I think my success on the scale has to do with my eating more like 800 on down days, and adding protein and healthy fats. Thoughts?
Yes- it is super nice to be recognized.

If the 800 DDs are working for you than keep on keeping on. I'd love to have 800 calorie DDs and lose- jealous!

We're visiting some friends at the end of next week so lots of preparation before then.

I miss checking in here.
I figured you were busy with all that Slow, but was wondering about how you're doing. I'm glad you had time to fly-by! You are missed around here!

Wow, that is wonderful, Carly. An executive who truly appreciates and recognizes you is a rare thing. Enjoy your day, both of you!

Scale was good this morning...down a total of 10.5 pounds now.

STILL working on painting, etc. My daughter is going to stress out when she comes over today. Her big double b-day bash is here tomorrow and there is a LOT left to do. I am going to go get brave and climb the ladder and sand the last spackle patch then paint over it. Otherwise, it would have to wait until my hubby got home and he has enough other stuff to do. Then I can get my son in law to help me move the heavy bookcase back. The whole project took two days longer then we first thought. Argh! I don't wanna complain, cause it looks amazing!

Wonderful success Ellen! I'm sure all this physical activity on your house is not hurting any!

SS! So great to see you pop in ... I've been missing you. Sorry about the neighbors ... and you're a great friend to them!

Carly - Wow! So happy about your day off! You deserve it after all of that.

Dawn - I know you had mixed feelings about whether or not you wanted the car to be totaled, but when it happened to me, I found that I got a really good settlement (way better than I was expecting), probably because I was not at fault? I don't know. Another time when I was considered at fault they wanted to give me an amount that was clearly too low. If you don't like the numbers they come back with, though, find some comparable sales and fight it ... you can usually talk them up.

Ellen - I really want to paint! So excited for you that it's looking great. I had a lot of success with 700 cal down days in May -- and I still use a DD range that sometimes is that much -- so higher DDs can definitely work for some of us.

Thanks JBs for the good wishes on my new job! I get really attached to the teachers wherever I work so I'm sure it will be the same in this new position, but my old job was kind of like extended family and I wasn't quite ready to leave, really. But I do think it was the wise move ... my old school (central administration, not my site) is in a bit of a mess right now. I met some of the people in the new job the other day and they seem very nice. My new job is called Language Arts Specialist, and I'll be working on developing curriculum and supporting students and other teachers with Language Arts, and it is also working one-on-one with at-risk kids who I meet once a week. I have a heart for that population so I'm kind of excited about that.

Dawn, I did interview for a job in R-ville, but that was the one I didn't get. It's a great district.

So happy that you have the heart for the 'special' kids.

Oh, Dawn -- so sorry you will have to do "car shopping." That's never a fun task. I get very analytical about it now, going to CraigsList and other sites to see what vehicles are going for, then selectively looking at a few. We got really lucky with my DH's car that way, but it was a lot of work. I even studied the reviews on KBB.com on various types of cars.

In another week I'll be traveling to grandbabies!! Doctor prescribed a round of steroids so that I can make the trip with my bad shoulder, back, and knees. So I'm all set!

The pharmacist said I had to have the steroid pills with FOOD. How can I do DD's that way? I intended to start taking them Friday until I learned that, because it always takes a week or so for them to take effect. I don't want to miss JUDDDing for three weeks!

They also made an oncology appointment for me for Thursday. I must admit I'm a tiny bit nervous about it, but I try to focus in on the GRANDBABIES!!! (que Mary Poppins) "And then I don't feel so bad!"

How often do you take the steroids? 2x per day? Have an 80 calorie yogurt with the pills. If you do this 2x per day you are only at 160. Light n' fiit Dannon is really good for 80 calories.

Small, DH is very analytical and did the shopping around thing first, too, looking through all the adds and picking just a few to actually look at. He found one he really likes, and if we get the money before it sells, I'm pretty sure that's what we're going to get.

Sorry about the Oncology appointment. I know how stressful those can be! Good luck!

Keira is starting at the gifted school today. Sadly, they don't start until 9:00 a.m. and I wasn't able to take time off from work, so DH will be taking her. Since we're down to one car (he doesn't want to take her to school in his business' patrol car with the logos, lights, etc.), I'm leaving him my car and taking my scooter to work. I love driving my little scooter, but I'm still having some back and neck pain from the accident, so this will be interesting.

DH took Keira to the "meet and greet" on Friday at her new school. She got really excited because the mayor was there! Apparently, the mayor's children go to her school. DH said when the mayor said, "Excuse me," and asked to scoot by Keira in the ice cream line, Keira said (in a very loud stage whisper), "Daddy, THAT'S the MAYOR!" Hehe. She's a bright kid, but doesn't know how to be discreet at all.

Dawn when we were car shopping, we checked the local dealerships online because a lot of them have inexpensive cars people traded in AND they give them some sort of short warranty, which is a good deal.
<-- remembers when $10k got you a luxury car!

Smaller: how about light string cheese? Friggo has them at 50 cals each stick, and the combo of a little fat and protein might work well with the steroids. My mother takes prednisone and she eats cheese with hers so it doesn't upset her stomach.

Dawn, Keira sounds like such a sweetheart!!! I hope she loves her new school & meets lots of wonderful new friends!

Small, oooh, grandbabies!!! Yea, I'd focus on that, too!!! Hugs to you & I would definitely have a bit of food with those steroids. The ladies have some great ideas with the yogurt or string cheese.

Slow, we miss you girl!!! Can't wait til you can pop in more!

Christina, congrats on the new job! I love at risk teachers, they make such a difference! Well, I love teachers, period, b/c they make such a difference, but you know what I mean!

Carly, yay for that day off with your honey! Hope you guys had a great time!

My fruit-flavored kombucha(apricot and ginger) turned out great! Just the right amount of fizz, and the flavor is wonderful. I've bottled the next batch, but I will run out of my present batch before the next one is ready. I need to make bigger batches!

It was good and I wished I had tissues too.

I got the call today from the DA that I have to testify in the felony trial tomorrow at 1:30pm regarding this mess at work. I'm feeling a bit nervous since I will be cross examined. DW is being a real jerk and that is not helping one bit...

I came home to find out DW went out to eat and now she won't pick up her phone. I don't know why she gets like this, because I never treat her badly....
Well it will be a double DD by default since it's 9:50 and I have no food for dinner. I think I'm going to switch back to 5:2 really soon. I was doing EOD for her, but at this point she needs to do it for herself. I really don't need to lose anymore weight.

Enough rambling from me. Good night JBs!

I have been floundering since Friday. The BIG party (double birthday for two of the grand kids...) was here on Saturday, and it was an UD for me...and all there was to eat was pretty much junk. I ate it anyway. I went over on the DD yesterday, and today I ate ok, but it was too cold and rainy to go to the River Running class, so I did not get my exercise in today. Tomorrow is DD, and lifting at the Y day...but I am pretty sore from my last lifting workout. Ug. I hope its better tomorrow.

At least the scale has held...

Ok, end of whining. I actually saw some sunshine today! Its been very unseasonably cold here. In fact, the cold snap has set records. I have lived here in Atlanta for over 35 years and we have never had such cold weather in August.

Ellen, was the party fun? I'm with you on the repercussions of junk AND the cold weather. It's finally warming for us right now but it has been so cold! Normally August is the one month of the year I'm happy b/c it's so hot! Not this year...oy!
