probiotic - Any one have any suggestions!

DH is having tummy problems and we are wondering if maybe he needs a good probiotic!

I checked at WM and a drug store and both places having just too many to pick from, the store brand is cheap but maybe not as good?? Also some are with a billion of those things and some are many billion.

If anyone here takes this, please tell me what to look for.

Thanks All!

KEFIR FOR ME

I make my own Kefir and drink one 8 oz. glass in the morning before
anything else goes in to tummy. Last thing in the evening about 8 p.m.
another 8 oz. glass. It is helping me tremendously.

I just brought some fresh raw goat milk in tonight and started some kefir. My little kefir grains have been in hibernation so it may take a couple of batches to get hem really going again. I don't like kefir but I am going to force myself to get used to it since I read Dr. Mercola's blog today.

I take Nutrition Now PB 8 pro-biotic . They are wonderful. I get them online but know Fred Myer sells them. They do wonders too.

There is an interesting one I am taking inulimFos. This is a water soluable fiber that
hapens to encourage the growth of a paticular bacteria that MAY lower your hunger
just a little bit while it lowers your triglecerides. Another strange thing about this fiber
is it usualy has a sweet tast and in one case it is sold as a sugar subsitute as is the case
with Just like sugar. As I said it usualy has a sweet tast. I have tried 3 brands and 2 were sweet one was like library past. One of the sweet ones from Jarrows reminds me
of cotten candy when just eaten from a spoon. But be warned this stuff can have a laxative effect and give you gas. Oh! this stuff is also the sweetner used in Chocoperfection bars sold here at Netrition. And as I said it may lower your hunger a
little we are talking about a verry minor effect if any. I think after using it I MAY have
droped my food intake 5 to 10% but that could have been all in my head. I am a type 2 diabetic and have been using 10-15 grams of it a day for a couple of weeks. I haven't
lost any weight during that time but my morning fasting BG is about 10mg lower and my
morning rise in BG ( dawn effect ) which had been in the 25-40mg range now is more like
15 to 25mg so it's helped me a great deal.

Does he like yogurt? Activia or Yakult might work well then. I think yakult is kefir and they have a "light" version sweetened with stevia.

I take a daily pill called Acidophilus Pearls. They are a tiny little pill and have done wonders for me.

Another vote for the Pearls. I was on some expensive refridgerated stuff and then Align, which can be expensive also. Neither on helped as much as the cheap Pearls do.

I take them twice a day now and they really help.

I have had success with switching to an enteric-coated pill ( I use Solaray) which supposedly does not dissolve in the stomach, but lower down.

I also make my own kombucha and if you google cultures for health you will find some good info. (Sorry, can't post a link, due to forum rules.)

Yet another vote for these. I got these because my daughter needed some probiotics and she cannot swallow pills. But she can swallow these, they are that tiny.

Sorry didn't see your post until tonight.

First thing is to purchase the "grains" They look like tiny little dumplings
and not what you think of as any kind of grain. I was blessed to have a friend
give me some of hers. I saw them for sale by going to Google.

Here's my formula:
Clean Pyrex 1 quart bowl
Do not use any metal spatulas. Only wooden or plastic.

3 and 3/4 c. of Hood LC Dairy 2% milk
1/4 c. heavy whipping cream
Heat this to nice and warm (not hot)
Add your grains and the milk that they are soaking in.
Stir up well, cover lightly (I use Saran and poke it full of holes)
Go away for from 12 to 24 hours, depending upon how thick or
how tart you want it. I'm a 12 hour. My grains are being used every
other day. I drink 2 8 oz. glasses. One in morning before coffee and
1 glass about 8-9 in the evening. The first batch took a little longer.

When you are ready sieve the Kefir into a clean container. Put the grains
into a clean jar with a little fresh milk. Place in fridge for next time.
Transfer the Kefir into a refrigerator container.

And I think the kefir grains look like little miniature cauliflowers. I use raw goat milk to make mine and cover the lid of the 1/2 gallon glass jar with a coffee filter with a rubber band around it. The grains will multiply and then you can share them with others. Mine grew so much I gave everyone at work some kefir grains. They will also stay viable if frozen or if left in milk in the back of the frig. I am trying it with a little protein powder since I am not a real fan of kefir but I want the nutrition from it.
