Combining JUDDD and Atkins/VLC

Hey everyone, I am just looking for some advice. I have been doing JUDDD for about 6 weeks (strict EOD rotations first 5 weeks and not so much this week) I have lost about 15lb's.
I am literally eating whatever I want on my UD's - not watching calories or carbs at all and I am completely fasting on my DD's.

I have an event coming up in 5 weeks and would really like to look my absolute best and would like to lose another 12-14lbs in this time.

I have been thinking of combining JUDDD and atkins induction/VLC for the next few weeks.

Is anyone doing this and also fasting on there down days? - do you think this is wise or should I try and eat something on DD's? Also did you lose weight quicker/slower or the same when you went low carb??

Thank you :D xx

I'm not low carb, but there are others here who are. Perhaps they'll stop in and give you some advice. From what I've seen, though, unless you're carb sensitive, it doesn't seem to make that much of a difference in rate of loss. You could always try it for a couple of weeks and see how you do. There's no problem with fasting EOD with straight JUDDD or LC JUDDD. It's more a matter of whether or not you can completely fast comfortably.

I do LC (most of the time) but that is only because bread and starch makes me bloat horribly. I just feel better on LC.

Thank you for the replies :)

Demonica - do you do very low carb or moderate low carb?

Librarygirl 07-22-2013 11:24 AM

Pami does very low carb and is losing very well. Maybe she will chime in. :)

I know this sounds like a silly question - but do you think I would lose weight quicker if I stuck to the calorie limits - 1836/367 irregardless of low carb??
Or do you not think it would make that much difference?? x

Here's one factor. If you've been doing VLC and you switch to eating carbs within your calorie limits, you WILL gain a few pounds at first, or best case scenario you might just stay the same for a week or two. Your body will be rebuilding its glycogen stores and water retention will increase. That does even out and go away, but if you're in a rush for losses for some reason, I'd stick with VLC until you get past that mark. Just do your calorie limits within VLC. Hopefully you'll see some nice losses that way!

She's not doing LC now, LCG. She wants to start VLC to lose more weight, faster. Sorry if I have that wrong!

I don't know if the LC group loses faster or not, but I do know that very low DDs or nothing but liquids on DDs will definitely speed weight loss.

Certainly sticking closely to those numbers should help. A lot of people lose extra well on lower or fasting DDs. I doubt going VLC would make much difference at this stage.

But weight loss is not linear... You have done extremely well so far though, well done

Hi kitty...I have been doing LC and JUDDD for the past month...keeping DDs to low carbs and 500 calories and UDs to 1650 ish and 20-25 carbs...My rotations are MWF DDs and TTS UDs and I am doing a MD of about 900 cals on Sunday...I am finding this working for me so far and I have lost about 10 pounds in a month. I am finding I am not craving sweets and carbs with this WOE...those always derail me. So, it can be done, however everyone loses at different rates...hard to control that. I have decided that this time I am in it for the long haul and I don't care when I get to goal...this WOE is so worth it and I feel fabulous!! Good Luck!! :)

BTW I am not fasting bc I am not really hungry on DDs and that bit of food keeps me satisfied...I'm not going overboard :) I enjoy eating, so I do it!!!

My ears were ringing (Cindy) :hiya:

I re-started eating LC on April 9, after quitting smoking and deciding that
it was more important to worry about that, than counting carbs/calories.
I had a short vacation in May and when I returned, that's when I started
the EOD rotations. I eat on my DDs if I feel like it; if I don't feel like it, then
I just don't. For example, I had 15 calories today, in an iced coffee (1/2 cup
almond milk). Part of the reason I love my LC/JUDDD combo is that I'm never
"starving" on DDs. In fact, I can do 2 consecutive DDs without batting an eye.
I feel like I lose a little better if I eat on my DDs but most of the time I just
like that I don't have to interrupt my day for something as inconsequential
as 400 calories.

As far as the rate of loss, I can't tell you if it's faster/slower now than it was
when I was only eating LC without the rotations, since I'd just done the first
month as LC, and you know when you start, you get that big water weight
loss, before you start losing "real" weight. As far as whether or not it's likely
that you can lose 12-14 lbs in 5 weeks, I'd say it's possible if you're not close
to goal weight. Average-normal weight loss for any diet is 1% of your total
body weight in any given week. Going by that formula, if your weight is 240-
280 it would be likely that you could lose 12-14 lbs., if you stick to your plan.
(JUDDD is not really known as a quick weight-loss diet. It's more well-known
for healing broken metabolisms and inflammation.)

BTW I've lost 36 pounds now. :weigh:

Very low DDs calories seem to work brilliantly for some people, but I had had my worst losses the month when I kept DDs at 300 or less, so it may not be the key for everyone? :dunno: Whenever I've done nothing but liquids (even all water) I seem to get the same results as I would from a regular DD.

kitty_el 07-23-2013 02:06 AM

Thank you everyone for your replies - I think I am going to try and stick to my UD calorie limit and then try and fast on DD's and see how I get on.
I am going to try and stick to low/moderate carb on UD's but not be to concerned if i eat something a bit higher if I stick to my calorie goal.
And I am going to avoid alcohol for the next 5 weeks - for me this is when I fall off plan - either I have a drink and my will power disappears and I eat junk or I am hungover and need junk the next day lol.

Good luck everyone - you have all done so well so far :D

Kissa 07-23-2013 02:39 AM

Now that is wise, if I didn't drink as much I'd do myself many favours. I even managed a small glass of rosť on yesterday's DD of around 300 cals.:o

Let us know how you are progressing.

Some days I do egg, meat, cheese, lots of fat (especially if I am feeling enormous) and other days I do more moderate carb, stuff with a little more carb count. I love broccoli and cabbage but I have to severly limit myself on any veggies, higher carb count or not, because of majorly uncomfortable bloating.
