Hi Kimberly! You are such a great role model for heathy living. I stopped doing the super low DD's for a while now and am returning to them as I have been gaining weight this month. It is nice to see so many familiar faces here! Glad that we all know how to eat to get the results we want!

JUDDD has given us the most powerful tool. It is so good to know it is always there for us, even if we slip up occasionally. I keep up the low DDs as I want the health benefits.

Hi Kimberly. It's so nice to see your smiling face show up here again!
I've spent the last three months rebuilding some much needed lean muscle mass myself with resistance training, and now need to get back to losing these last ten pounds of fat, before the fall and the holiday feasting begins.

My first restart fasting day will be tomorrow, Weds. Aug. 7th.

I look forward to sharing the journey towards leanness together. ~ Ann

Sweet Kissa! So nice of you to notice my post and pop in to welcome me back. You're looking great in your updated photo wearing that classy outfit & hat!

BTW, Are you still doing 5:2? I don't see a thread anymore around here for it.

Looking forward to catching up with you & all the other remaining veteran JBs, plus meeting the newbies. I can't believe how many there are in just the last three months!

Kimberly, I've been able to lower my BF% from 28% to 22% in the last 8 wks. My LBM has increased 1.5 lbs. which is considered great for a woman at my age of 54 with hypo-thryoid disease and peri-menopause. Tom Vento is finally getting his e-book published in a hardcopy for a lot less than the program currently costs from his website. I'd suggest waiting to order that instead when it's expected to be released in Dec. In the meantime his book "Body Fat Solution" is great for the basic foundation of BFFM. The kindle version is available from Amazon for less than $15, and there's also a paper back version for not much more than that.

Best wishes on your continued progress! ~ Ann

Gosh Ann that is amazing. Well done on managing an incredible change in your body composition.

I am mostly doing 5:2, though to be honest I just make it work for me. Some weeks it is EOD, others 5:2 or 4:3. I simply use fasting as a wonderful tool for my health and weight.

Nana, did you get your BF tested? I am interested in the book as well...when I get around to exercising again.

Thanks Cindy! The best thing about measuring BF% using the Navy Method calculator is it uses your circumference, so you can go down in % as you lose inches even without the scale dropping in weight. So my usual monthly weight fluctuations don't freak me out as much anymore. For instance, I am currently up 5 lbs. on the scale from my lowest weight due to water retention with my TOM, which is going on a week late tomorrow. I am hoping that by doing the next 6 weeks of 4:3, that I can get my weight below my 140 setpoint and be 20% BF, then switch to 5:2 or 6:1 for long term maintenance. Time will tell.

I use the NAVY Method to calculate my estimated BF% that uses a few body measurements. It tends to over estimates my hourglass body type, because I carry my last stubborn pounds of survival fat in my hips. I find for my needs, to be the easiest, least expensive and most reliable method to track measurable changes, using just a measuring tape for the inches or centimeters to plug into the online calculator. You can find one by just googling Navy Method Body Fat Calculator. BFFM has a link to one on the website, but it may be password protected. IDK? I may have already posted TMI, but HTH!

Kimberly, the Navy Method made me cry! Hehe, it says my BF% is 28.44. The calculator I used also had a link to a hip/height ratio calculator and said I'm apple shaped. I used another calculator a month ago, that said my BF% was 26 and I was an hourglass shape.

First I just have to say...Cindy you look absolutely GORGEOUS!!!

Dawn & gals, make sure to measure your waist after you exhale, just a bit above your navel and below your ribs. Guys measure at the navel. HTH!

Try to keep in mind for us average women, that a couple of % +/- difference between methods is considered an acceptable range for estimating. 20% - 25% is considered Fit. The BMI chart is notorious for overestimating body builders, who have less than 5% BF as obese, so pick your poison (as the saying goes).

Its really easy now Dawn for you with such low body fat to actaully have lil muscles show.. I still have the extra skin that sits at my navel.. drives me nutz too.. Surgery just may be an option for me in the future.. that part of my skin suit is what makes me feel as if i have accomplished nothing some days.. I do my best to not let that time of the month make me feel fat.. but some days,, uggg..
