Calories and JUDDD
I'm fairly new to JUDDD, I started on 7/24/13 with a weight of 274, and this morning I weighed in at 269.8, which is a 4.2 pound loss in the last 3 days! Now to my question: How frequently do you have to replug in your stats on the JUDDD calculator to make sure you're not eating too many calories as you lose weight? I'd hate to lose slower because as time goes on, my body needs less calories. Thanks in advance!

Hi Lynn! Wow, you are off to a great start - congratulations! I started my JUDDD journey pretty close to where you are, at 264 and it has been nothing short of miraculous to me. I wish the same for you!
Your question is one we all ask when we're starting out. You'll have to play around and do your own detective work for yourself, but the general wisdom is to keep using the same UD and DD calories for as long as you're losing. The idea is to keep your metabolism running on high and not get it used to lower calories so it wants to conserve. So basically, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Many of us have found that we jumped the gun, recalculated and lowered our calories, and them promptly stalled out or slowed down our losses. Then we raised them back up and started losing again. It doesn't work like this for everyone, but several of us posting here have experienced it. You probably don't want to tweak too much unless you see a true stall, which could be 4 to 6 weeks of no losses or inch losses. Some JBs have seen no loss on the scale but have lost full sizes. Crazy stuff! That's why I say you'll need to watch how your body responds and go from there.
Actually, I haven't reduced my UD calories all that much since starting. I have been averaging from around 1900-2200 pretty regularly and it's working pretty well. I do try and keep my DDs lowish. Works for me. Good luck!

For myself I never had to make a conscious decision to lower my UDs. That happened naturally for me. I just can not eat what I could when I weighed 185. I did make an effort to lower DD calories as I lost and as DDs became effortless. Like Carol said, don't rush it. If you are losing well I would eat the most you possibly can and keep that metabolism revved up!!

I read the book and don't rember any mention of changing
UD and DD calories as your weight loss progresses. Supose you
lose 25 lbs and do the calculations over you may find that your
old DD calorie calculation is a couple of percent higher than your
newer calculation. I doubt this matters. I even saw one study
where people ate 125% of there normal calories on a UD and
50% of normal calories on a DD and lost weight.
