Weighing Post-Up Day

Some thoughts.

I take as my weight, the number I get AFTER an Up Day.

For two reasons. I am thinking that my maintenance will be one of these options: doing 4:3, doing 5:2, or keeping to ADF, but having the Down Days when I am below goal be more of Moderate Days.

Any of those, most of my days will have a medium or normal amount of eating, so most of my weights will be taken AFTER Up/Eating Days. So, I figure I should get used to the weights on those kind of days.

Secondly, that if I take my post-Down Day weight as 'hitting goal', I will immediately go up after my next Up Day. Mentally, I don't like that. I want to BE AT 154, and sometimes go below, NOT be at 154, and often going up.

A side benefit to this, is that I will 'touch' a new low several time after Down Days, before I get to it after my Up Days. By the time I do, I really feel like I've earned it. It feels real to me, and not as if it is just a fluke.

I wanted to figure out my thinking on this, because, for the first time in 20 years, I am about to go into the 160s. It seems almost unreal, and yet I am not excited, just looking forward to it a a pleasant way. It seems very real and inevitable, not like a fantasy. I like it.

Your thoughts?

I think that's a sensible plan. I get motivated by lows after my DDs, but I know that if I'm not still in WLM, I'm going to have to go down by 2-3 lbs under my goal weight in order to keep it around the number I want/need. Until I get there, I'm still going to claim the lowest number!

That sounds great, mainly because you will not be disappointed. Any weight that you see below your post UD weight will be a bonus! Great job on the weight loss, BTW!

I totally get your reasoning Sirtain. I agree, when we see a new low after a DD, we often "lose" that low for a few days or even a week or more until we really get there firmly. Personally, I'm claiming each new low. I always know I'll be there "for real" very soon, even if I bounce back up. But especially for maintaining, I'd want to pick a number that I rarely bounce up over.

You are doing so great, and ready to drop into the 60s - wow! I'm so happy for you! If you are not excited.....I AM!

I plan to only weigh after UDs when in maintenance for exactly the reasons you gave. I might even weigh only once a week after an UD.

Whatever works & keeps you motivated!!! I always lose a "new low" for sometimes a week afterwards. It doesn't bother me anymore as I have faith in the plan & know it'll come back around and eventually be my new "high". It's such a mental game. whatever works for you!!! I am excited you feel confident about those 160s. It's a great feeling, isn't it?

This really resonates with me and makes total sense! I have avoided weighing after UDs, but you've made me consider starting to. Something to think about for sure!

I like your thinking on this. Makes perfect sense and I think I'm going to adopt this method as well. My planned DD yesterday turn into a MD (had a meal with friends from out of town) and I've in essence changed my rotations because I made today a true DD. I'm still going to take my weight as planned on Thursday but it will now coincidentally be after an UD. Makes the switch to this new weighing schedule pretty seamless. Thanks for the idea!

Sounds like a great plan.. Most of our issues with the number on the scale is mental so why not play into that game so you can feel awesome when you do get on!! I Do my best to not let what the dang scale says make or break my day.. but.. Some times i could really really punch the dang thing! )

I like your plan

I like your plan... however for myself while in the beginning stages, I need to see those #s for after a DD, which helps to keep me motivated and on track. I think I could utilize your plan when I'm closer to goal and switch and get the #s after a UD to help me prepare to be more realistic and stay on maintenance forever.

Isn't interesting how an arbitrary number can mess so much with our heads?!

I read a theory that our body touches on a lower weight, then goes back to where it's comfortable for a few days before "deciding" it's safe to go lower on a permanent basis. Certainly fits with my numbers anyway!

I can certainly believe this from my experience. There were some numbers that I was almost SCARED to touch the first time. It didn't seem real, or as if I 'deserved' it. But given a couple of weeks to adjust, and I was raring to claim it! I guess some weights must be approached as carefully as icy lake water on a summer's day.

I've seen this pattern in myself too. Very interesting.

It's also so funny (and a bit neurotic - I'm calling myself this not anyone else! ) how a new low number is so beautiful and wonderful when you see it. That same number is hideous and disgusting a few days or a week later when you've gone a little lower and bounce back up. I'm feeling that way right now about the low 190's. I was so excited to get to onederland and the 190's felt miraculous. Now I'm looking longingly at the 180's!

THE SCALE

It's my friend.....no it's my enemy...I hate it...I love it.
Can't live without it....Scared to death of it. I always cringe at the
doctors office...

The most beautiful number in the whole world to me at one time
was 199.....Onederland. Now if I saw it, I would be unhappy.
One day at a time, one meal at a time. I must say that since
I've been on this program I am more comfortable with my food plan.

Well, I'll join the neurotic bunch! I totally know what you mean about that beautiful new low number becoming your nemesis a week later ...

I have the same pattern with a new low sometimes too. I also only tend to lose part of the month. Usually the 10-14 days after TOM. This month it is very late and that is really frustrating!
