on JUDDD it was your story and progress pics that kept coming up!! That's what led me back to LCF and how I found you all. I've almost got 2 weeks under my belt and I know this WOE appeals to me, I guess the rest is time and patience.
