I've done 2 different PSMF programs (Bernstein diet clinic with B12 shots was one) where the food intake is / was very similar to HCG. I dropped 40-50 pounds very quickly on both (in 4-5 months), maintained for awhile but work stress piled it back on. I seem to have a cut-off of around 180 before I wake up and smell the coffee and do something. But on both, I plateaued and stalled out at 145 or so for like a month at a time. Just didn't seem worth it... well, and my hair starts falling out. That's sort of a bad sign to me. So I can definitely see losing 15 pounds or more in a 3 week stint of HCG since that's about what I could lose on the same diet with no whatever it is that they take to suppress their hunger and speed up fat loss. Ketosis itself suppresses hunger, so I'm not sure about that???

I also did Lyle Mcdonald's Rapid Fat Loss for about 6 weeks in late 2011 but did not gain the weight back and in fact lost further at a decent pace of a pound or more a week after rotating when I was done to a calorie counting diet of ~1500-1800 per day. He allows one free meal and one 5 hour re-feed period per week and that seemed to help prevent my metabolism from tanking. And I did not get squishy fat on his diet, in fact gained LBM and some definition while on it. No hair loss beyond the norm. I was lifting weights though too and walking the dog is a given. He's adamant about not doing too much, if any, cardio beyond brisk walking. He also recommends .9-1.25 g of protein per # of LBM per day (for an average BF%age person) in order to not lose LBM while on his program. Less for heavier people and more for lean.

For myself, I'm sticking to ~600 calories & mostly protein on DD's not because I think your muscle will immediately fall off in a day of fasting but because it apparently helps control my appetite considerably (maybe too much so!) on UD's. I don't want to have junk food cravings and if I stay at that level, it seems like I don't. In fact, I have a hard time wanting to eat much but maybe that will change when I don't have so much pudge for my body to eat up. Also because that's the number for 30% WLM, light exercise. I'm not in a rush, just trying to do what I will end up doing for the rest of my life hopefully with no more of these "diet til your hair falls out" plans. Although I'd like to be able to cut back to 2 days a week of IF'ing one day.

Your story is very interesting, Jacqueline! Thanks for sharing it!

I am also hoping to be able to cut back to less DDs per week at some point.

It looks like you are doing great! Just take it one day at a time- rotate- and the pounds will come off. Sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly, but if you are true to your calorie limits it will work.

I had a good day today. Bacon and eggs for breakfast, tuna salad and chicken bone broth for lunch, a Fat Bomb for an afternoon snack (it was not part of my plan, so I went over the amount of food I was "supposed" to eat) and oven roasted chicken livers for dinner.

Well, I have been making a Fat Bomb of sorts but finally found a recipe and it sounds so much better frozen!!!

3/4 cup coconut oil blended to butter in NINJA
1 stick salted butter
1 pound of fresh ground almond butter
3 tbsp creamy peanut butter
1/2 cup Stevia
2 1/2 cups of lightly toasted unsweetened coconut flakes
1/4 cup cocoa powder
About 1 cup of roasted, unsalted mixed nuts - not sure since I didn't measure them.

Put in silicone ice cube tray and freeze for a tasty low carb treat

FAT BOMBS!

There are lots of recipes out there, and this one is mine:

These are the five ingredients for my Fat Bombs, which you stir together well:

9.5 Tbs. melted coconut oil
9.5 Tbs. (150g) almond butter
70 drops liquid Stevia
5.25 tsp. cocoa powder
9.5 Tbs. melted salted butter

Pour a scant 2 Tbs. into each of 24 candy or mini muffin molds. I use a silicone candy mold that I bought at Michael's Crafts. If you prefer, you can use those little paper mini muffin cups, lined up on a cookie sheet.

I place my candy mold on a small cookie sheet first, and then fill it, then put it in the freezer. If you try to put it in the freezer without first putting it on a cookie sheet, you'll be sorry.

Freeze for at least 30 minutes, then pop out the Fat Bombs and store them in a bag or other container in the freezer. You can keep them in the fridge, but as soon as you hold one with your hot little fingers, it will melt really fast. Frozen, it melts slower.

Hello, all! Today is my first DD on JUDDD. I have two Atkins shakes and an Atkins snack bar waiting for me today. And one cup of coffee w/half and half and a few drops of stevia. Not sure if I ate enough calories yesterday to get me through today, we'll see!

Most of us just eat real food on our down days. I think I remember someone thinking that they had to do shakes and bars, so I just wanted to let you know that shakes and bars are not required.

Your meal plan sounds great to me. I know a lot of people including myself started with the shakes at the beginning. I found it very helpful until I was able to count calories on my own comfortably. Have a great first DD!!

I wouldn't hesitate to go a bit higher and then step down gradually just to get used to the rotations instead of jumping in at 500 or less. The hunger on DD's goes away once you get a couple of weeks under your belt. FWIW, I find the casein + protein content in greek yogurt extremely filling / satisfying. It takes a lot longer to digest than regular yogurts since the fast-digesting whey is removed to get the thickness. Plus mixed with a few frozen blueberries or other fruit + some splenda, it's like ice cream.

Thank you! I am experienced at counting calories accurately, so I will eat real food and save the shakes/bars for convenience! I had my coffee w/h&h, 1 oz of deli roast beef and rolled that up around 1/2 tsp mayo and 1T dill pickle relish. Hoping that will keep me happy until lunchtime!

Wendy, it does sound like you're doing great! Isn't it just amazing what we can do and accomplish? I'm so glad you're with us.

Rebecca, I printed your Fat Bomb recipe - it looks sooooo good! I have some low carb friends and family that will love them! Me too!

! Good luck on DD number 1. It's just the beginning of an amazing journey. I'm a couple weeks from my one year anniversary doing JUDDD and I never would have believed I would have stayed on it this long, but I love it so much I don't ever want to leave.

Hi everyone!

I'm a long time lurker of Low Carb Friends but just learned about JUDDD last week. I'm trying to lose these last 12 lbs of pregnancy weight and hopefully this way of eating will be a way of life for me after my goal has been met. I've been struggling with my weight for the past 20 years.

Today is my first DD, so please wish me luck! Off to drink my first shake of the day...

Keep in mind that you can just eat real food. You do not need to use shakes.

colamalu & 3littlebirds. I have been here only a few weeks and started out with shakes as when I eat the bars it makes me crave sugar and carbs. Now I
eat small amounts and count calories on DD&UD!! It is working slowly but WOW I feel better than I have in along time. Carol it is great that you have been here almost a year! Amazing and you r always helping us to keep on keeping on!!!

Welcome to the newbies! I've been JUDDDing for 3 1/2 months and sometimes I still feel like a newbie.

I know not everyone who posts here does JUDDD, but why a fat bomb? And just how many calories would be in one of those ? That recipe and photo had me drooling. LOL

Yesterday was a very hungry DD for me. It took all I could do to hang on and as it was I went over by about 500 calories. I wouldn't worry, but it was the way my mind was telling me to quit all day long and JUST EAT whatever I wanted. Sheesh. I want to succeed and maintain. I do. Just don't want to feel like I'm "dieting" while I do it. LOL

For those of us that choose to do JUDDD in a ketogenic way (high fat, moderate protein and very low or zero carb), a fat bomb is a healthy snack that provides needed fat to the diet.

The fat bomb recipe I posted, if you divide the recipe into 24 "bombs", has 131 calories each: 13.2g fat, 1.5g protein and 1.5g carbs.
