Since I am tracking so carefully, I see that when I first started JUDDD on 8/11/13, I was eating hundreds of calories over what the calculator told me to eat on my UDs. During those first several days, I was losing body fat.

Then, I tried to "do it better" and stick to the calculator, and I stalled and started gaining again.

The next several days after that, I started eating hundreds of calories over the calculator again, and I immediately started losing again.

I have come in and out of JUDDD many times. I was able to do it the first time, but just haven't been able to get my JUDDD mojo back. I visit and everyone seems so happy and I want to give it another go, but I just can't stand to be hungry at night. I can absolutely fast all day, no problem, but can't make it past 7:00 or so.

Over and over I would have a perfect down day until evening and then lose it. Even if I pulled off a DD I could hold off eating on my UD until late afternoon or evening. I decided I may as well go with my strengths and do Fast 5 since I do believe IF is a good plan.
Dont give up, if your comfortable fasting throughout the day, just save your calories for night time.I just have little bites of things throughout the day, like some gluc / cream cheese onion dip, with cellery in the fridge, and just have a bite when i feel the hunger strike - or a coffee, although i think tiny bits of food throughout the day will keep the metabolism burning.

I cant sleep without a full tummy, so while i settle into bed and watch t.v and wind down, i have a protein shake made with frozen ice cubes in a blender, so its like ice-cream, then thicken it with Konjac flour - then after that, eat a warm Gluc pudding in your favourite flavour... i find the mixture of the cold, and the warmth helps, or a stock (beef) cube with some konjac flour in it to make it thick like gravy, thats my ultimate, and i eat it while in bed.

You should make up a few disposable tubs in advance in the fridge/ freezer, so its right there when the cravings set it. I know if i have to make something while im hungry, i tend to go with the easier option, where as if its there, ready to go, then ur more likely to stay focused.

- You can do it, you know you can!! or if your stubborn, have someone tell you, you cant do it - this way you will go to all lengths to prove them wrong hahaha.

You can google free online body fat calculator.
I've used the US Navy calculations. Glad to know that seems accurate. I just don't have the time to measure very often.

I have become a pro at measuring. It takes me about 1.5 minutes to do all 7 measurements.

I am failing with JUDDD. I keep trying to follow along, but I cannot handle it. I will approach it from a different angle, but just when I figure out a doable DD, my UD goes UUAD.
I am only weighing in once every two weeks, but it is not good. I am way up. I am keeping rotations, for the most part. There have been some weekends away where I've had to have some consecutive UDs. I am journaling only half the time.
I was enjoying eating foods that I had been avoiding for over a year. It was fun having wine with friends. However, I think I have too many opportunities to blow it.
I will continue with JUDDD, but I am going to break the "it is so easy and forgiving" part by complicating it. LOL!
I have three days before I go away for four days. I am going to do the fat fast (80% fat), but keep with a rotation. Today, Mon, is an UD. I will do the fat fast to my UD calories, 1700. Tues, MD, fat fast to 1000 calories. Wed, DD, fat fast to 500 calories. I have not done an MD yet (not on purpose, anyway), but I wanted Wed to be a DD.
Thursday, begins my vacation. Things will be out of my hands, as far as where we go for meals or what will be provided since we will be house guests. I'll try to avoid excessive drinking, eat lots of veggies and protein. I'll avoid high fat and carbs since there will be wine with my meals.
I may be able to get a DD in on Friday.
I think it is obvious that I feel confused. Even though I let down my guard with indulging socially, I have been exercising 5 days a week, with cardio/weights.
I post every so often, but I read the boards daily. I read old posts, too. It seems to be working for a lot of BUDDDs, but I cannot get it right.

I think you're just figuring it out. It's such an elated feeling to realize you can have normal foods again, it's easy to let it get out of hand. Plus, a lot of us just need to get those things "out of our system". Maybe that's what you've been doing. I'm just proud that you are not throwing in the towel too soon and sticking with figuring it out.

Enjoy your vacation and don't worry too much about food during that time. Maybe not restricting yourself too much then will let you come home ready for some good, solid rotations. You can do this!

tighe!!

FiveNine, please don't give up. I have had sooo many disapointing months, extremely slow losses, some gains, but I haven't quit. Even if you don't JUDDD for the entire vacation, or the week before, just go back to it. It takes some people longer to get into the groove (ME! ), but if you stick with it, you'll be thankful later.

Rebecca, that's interesting since you're a low / no-carber. When bodybuilders are cycling, they'll do a carb re-feed and paradoxically that will reduce water weight and drop pounds. Mind you, they're probably ingesting 300 g of carbs per re-feed and usually make it low fat. I wonder if the same thing is happening with you? Or maybe it's just a metabolic push? Whatever it is, glad you can eat more and lose more!

Hi Rebecca, nice to meet you! Why did I choose JUDDD? Well, it looks incredibly easy. To pass on an indulgence for only 24 hours is something I can do. So much better than denying myself forever! I love love love food and could eat a ton of it. Already in a week my stomach has shrunk considerably. Now I am eating with intention behind it, not just for flavor. I read the book and with my new friends on this board, I am completely committed!

I too am looking for support

Just starting a LC/JUDD diet. I would like to lose about 20 pounds and keep it off. Don't think I have ever been on maintenance! Am 56 yo and have always been chunky, sometimes actually obese! I am a wine drinker and will chose to curtail (not eliminate) on down days. Where is a good forum for future follow up since your thread appears to deal with August newbies. Also, any techies who can tell me why my picture is upside down would be helpful

Itghe, I am so pleased you have chosen JUDDD, what could be nicer than only dieting half the time? And love to read that it is already working its magic for you

Can't help with upside down picture Misselly, I am too old to be a techie. I am a wine drinker too as are a number of us here.

There'll be a new thread for the September Newbies and you newish Newbies will be welcomed there too. Otherwise we have a monthly 'Daily Chat' thread too.

I should prob be in the chat section...oops!
I was down one pound after doing high fat UD. Today, I did a high fat DD (700 cal, instead of 500.) I did burn some calories exercising, (300.) I guess I'll take my stuff to the chat section.
Thanks!

This might be a naive question, but how do you know you're losing body fat specifically? By measurements? If your measurements go down, does that necessarily mean it's BF and not LBM? I'm very curious about the science.

You may find it easier to do DDs without alcohol. I love wine and the occasional cocktail, but if it's a glass of wine or 200 calories of food, I have to choose to eat! Plus, once you've had the wine, the DD is sometimes out the window, so to speak. Seasoned JUDDDers occasionally do partake on DDs, but I would not recommend it in the beginning. However, of course, how you spend your calories is totally up to you.
