Back from Surgery #3

Hi to all the lovelies!

Y'all must be sick of my "I'm back" posts! What a summer it's been. I've been sketchy for certain! 2 1/2 years out and I'm still recovering from the aftermath of breast cancer. Oy!

This summer I've fought the devil's own battle with lymphedema, and have spent a lot of it with my arm elevated or wrapped in yucky bandages or both. Then I had my 3rd surgery (of 4) in breast reaconstruction/double mastectomy.

I'm two weeks and a day post op from #3 and started back JUDDDing after 1 week. (Shhhh no, my doc DOES NOT know this.) LOL. It's very funny, this is a story of 2 surgeries...so it could be long.

Surgery #2 I followed the docs request not to come into his surgery room in ketosis. The week before I went back to high carb, low fat and promptly gained 10lbs. Pre-surgery I went in at 126lbs. I came out of surgery at 136lbs. And I was supposed to wait 8-10 weeks to start back on my old diet, not limiting calories or carbs in any way...so that we could be sure the tissue donations from my back would graft. I was too skeered not to do what he wanted. By the time I started back (let's just say it took longer for motivation to set in than 10 weeks...), I had regained 40+lbs and was up to 267lbs. Oy, my aching back and everything else. I was a mess. Depressed, chronicly high pain, not sleeping, lymphedema out the wazoo. Just a hot steaming mess. I was on pain meds for close to 3 months...heavy duty opioids. No exercise. No walking. Little ability to work longer than 1-2 hour stretches.

So I got motivated (and after an ass kicking, "You're killing yourself and will get cancer again" speech from my oncologist), I really knuckled down and applied JUDDD and low carb and IF again. Yes, I fast at least 14hours/day and usually about 16hours--every day, plus do JUDDD and lc. It's the only way for me to lose.

On to Surgery #3 (2 weeks ago) Fast forward...I told a big fat fib to my surgeon. I hadn't eaten the day before cuz it was a DD. Then day of surgery I was fasting too...I went in to surgery at 245. I had lost 25lbs in 3 months...that's a great clip for me. So JUDDD, IF and LC had done its magic once again. I told him I was so nervous about surgery (which I was), that I hadn't eaten. He said he could smell the ketosis on me and not to worry, he would give me some sugar in the IV. (great). So I went with it.

Came out...started immediately low carbing again. Was 253.2lbs when I left the hospital the next morning. Was off my pain meds by that Tuesday. Started walking by Monday (15 minutes). Started JUDDD that Friday (a week yesterday). And today I weighed 240lbs. So I'm only 4lbs up from where I was after last surgery. But amazing difference. No pain meds, working JUDDD easily. Walking and doing my core exercises again. Sleeping for 3-4 hours stretches which is HUGE for me. The difference is amazing.

It took me about 6 months to get over surgery #2. It has taking about 2 weeks to get over this one. Both surgeries were the same degree of difficulty and length. Both pretty major about 6hour surgeries. But the difference that diet played was incredible in my estimation.

JUDDD isn't a one shot wonder. I know very shortly that I will be back at my 218lb low and then I will go beyond it. I have one more surgery. And I will take it as I did this one...JUDDD up to surgery, LC right after and back to JUDDD in a week! (Oh and I'm healing just fine.)

Still can't work for long periods of time, and that may continue for the foreseeable future, but I'm miles better than I was!

Good to be back everyone! Hugs to all the Buddds!

What a journey you have been on, and continue on! Very interesting about the difference in your surgery recoveries/eating. At least you know now what works for you and can go into surgery #4 with confidence.

I'm so glad you're feeling good and back losing again!

It sounds like you know what works best for you by now. I am so happy to hear this last surgery was easier than the previous one. What a pickle to be in, wanting to follow doc's orders but knowing the repercussions. I don't blame you one bit for switching back and doing what you know helps you. Wishing you lots of pain free recovery time and I have absolutely no doubt that you will achieve every goal you set your mind on!!!!!!!! Big congrats having 2 more behind you and championing on!!!!!!! Go you!!!!!!!!!

to all of you and huge thanks!

So I guess it was wishful thinking that I typed I was 126 instead of 226. LOL! I didn't even catch that until now. But maybe next year I will be there or close to it?

Thank you for sharing, Pooticus. You've been through so much, yet stay so strong and helpful on this board. I'm glad you didn't follow doc's orders and kept your diet where *you* knew it should be, and it seems to have worked beautifully. I hope you continue to recover well, and I'm certain weight loss will follow.

Pootie, you are such an example to us all. Your attitude is awe inspiring.

I am so pleased that his surgery went so well. And I look forward to seeing that 126 one day.
