IF hunger
I know that hunger is an inevitable consequence of fasting, but I would like some tips on dealing with it. I have been fasting since having a small breakfast this morning and am very hungry. Water helps a little, but I know I just have to get my mind off it. Any suggestions?

I know, it won't help you today, but nevertheless: Eating makes me hungry :stars:, so I try to eat as late as possible in a DD. On a DD, I skip breakfast and lunch, have a really small snack in the afternoon and have most of my calories at dinner. I've just started two weeks ago, but that's what works best for me so far.

Coffee or hot broth work in a pinch. Eating later in the day if possible is a good trick. Really, you have to find what works for you. I prefer a good mix of protein an veggies for my calories. Some prefer mainly fat, mainly protein, or mainly bulky veggies.

Hot beef broth with a splash of tomato sauce or tomato paste and tabasco mixed in.
I don't get the same satisfaction from chicken broth, it needs to be beef lol.

I agree that eating makes me hungry, so I try and stick with liquids, including coffee w/cream until later in the day.

I also have finally decided that the pterostilbene is curbing my appetite for sure. I rarely have any real hunger pangs anymore and have been taking it daily (150 mg first thing each morning) for a couple of months now. Here's a whole thread on it:

I had let some emotional problems lead me back to the food about a year ago. I finaly
worked through the emotional issues but just couldn't get back into JUDDD. Well about
2 weeks ago I started using the probiotic InulinFos and noticed it did reduce my hunger
some. I realy started back on JUDDD 9 days ago and it's been real easy now. If you try
this start verry slowley like a couple of grams a couple of times a day as it can have a laxitive effect and cause gas, And I did have gas at first but now take about 20 grams a day with little or no gas. By the way Just Like Sugar is 99% inulin fos.

I'm another person who doesn't get hungry till I start eating. I just have a snack with my night time arthritis medication right before bed at 9:30pm or so.

I use to find broth to be helpful- beef or chicken- didn't matter to me. Celery and cucumber are very low calorie for the volume, but just staying busy I find is the greatest tool. Exercising also kills my hunger.

I take the pterostilbene and resveratrol, too.

I'm getting a lot hungrier on my DD's than I did at first. I think I'll try the Pterostilbene. What's the difference between it and Trans-Pterostilbene?

Meanwhile, the cucumbers are in season and I'm eating lots of them! Also, unsweetened Hibiscus tea seems to help me fool myself that I'm "eating" something. I get bulk Hibiscus at the International Foods store. It is labelded "Jamaica."

I'm not sure there is a difference. I think there may have been discussion about this on the pterostilbene thread, but I'm not sure.

My Jarrow says trans- pterostilbene and my Doctors Vitamin Shoppe says pterostilbene.

I am another who gets hungrier the moment I eat something. I stick with coffee and no cal liquids for the most part. Early on, and sometimes still on a hungrier DD, I will eat some Wendy's chili or add in a skinny latte or frap and that helps me oodles. Trial and error is your best friend for a bit, I am afraid. You will figure out what helps you most!!

ETA: dill pickles!! I like them on hungry DDs sometimes, too...and hard boiled eggs!

A little spice really help kill my hunger. A few spoonfuls of medium salsa usually does the trick for very few calories.

How long have you been doing this? After 5 DDs, my hunger really subsided! I know a lot of people say wait as long as possible into the day to eat, but that doesn't seem to work for me so I carefully plan my calories to spread them throughout the day. To keep the hungries at bay I drink diet sodas, chew sf gum, use gluc (I do a 25 cal choc pudding) and drink lots of zero cal drinks in general. I also make sure the foods I am eating are super filling (for example, I love to slice fresh brussel sprouts in half and sautee them until they're slightly crispy. Squeeze on a little lemon juice and add salt/pepper. 84g of brussels is only 35 calories and I find this very delicious and VERY filling. I usually pair it with 4 egg whites for another 60 cals)
