I got stung by a last Sunday. Actually, it was a wasp - a yellow jacket to be exact. On my right index finger. I have had an irrational fear of bees and wasps for many years. Don't know why...so this was a real treat.

I haven't been stung by anything in over 30 years - since I was a kid! I iced it that day, and although I had a red spot where it got me, it didn't swell or itch or even hurt that much once the initial pain faded. But the next evening, it started to swell. All yesterday and most of today my finger has been swollen to probably 1.5 its normal size, angry red, and a bit warm to the touch. It's starting to fade now, although still not normal.

According to info on the internet, this reaction is perfectly normal, and not considered an allergic reaction, just a localized reaction to the venom. It may last a week or more. Funsies.

Oh yeah, I also got bit by a fire ant. That'll teach me to pull weeds for my mom.

No biggie, just wanted to share.
Ouch a wasp and a fire ant! Glad your finger is starting to improve.

Wow Carol, I don't envy you! I never used to be afraid of bees or other flying stingers, until I got stung on the top of the head by a killer bee. That sucker HURT! Oh, and it was my 20th birthday and we were having a great big party a couple of hours later. Now I'm terrified of anything with a stinger.

ETA: I did the mud treatment when I was a kid and it seemed to draw out any toxins pretty well.

Thanks again guys! Yes Barbo, I did take my Zyrtec, which I already take every morning. I've been taking it morning and night since the sting. Also ibuprofen. Today my finger was a very angry red and quite swollen, but this evening it seems to have eased off a bit. Online it said this is called a large localized reaction, and one article (WebMD I think) said you could get stung on the ankle and have your whole leg swell up and turn red. Thankfully, this has not moved beyond this one finger for me. Hopefully it will be much better when I wake up tomorrow......plus it's an UD tomorrow!

I hope so too, Carol. My father could get stung multiple times and never have any reaction, besides the initial ouch. I know this because he knocked down a few wasp nests around my house years ago.

Well guys, I didn't think I did much at all with my weight routine, but I was so sore last night and this morning, I can barely bend over. I hope I can do it again this afternoon because I don't want to wait too long. Any tips?

You're not working out every day, are you? Every other day always worked great for me. (but yea, I was sore for a bit when beginning!) Good for you, LG!

And I can vouch for that. I was stung this summer on the ankle in my greenhouse through my sock and this is what I experienced even with running straight into the house and spraying the sting with Benadryl. I am so glad I saw the wasp or I would have thought I had been snake bit due to the more than one puncture hole I saw when I took my sock off. I had not been stung since I was a child so guess I reacted pretty strong. Not fun.

You're using really light weights (5 pounds or so?) I've found the older I get, the more my joints need recovery time more than muscles do. But generally, they say to add in more recovery time as you get older. Lots of people recommend "active recovery" and that's what works for me. Gets the blood moving to your muscles etc. Lifting really light weights can provide a good stretch too. Other than that, lots of water, sleep and food all work too.

My arms are sore, but not bad at all. It's my legs that are hurting the most, and when I bend down. I think it was the squats and lunges (particularly the lunges). I only used 5 lb weights, but probably would be sore if I hadn't used weights at all. I didn't do anything but walk yesterday...going to try and do some more (with weights) this afternoon. I know my age is a factor, but being out of shape and not having done these types of exercises for over 10 years is probably the biggest factor.

Yikes! Sounds awful! Did it itch like the dickens? Mine is looking a lot better this morning but itching more than it has since it happened. I'll be icing it a lot today.

This morning, I came to work to find that there was leftover steak in the fridge. I opened it up and it turned out it was not steak, but brownies and turtle bars. Of course, I did not have any.

Then, I showed them to my husband, and he picked up a turtle bar and took a bite. I caved and had a small bite only.

Now I feel like I am losing my mind. I did not have any more, but I can't stop thinking about it. This is supposed to be a down day and I am not eating, but I keep going over and getting an olive to eat, and when someone fixed a frozen pizza and offered me some, I had one piece, but only the toppings.

I practically feel frantic. There is too much food here. I leave here at 1 pm and go straight to my other job, where there is no food, so I will be safe when I get there, but may still have cravings.

Tonight, my son's family is coming over for dinner, and I fear that my DIL will bring high carb food with her, which she does because she gets irritated by my diabetes, and then gets angry if I do not eat the higher carb food. I am not cooking tonight, so I have no control over the menu.

Anyway, I am going crazy with carb cravings on my down day. When will I ever learn? This, my dear friends, is carb addiction.

Rebecca - have you tried an "eating window"? It really helps me if i make a rule to eat between a certain time. Takes a bit of discipline, but so does saying no to brownies

Oh boy, that is a rough feeling to get through Rebecca. I know it well. If it's too rough on you, you might want to consider just making today an UD and go from there. These craving days (for me anyway) seem to pass just as quickly as they come on, so tomorrow you might not have as tough a time. Good luck!

I agree with Carol. Make it an UD and I'm sure tomorrow will be better.
Otherwise get really busy with something. I find the hungries or a craving always passes within 20 minutes and if I get busy with something I tend to forget all about it.

Hot tea or broth helps too!

Oh yeah. Swollen and itchy and it stayed swollen for over a week. I am on the lookout for wasps now when I am in the garden.

On normal days, when I don't eat a bite of a turtle bar, I have no issues with self control. I just need to not eat sugar and I will be okay.

I did decide to go ahead and eat yesterday, especially in light of the fact that I had a dinner party at my house.

And, for all my stress and eating too much, I did not gain weight yesterday, and I lost inches!

Today is another up day, because of another family get together, so we'll see how I do when I weigh and measure in the morning.

Sometimes our bodies just need a little shake up. 2 unexpected UD in a row sometimes even help with a loss especially when we don't do it very often. JUDDD forgives!

Yep, you are almost at goal anyways, so no big thing with 2 UDs in a row. Having a dinner party and trying to fast would be uber rough!!

Thanks girl! I hadn't thought of before/after stuff. I'll have DH snap something soon and try to find a before one. (I don't have many, though...and probably none with just me in them)

Cool, I'm sure you'll like it. You didn't want to do part at the clinics? How many family or couple cases will you have to carry?

Melinda, I loved college and graduate school, too. I even went back and got my CASAC about 5 years after graduate school. I was very close to going back for my PhD, but that would have been a lot with my work schedule and wouldn't likely increase my earning potential.

I ocassionally teach an undergraduate course from time to time and the only thing the PhD would really help with is a factulty position at a college or university, but I'm happy with what I'm doing now so no school right now.

I have to stop playing around and try to get pregnant in the very near future...

Love the new avi, Flutter! I think the idea of a before/after is a good one. I have one on here (or had!) of last Jan. (2013), but it's not there anymore. I might have bf take a pic of me in a dress for me to post here soon. Little camera shy though.

I made the executive decision to have a UD today, instead of a DD. I might start doing MWF DDs and TTHS UDs for a couple of weeks to see if it makes any difference. If it doesn't, then I might keep doing it...if it's worse, then I won't. I can't even hope for better!
