After having my very first DD in over a month yesterday, I just got my TOM this morning and it had been almost 6 wks. late. Can it be our female hormones are that sensitive to very low calories?

I only weighed a pound less, so it's not like there was a big whoosh that might have shocked my system.

P.S. Hope you have a wonderful vacation in Florida Carly!

Looking at the posts - seems peri-menopausal seems to win out - I'm 45 and for the past year - TOM has been a bugger - and some of that time I've been dieting - other times I haven't - there hasn't been any correlation - it could be a 'chicken & egg' situation!

Since the start of this year - I've been as follows

29 days
9 days
16 days (that was fun!)
38 days (hallelujah!)
27
25
26
27
31
26
26

My app claims my cycle is 25 days - used to be 29 - but you can see that is seriously 'averaging'!!!

In theory 3 more days to go - and I'm betting that isn't going to be happening

TMI - oh well - it's good to share what we're all going through!

I was kinda hoping the hot flashes I was experiencing up to recently, would help counter act the freezing cold shivers I usually have on DDs.

No such luck in the hormonal hell of peri-menopause!

I figured there would be a thread on this, glad I searched it.

My cycles have been regular for the last several years however, this month I got it a week early (within 2 weeks of my last one). I started getting cramps and stuff yesterday and felt like I was getting but I thought maybe it was just ovulation cramps because it was way too early but then I noticed some spotting and today I can definitely see that I got it :-P

Even though I've been doing some iteration of JUDDD for almost 10months, this is the first time I've done JUDDD within the caloric range defined in the calculator. I track my moods and cycles so I'll make note of this but just wondering if there's anything to be concerned about?

Many months later and TOM is still all messed up. I'm still doing 5:2 and getting it too often. It's actually a nice idea to consider doing EOD with really low DDs when I need a break from constant TOM. Of course I still want to get pregnant so I really don't want to screw up my cycle too much

Have you gone to the doctor about the constant TOM? I think you should especially if it's been happening for so many months. Are you actively trying to get pregnant? Sorry if the last question is too personal - but I really think you should because I think it could affect fertility.

My cycle has been super-regular lately and I was wondering why...I've never in my life been particularly regular except when I was on the pill. Then I remembered that metformin (which I take for diabetes) is commonly prescribed for women who have PCOS, especially if they want to get pregnant. It helps with fertility and making ovulation more regular. My cycle went from being anywhere between 25-35 days to exactly 28 days. I've even been getting it on the same day of the week for months!

Carly, I remember you were taking diabetes medications when you started JUDDD but you were able to stop taking them...was one of the meds metformin? If so, did your irregularity start after you went off it? Maybe taking it again would stop the short cycles and make things more predictable.

I have had three extra periods since I started JUDDD in late January, in addition to my regular every three weeks gig. 42, prob peri for me, but my Obgyn did say that losing a large amount of weight like 30 lbs can mess with the cycle. I did not tell her I was doing IF. I personally don't think it's the WOE that is messing with me.

I never did get another period, so I guess I'm done lol. I haven't missed it, but the side effects of meno are not pleasant sometimes. Still working on getting the right meds for that.

I was on an injectable medication for the diabetes, but I do have PCOS, so in the past I was treated with Metformin. The Metformin really, really, really upset my stomach. It was horrible yet I took it for over 18 mos. I think my cycle is more messed up from PCOS than JUDDD or 5:2, but my cycles get further apart the lower my overall calorie intake seems to be.

I haven't started to actively try, but OB/GYN knows about the frequent TOM.

Everybody says the metformin side effects are only temporary, but I've been on it for over 2 years and it still bothers me!

But I was having a lot of mysterious problems and aches before I found out that I had diabetes, and metformin cleared them up.
So I'm willing to put up with about 2 minutes of pain per day in exchange.

Some women who couldn't take metformin have taken d-chiro-inositol instead, to ovulate regularly and get pregnant. It's an extract from the carob plant. As far as I know it works similarly to metformin, or has the same effects in the body--but not the same gastrointestinal effects!

I take birth control pills and take 3 packs in a row skipping the sugar pill/period week till after the 3rd pack. So basically I have a period every 9 weeks. My dr. suggested it years ago because as she put it, you only need 2 periods a year to be healthy. Obviously talk to your dr. but from what mine said, as long as you're having at least 2 a year you're good to go.

Spotting?

Anyone else getting spotting after their cycle is supposed to be over? I just had my first cycle since starting JUDDD, and I'm having intermittent spotting. Wondering if this WOE is responsible or if it's an age thing (48).

My gut feeling is that it's an age thing, but who knows? I have also had some cycle changes since JUDDDing, but I have attributed them to my age (47) and just losing so much weight, which I know can mess with our cycles.

I'm tracking this pretty carefully since I already have TOM issues and PCOS. The first time I did JUDDD, I went off bcp right before I started. Was okay for about 3-4 months, though not very regular. After about 4 months, I started getting TOM twice a month and doctor put me back on the pill. Have tried 6 different bcp's in the past year and they were all terrible so I finally just gave up on the pill and went paleo (while still JUDDDing). I'm abnormally regular right now. Scarily regular. In sync with the cycles of the moon too. Just hoping it lasts.

But reading up on IF on paleo forums for women, it does seem like very low calorie can mess with your cycles. Maybe it's something your body gets used to over time though? There are so many variables though. I hope people keep posting their continued experiences!

I've been getting my period for 20 years and I've only been irregular twice. Both times were the result of an ovarian cyst. The second time occurred a month after I started JUDDD. I went back on the pill for a few months and I'm back to normal. I've been getting my period every 26 days since I was 10 years old so I'm one of the few with IF TOM issues. I've actually found that my periods haven't been as light and I've had cramps which I never used to get since I started JUDDD.
