Today has gone fairly well...its an UD, which of course seems easier. I am using an app on my iPhone to keep track of calories and exercise. I lifted today, then spent a lot of time in the pool doing water aerobics and swimming. I finally caught up and no longer have a negative balance on calories! My target for the day is 2500, but I am sitting at 1550. I have no idea what else to eat. Not hungry!

I was pretty excited with my lifting. I increased the weight on all of my exercises, and finally got back to where I was before I got really sick in May and missed so much I had to start over. Feels wonderful!

Ellen!! Are you lifting free weights at home? I wonder if you could give me some pointers. I have dumb bells, the highest being 10 lbs., which is heavy to me right now.

I checked it out from my library. That way I could see if I wanted to buy the book. I have not bought it yet

I do lift free weights, but at the YMCA. I do mostly bar stuff...with an Olympic weight bar (45 lbs) plus plates. I used to use dumb bells at home, and used a workout called The Fat Burning Workout by Joyce Vedral. Its a really good program to get started with free weights, and dumb bells. She had you alternate upper and lower body workouts every other day, which is fairly standard. I try and lift three times a week. I do a program called Stronglifts 5x5. Its really for men, but women can do it. He just addresses men mostly because 98% of the folks who do it are men. His program is online and free, but you have to have a bar and plates to do it properly. And its probably best to have a squat cage, which is why I go to the Y. The goal of the program is to lift heavy, and keep progressing higher. I also love using kettle bells. I found lots of stuff online for using them, and videos on utube too. Ok, I love talking about weight lifting, as you can probably tell! What do you want to accomplish with the weights? Do you want to do strength training, sculpting, or cardio, or all of it?

Nice! I'm just on the other side of the 85! Small world indeed.

It is amazing how not hungry the UD's are after 36 hours of low calories. Exercising is awesome! I know some say it tends to slow or stall weight loss but for me it's important. I want to my body to be tight and toned once the excess fat comes off and for me that means maintaining or increasing my current muscle mass. Slow and steady all the way to LEAN!

Today is a DD for me, and it seems to be going fairly well. Wednesdays are open pool days here, where I invite all the young moms from church to come swim with their kids. Its always a fun day and we never know who will show up. Today was nice weather, so we had a good crowd. The company, and being outside has helped me not hang out in the kitchen thinking about food. With all the swimming I have done I am at a calorie deficit for the day. I have my dinner planned, and should be able to stay within my budget for the day!

My kitchen scale arrived today...yay! I have been measuring all kinds of things! I like it! I hope it helps me to be more accurate in my calorie counting.

I'm sure the kitchen scale will help accuracy. I still can't eye ball well. Somethings I would totally over-estimate and other things would be way under. I also use measuring spoons a lot. I rarely using measuring cups though. I tend to weigh out stuff that may also work in measuring cups, but depending how loosely/ tightly you pack stuff into a measuring cup can make a huge difference. I can only pack so much into a tsp whether it's liquid or powder

I will never understand volume measurements in a recipe I have no understanding of a cup of broccoli and whether that's small or large florets and instructions for scooping and swooping flour drive me scatty. I even prefer to weigh water, oil and so forth.

I hope that you settle in well with your scales, Ellen. And that sounds a very convivial and friendly way to spend a day.

This morning, after a pretty successful DD (only went over 160 cal, but with my amount of exercise yesterday, my net cals were -88! ) I am down 4 pounds this morning! Doing a little happy dance.... That is four pounds in less than a week! And it felt fairly easy. The best part is my fasting blood glucose was really good...and my highest reading all day yesterday was 130. This is a GREAT improvement. I am pretty happy.

Hi friends! I am brand new to JUDDD. I've made it through 2 DDs and am on my second UD today. So far, so good! I am hoping this is the answer for me! I lost 50 pounds about 4 years ago through WW and the "simply filling" plan (called core back then). I kept all but 10 pounds off for years but my weight has been slowly creeping up again and nothing I do seems to take it back off. I'm 14lbs over goal, and while that's not a lot, I've been spinning my wheels trying to get it off for over a year (lots of calorie counting and exercising). I'm tired of "doing everything right" with no results. I'm ready to shake things up and get to where I want to be. I'm crossing my fingers that JUDDD can help me get there!

Hi Elphie! Welcome from another newbie!

Today has been loads of fun! I went to Costco and tasted a bunch of stuff...and did not feel one bit guilty! haha! And after using my calorie counter and guesstimating the calories, I still have a healthy amount left for dinner. I got a beautiful package of strawberries...yum! And who knew they were so low in calories? Yep, definitely

Ellen I am so delighted with your loss, WTG lady!

Welcome Elphie, so good to see you here. We pride ourselves on courtesy, sympathy and... butt kicking here, lol.

You will find so much support here and, although doing it right is, of course, optimum, doing almost right seems to work with this wonderful plan.
