We have people staying for a few days next week. I think it’s going to be a very up and down month!

No! I want to stay under 9 stones!

But you’re right, of course. The reason I’m relaxing and missing a couple of down days here and there is that I want to make this something I can live with. If I have some weeks that are more like 5/2, I’m not going to worry too much about it. My BMI is around 23 now. I’d like to be a bit lower, but it’s not urgent, and I don’t want to get diet-fatigue again.

Very good attitude Ailuros! I agree, and I resemble that attitude! Only my BMI is not 23.

I’m up about a pound and a half after my weekend away. It’s an up day today, but the dining room is out of action, so food will be a bit improvisatory.

I have an ud today. I really like to wait till almost lunchtime to eat. Is it ok to do this on an ud too? I am afraid if I eat early my body will be more hungry on the dd as it will want to eat early.

That is totally fine. I rarely eat before 1:30pm on an UD and sometimes not even till the evening. I like to have a nice dinner and bedtime snack so when I eat at 1:30pm on my UD it is just a yogurt.

I’m back down under 126 (124.8 this morning, after a DD) — ready for the next round of visitors! I can see that progress is going to be very slow for the rest of this year!

I remembered a few days ago how I felt when I gained a few pounds after I started work (at 21) and went up to 115, when I’d been 107-110 for the previous 5 years. Funny how our perspective changes. 30 years later I’m not aiming quite that low.

Yes, I understand. I was 112lbs into my early 30's and perhaps I could get back there, but it would probably take loads of work and I would probably have to be diligent 100% of the time, which at this point I'm not committed to.

I’m not sure how true it is that it’s actually healthier to be a bit heavier when you’re older, but it’s definitely more work, and I agree — there is a point at which the extra effort to shave off a few more pounds (and keep them off) just isn’t worth it!

It's true and I think for me I would just get frustrated and probably burn out.
I see it a lot here. Women who are 5'5" or taller trying to get to and maintain weights under 125. They get frustrated with slow losses and give up. If I got down to 115, which I probably could do (although I have a lot of loose skin and not sure what that weighs) I would have to fight tooth and nail to stay there. I certainly wouldn't be enjoying my relaxed 5:2 maintenance.

A good Down Day dinner for when you have guests is a serve-yourself salad meal. Put out the greens and all the toppings(meat, cheese, chopped veg, nuts, fruits, dressings). It is easy to make yours low-calorie with just greens and veg, but you still have a full plate in front of you.

Good thinking Sirtain. I love salad meals. And you can offer lots of bread and avoid it, ha, ha, ha!

Good work Ailuros.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. My starting weight is 232.4.

My first goal is to lose 7 pounds and I will no longer be considered morbidly obese. It would be nice to reach this goal by the end of October.

My ultimate goal is to lose 104 pounds to be in a healthy weight range for my 5'4" frame.

My first down day is going great. I had a bologna sandwich for breakfast at 210 calories. I had a nutrigrain bar for lunch for 120 calories. My dinner is a special K blueberry crisp pack for 100 calories and that's it.

Feels good to be on track

I am doing good so far.. I just finished week 2.. I am down about 2-3 pounds.. Yah..
I am on an ud today.. It is very hard for me to eat 1700-1800 calories.. ugh..
I don't keep high calorie food at my house.. I think I will make a cheesecake and freeze it to pull a piece out when I need some calories.. I got my dd for the week planned out so I should be good..

1700-1800 sound high for your current weight. If you have added in exercise calories take those away and just eat your UD number at little to no exercise. I don't think any of use would recommend forcing yourself to reach UD if you added in exercise. HTH.

Brenda- I guessed at your stats but for 35 yrs, 5'3", 122lbs your calories should be 1580/316. Age and height will change that slightly, but I can understand feeling stuffed by 1800. I rarely eat that much and I would feel stuffed if I did that EOD.

Have you calculated your calories with out exercise? Maybe try that. I exercise regularly, but never eat back exercise calories.

Great going Brendajm! Hey, are you using the 20% calculations on the JUDDD calculator (little to no exercise)? If you're having trouble eating 1800 calories, you could adjust to 20%.

I did re do the calories after what you said the other day and I still come up with 380 and 1780??
I am 50 years old and I used light exercise as I do workout most days.. I change it from moderate.. ?? I like 1500,, that is doable..

Feel free to use whatever numbers you get for your age, height, weight with the little to no exercise option. I don't know your age or height so I don't know what that number would be. You should definitely eat all the way up to that number. Many/most of us do not add exercise into our calorie calculations. You can always add the exercise calories back if you aren't losing or feel hungry. I have never added back the exercise calories and it has worked for me. Others needed to add them in.

Brenda- if you are 5'4" or under 1500 will work fine for your UD.
