Can't Get My Head Back Into It - Need Help :(
 
Hi you guys,

I think I need some help.
I'm not new to JUDDD. I did JUDDD last summer and successfully got down to my lowest weight ever. I had lost about 20 lbs using HCG and then another 15 lbs using JUDDD. I felt great - fit into clothes I thought I could never fit into and felt great about my body. Then, life happened and a year later, here I am heavier than I ever recall being. You'd think there was an easy fix to this. I lost weight before. I clearly know it can be done. And yet, I can't. I'm too tempted by food. I can't power through a DD anymore and I can't stay within my calories for UDs anymore. I really really don't want to use HCG again but I'm so scared that I won't be able to lose weight any other way. I want to get back into JUDDD. I know it works but I just can't seem to get my head into it after my break from it.

Any tips or advice? It would be so appreciated :sad:

Spoonful, I wish I could give you the advice you're looking for, but unfortunately my experience is only of staying overweight for over a decade because I was not ready. I knew what had to be done, but I had to be in the right place. I finally got so disgusted with myself that I would have done anything. I think you have to get to that place and have the strength *within yourself* before you can commit to weight loss. You sound like you're ready to do something about it, so that's the first step! No, I don't think there is an "easy fix to this". You're normal. Our bodies are good at protecting us and fighting back against physiological calorie deficits. We're wired this way and it's very hard (if not almost impossible long term) to try to fight biology through logic.

Maybe this sounds cray-cray, but why not start doing a month at maintenance levels or just a little below to get used to doing a rotation system? Get some success under your belt to build up your confidence. Work on other habits like building up an exercise routine that will make you feel self-confident and make you feel that you can stick to something. Make sure you eat all the excess calories that the exercise levels will give you. You'll be building muscle and losing fat and won't even notice that you're in a bit of a deficit but you'll be losing fat nevertheless. That will build up your physical energy, nutrition and mental reserves and let you ease into a losing mode. It's not a race and there's no prize for being the fastest loser unless you have to make weight in a wrestling competition.

Hi Spoonful! I'm sorry you're feeling so frustrated right now. I agree with what's been said so far.

I think the best approach to weight loss is not to just "do" a program for a little while and then go right back to whatever it is you were doing before. I've tried that many more times than I care to admit and all that happened was I endured a program for a month or two, lost a whole bunch of weight (usually as much muscle as fat which left me tired, crabby and hungry) and within months of eating "normally", which is inevitable, I gained it all back.

The better approach in my option is to choose a WOE that you can live with forever. Let it be your new "normal". You're going to have to change your eating habits forever to keep the weight off forever. Let's say that means doing JUDDD with higher calories on DD's and maybe even UD's at the beginning. Yes, you probably won't be winning any prizes for fast weight loss, but as someone mentioned above...who cares??

What would you get more satisfaction from? Fitting into a size 6 in 2 month's time only to stay there for a week before rebounding.....or taking 2 years to reach the size 6 and staying there for the rest of your life?

Come back to JUDDD....get used to doing the rotations with higher calories, add a little physical activity to the mix most days of the week. Drink lots of water, make healthy food choices and meditate on your goals. Lower your calories bit by bit so it's not a shock to your body until you reach that sweet spot where you lose a pound or two a week and you're golden. Take it one step at a time and you will get there.

:hugs: We really can be our own worst enemies. Don't be so hard on yourself! You're HERE already, and I have found that's always a good sign. Keep reading, IMO, reading on the boards helps motivate you to get started, AND STAY THERE. I don't do well if I stop reading/posting. It's never been a good sign for me. ;) I guess it's along the line of, hanging out with people that have similar goals as you keeps you going & focused. KWIM?

Anyways, it's a head game. You CAN do this. You have before & you sure can do it again. Just hang out here with us for a bit and maybe we can help get you going. :heart: The girls have already suggested some great ways to get started again. I love the idea of starting at maintenance/exercise levels and easing in. Whatever way you decide to do it, just getting started is the hardest part, I find. Jump in & don't think about it anymore. ;) Just DO it! You'll feel better.

So Happy wrote such a :goodpost: to you last year on this. It sounds like you might be in a not so great food environment that is somewhat out of your control. That's really tough circumstances to try to diet / eat healthy in. :console:

Indulge! Enjoy your food to remind yourself how you can eat every other day.
If you "want" something on a Down Day, remind yourself that you can have it tomorrow. :)

:welcome: back! You have to be ready - I mean really ready mentally to stick with any plan. Maybe you're just not there right now. I love the idea also of starting at maintenance levels and going from there. I also agree, hang out here with us and you may find yourself getting "there". Everyone's enthusiasm and seeing successes will surely get your head where you want it to be...in the JUDDD game! :jumpjoy:

I remember I did great when I was logging in my weight daily and writing what I would eat for DDs and UDs. Here's to another go on JUDDD!

Spoonful, in case you haven't been reading the board lately, you may not have noticed that I've been dieting now for 11 months. I have lost 33 lbs in that time, but I thought I'd be to goal several months ago (when I first started). The reality is, we can take breaks while dieting, but never lose sight of the path we've chosen. You can screw up, eat too much, gain some weight, but never stop trying and it will happen. You will lose the weight. The only thing that will prevent it, is not starting. :):hugs:

I was having a hard time starting several weeks ago. This is how I got into it almost painlessly:

week 1: Intermittent fasting 16/8. That is, choose an 8 hour window during which you will eat anytime you want. For example, 10 am - 6 pm. Then fast continuously for 16 hours till your eating window comes around again. Most of the fasting is done while you're sleeping. This is very easy.

week 2: Intermittent fasting 17/7. A 7 hour eating window and 17 hours of fasting (mostly while sleeping). This is not hard.

week 3: begin JUDDD. At this point JUDDD is painless.

I'm right there with ya spoonful. I got down to 145 now I'm 159. Yikes! Going to give it another go. We recently moved and I have had so many other things going on that I just have not taken the time to keep up with my calories. I'll see you guys on DD Monday!

I have no idea what your carb philosophy is...but, this is something that helps me get started whenever I have a vacation, holiday weekend or just lose focus. I start out with the first DD back being no carbs, but a little higher on the calorie end..so 600 or 700ish but that is not set in stone. If I am really hungry I will eat more as long as it is green veggies, meat, or otherwise very low carb. What this does for me is to start turning off the carb cravings so that my next DD will go better. By the second DD I am usually ok to dive right back in to my normal rotations. My normal rotations are lowish-moderate carbs on DD and moderate to controlled carbs on UD.

Although I don't do Low Carb any longer as a WOE I do agree that there is nothing like it for appetite suppression . I often do a few lower carb days after some time way too.
