I also only exercise on my DD. I find that I have more energy. I also like not working out everyday. I start to feel overwhelmed and I find that I stop going and two weeks later I'm starting all over again. So find what works for you.

The DD shivers are rough since I apparently work in an ice box and like Carly I'm starting to get them on my UD as well. Usually means a drop at the scale is coming my way.

Welcome to all the newbies!

I haven't had the Down Day shivers yet (maybe I still have too much 'insulation') but I have noticed I can no longer tolerate hot baths as well as I used to.

Hi Apsen, good to have you posting with us.

I so agree that you can do anything for just one day. This makes JUDDD possible for so many of us.

Nice to see you Gina.

Barbo, great job on seeing those first pounds going. Well done you!

Weight Watchers- they are small, but good.

I tried many times to go back to LC but just couldn't stick with it. I decided if I am not going to low carb I am going to have to do something, so here I am again.

I did a DD Tuesday and another today. They never got easy for me, even before. I white-knuckled every one to some extent, but every "diet" is like that for me. I may try some version of 4:3 or 5:2 if I can make it work.

At least I feel like I have a plan and I know I will find support here.

popsicles on DDs? I could only do that if it was a HOT summer day. Now, frozen margaritas outside in summer? Sign me up! <broken record!>

Monkey, you avi pic is funny!

Barbo, glad you are seeing some results already!

GME, welcome back! How many cals are you attempting on DDs? Maybe start a bit higher and work down as you adjust?

Hi, Aspen, welcome! Love your sons' names, btw. Such fun ages, too! We don't have to worry about you being bored at your house. I have kids, too. (boy:16, boy:14, girl:9) Anyhoo, sounds like you are going to love Juddd!

Oh, I eat the popsicles on UD even though they are only 1 point. I guess they would be good for DD, but brrrrrrrrrrrr.

I can't keep any high calorie goodies in the house in case I sleepwalk, but I keep those because even if I ended up eating 3, which never seems to happen, it would be less than 150 calories.

Speaking of popsicles, the ones I love are fudgesicles "Original Fudge Pops" with no sugar added. Seems to be the only kind in the store, and they taste exactly like the regular ones. 40 calories.

I have been doing an hour or so of low-key indoor walking/marching/dancing 5 or 6 times a week, and only do weight-bearing on DDs. I don't feel like it makes me hungrier at all, and there's definitely more time for more workout on DDs!

You can't have too much insulation Sirtain - you have a lot less than me, and a whole lot less than I did when I started experiencing the shivers!

I started on August 1st. I already introduced myself in the main intro thread.
My current plan: UD 2000-2500 cals DD 500 cals

I have already done 2 DDs. On DDs I do a 20 hr fast and then eat a 500 calorie dinner. It was not too difficult, but yesterday at 4:30 while I was out I began to obsess about getting home to eat by 5. I must have had an odd look on my face because my son kept asking me if I was ok. I told him that I was just hungry. I seem to remember when doing 5:2 in June, that the urgency to eat immediately does lessen with more fasting experience.

The other odd thing has been a slightly panicky feeling at the end of my up days. Like " Oh no, tomorrow is a DD wah!" I keep hearing another fasting friend in my head who says "No one has ever died from being hungry for one day."

Yes, it definitely gets easier with time. We say "Hunger is not emergency." For most of us here we can go a day without food and not be in any danger. In fact- just the opposite. The research shows the IF is health and restorative.

Paula, and other newbies, yes hunger is a part of IF. I still feel it pretty strongly 8 months into JUDDD on DDs. Sometimes it's more annoying than others. The difference from when I started and now is that I *know* it is not an emergency, no matter how hungry I get. You see all these diets talking about losing weight without hunger, etc., but why should we never get hungry? Millions of people around the world are starving, and not for just one day. Our hunger is natural and easily remedied the very next day, so I try and think about that when the growly tummy becomes noticeable.

For me, grumbling tummie talk on DDs usually means a really nice scale in the morning. That always does wonders to help me through tough ones.

There is a pretty long thread here about how many of *us* did experience an increase in hunger around the 2-3 month mark, then it diminished again after a few weeks.
I don't know that *we* ever came to a conclusion about why that happened, but I think the general consensus was that it had to do with the body/metabolism re-adjusting.

Thanks for all of the great thoughts on hunger. I think experiencing hunger within the adf framework will actually help me with my messed up relationship with food.

Hanging in there...

I had almost a month of JUDDDing under my belt before going on a ten-day vacation. During vacation, I looked for chances to exercise, but I didn't diet. I was up about six-eight lbs afterwards.
Since I was low carb for over a year before JUDDD, I figured it was my body filling out with water weight. It was bound to happen sooner or later.
After resuming JUDDD, I felt like I've been all over the place. There were times I felt like I was having issues w binging or having UUADs.
I thought reading Johnson's book would help. It did, but I think I get more from this board. I am reading "brain over binge", but it is a stretch to relate bc (thankfully) I am small potatoes compared to the author. I do make sure to exercise on my DDs, so I can eat back some calories.
Today, is the first DD in two months that I feel good. I am hoping I turned the corner. I am hoping to work through all my bad habits and enjoy this WOE. I am dedicated to JUDDD. The JUDDD BUDDS are an inspiration. Thank you!

Sometimes it is tough, but you are doing well to work through things.

I alway suggest popping in here as often as possible. It really helps to get feedback and know that we are not alone.

Hi Everyone!
I'm so happy I found JUDDD and this forum. I started on Aug1 and today is my 3rd DD. I eat about 2100 cals on UDs (mainly paleo/primal), and then I've been eating about 420 cals on DDs (2 tbsp coco oil, 2 protein shakes). I'm not really hungry yet, but I might switch over to chewfood after a couple of weeks or so. I also lift 3x a week.
Nice to meet everyone!

I really want JUDDD to work so I am going to keep checking in to ensure success. Today, I weighed in after a DD and was +2. I've read about the bounce, but mine keeps going up. I am going to be more dedicated to journaling until I get into the groove.
Using the calculator, set for light exercise, 20%, I am UD 1990 and DD 400.
Today, is an UD. I am at about 1900.
In other news, I am so bummed. I loved a brand of stevia. Today, I found out they changed the formula. It is now awful tasting. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Welcome 30by32!!!

Five, those numbers sound a little high, unless you are very young. I input 35 yo and get 1751/350...but maybe you are younger than that!

I like Splenda, or sucralose (store brand). I cannot stand the stevia I've tried lol.

I agree that 1900 might be a bit high Five. If you have added exercise in you can try the numbers with little to no exercise to see if losses are better. I exercise at least 5x per week, but never like to add calories back since I'm working hard to burn them off.

In the beginning it can be a bit of trial and error with getting the right level of exercise and it works differently for everyone.

Oops, Five, I thought you put in little to no exercise. I am eating between 200-400 more than the calculator recommends on some UDs, so it just depends on how fast you want to lose really.

30by32, your avi is inspirational! Or, it could make me cry at the hopelessness of ever attaining that kind of figure!
