Going AWOL for a while...

Well i've popped by to say bye for now, i'm off to help out on a project down on the Med, in Gibraltar for 6 weeks (fly out on the 31st July). I will still be JUDDDing, doing EOD rotations if i possibly can, although the work will be quite physically demanding and i may need to do higher DDs or possibly do 4:3 - i will have to see how it goes.

I'm not going to have much in the way of internet but will drop in here if i possibly can to see how everyone is getting along. I won't have any access to scales so won't be able to weigh but i have my tape measure and will keep a record of my measurements. I guess if i start to lose my shorts and trousers i'll know i'm losing...

After Gibraltar i'm off to do some walking, all 500 miles of it, loaded up with my backpack :) The good thing being i'm, at the moment, 26 pounds lighter than at the beginning of May which will help my knees a lot! The walk is one of the ancient pilgrim routes and is called the Camino de Santiago and goes from St. Jean de Pied Port in France, up over the Pyrenees and across northern Spain, ending at Santiago de Compostela (where the truly awful, horrific rail crash was two days ago).

I intend on walking between 5 and 15 miles a day with days off to explore places along the route. I'm not sure what i will do eating plan-wise on the walk, i would like a minimum of one fast day a week but i guess it depends on how hungry i get with walking every day

I wanted to say thank you all so much for your very much appreciated support over the last two and a half months, i couldn't have done it without you my lovely JUDDD buds. I  you all :hugs:

Take care all of you and see you late in November xxx

Have a lovely trip Evie. I've read both Shirley Maclean's book and the Paulo Coelho book about the Santigo pilgrimage. Sounds magical!

Wishing you a safe and successful trip and an awesome adventure. What a fabulous time you have in front of you. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!

Sirtain 07-28-2013 09:21 AM

I looked up the route(s) and was interested to read about the symbolism of the scallop shell for the pilgrimage, the many starting points leading to the one destination being represented by the 'rays' of the scallop shell construction.

Kissa 07-28-2013 12:07 PM

I have a scallop shell from where i live to fasten to my backpack :-)

Flossyliz, yes, i've read the Paulo Coehlo book too but not the Shirley Maclean one. I've also watched the Martin Sheen movie The Way - both of these since i decided to do the walk.

Thanks so much everyone for your best wishes. I'm just doing my last minute packing ready for my flight to Gibraltar tomorrow.

Take care everyone :)
