Newbie ready to give it another go....but I have a ???

Hello Everyone,
I have a question about the JUDD calculator, I just entered my information in the calculator and wanted to know for sure if these numbers are right....
5.1"inches, 186.4 lbs, and Little or no exercise, 20% Wt. Loss Mode it came out to be UD = 1501, and DD = 300. Wow 300 calories on DDs is that right.

Hi "D"! Welcome to JUDDD! Without your age I couldn't replicate those numbers (unless you're over 100 years old!) If you don't mind sharing your age, I can confirm your numbers for you. It sounds like you'll probably come away with more calories on both UDs and DDs.

I have similar numbers — I’m 5' 2". I’m not exactly doing JUDDD, but I’ve just been eating a little lean meat/fish plus salad/veg on alternate days for the last month, with pretty much whatever I wanted on the in between days. Not going wild, and moderately LC. I’ve lost about 5 pounds. Just out of curiosity, I tried the 300 cals today, but really, 300 cals is not much food! If I can eat a bit more and still lose weight, it’s a lot more likely I’ll stick to it!

I would start with 500 and see what happens, for a couple of reasons. A. why only eat 300 if you can eat 500 and lose? and B. 500 is much more doable in the beginning and will help you stick to the program until you get more comfortable lowering your calories further. That's just my opinion, of course! In my case, the calculator says I get 333DD/1666UD. I've been doing 500/2000 since day one and lose just fine if I stay on plan.

You can do 500 for the first 2 weeks for sure. You may continue to lose with 500 calories DDs, but I know I definitely would not. Or it would be slow going and I would get frustrated personally. It can take some trial and error, but give the calculator numbers a try after the first 2 weeks of induction.

Dr. Johnson says there is little benefit in going below the 500 cal deck on DDs, despite what people's numbers are?

I think it just varies so much for different people. Why not start with the 500 and see how you do? You can always lower it if you're not losing well there. I am one that needs to have lower cal DDs to lose. (but I tend to eat more on UDs, too!) Good luck to you, and welcome!!

I agree with Melinda that it varies. You might find eventually that 300 calories is no big deal, so there's that. If that doesn't happen, though, I had one of my best months ever doing DDs at about the 35% level (around 700 cals for me), so not everyone needs 20% or lower DDs to lose well. And it's absolutely OK to do 500 for the first two weeks.... that's what Dr. Johnson suggests. After that, you get to choose ... 20% DDs or lower or higher (within the weight loss range).

You should have over 1800 on UDs and nearly 400 depending on your age. Between 40-50 (which is all I calculated), UDs would be over 1800, and DDs would be between 364-375. Most of us start (and some stay) at 500 on DDs.

I'm 5'2 and my stats started at a fraction over 300 and 1500.
They're now even less - but I'm 60 and weigh 126 lbs.

I definitely lost best when I stuck to my numbers but, as has already been pointed out, everyone is different and we all need to discover what works best for us.

DDs do get much easier for most people after the sirtuin kicks in.

I used her height and weight, Flossy and put in 20%. At 40 yo and at 50 yo, it was over 1800 on UDs and 364-375 on DDs.

Ladies,
Thank so much for all the info, for those who asked my age is 51 and 52 in October. I assume this will change my numbers slightly, I think I might shoot anywhere from 350-450 calories something in that range.
