Some DDs are just hungry. It could be hormonal, or just that your body didn't get enough of a nutrient or protein or something the day before. Or it could be nothing at all! I doubt you're seeing a pattern here, so try to relax and just trust JUDDD and your body.
Wow that is a lot of ifs I wish my body came with a manual.

I totally understand. I have been blessed with easy DDs so the hungry ones are very noticeable! It's unusual, though, so hang tough!

So I'm pretty sure I have found my JUDDD energy...it is a DD for me, and I had to walk in our city's parade with my office that I work in. It was HOT!! The truck we were supposed to walk beside went too fast and I ended up running for awhile to catch up to it...giving out treats to the kids on the sides of the road watching made me fall behind. Anyway....I did catch up and I felt great!! I never would have had the energy to walk, let alone run 3 weeks ago!! We had pizza and ice cream cake at the office after....except me, I had a salad and diet pop...YAY me!! I can have pizza tomorrow...YAY JUDDD

Today is a DD for me. It seemed to be getting challenging, but I had a meeting that intefered with my usual lunch time. I am currently 20 minutes post lunch and my tummy is telling me it is not hungry, even though my brain is trying to talk me into more food. I can eat more in 5 hours or even tomorrow, whichever I want! Go JUDDD!

CookwithMe65 - I wanted to respond to your note on the Daily Weigh-in thread: July Daily Weigh-In

We're not simple input/output devices that live in a wholly predictable environment: if we were, weight loss wouldn't be the problem that it is. There are tens of thousands of regulatory processes in our bodies that influence our overall weight and shape: we can only influence a few of these so when we do, we tend to need an overall coherent strategy and that's what JUDDD confers.

Your weigh-ins are in-line with what you'd expect from your reports about the extra sodium from your dad's surprise snack. Try to weigh-in at the same time so you can give yourself decent comparison points.

When we make the effort to identify a weight-loss program and put a lot of effort into it, we want to see a rapid outcome for all of the energy we've invested. JUDDD doesn't work like that for some people. Adi comes to mind, she regularly says that she had no early losses at all and lost slowly but consistently - look at her now.

JUDDD works by changing your body's housekeeping and well as the overall calorie reduction by cycling the calories on alternate days. As you know from the book, research by Drs Johnson and Mottson (?) indicates that we need a good 2 weeks or more of rotations to activate the SIRT1 gene regulation that they believe triggers the beneficial changes that we need for weight loss. If we start tweaking before this happens, then this process may be delayed or might not happen. (This is very broadly speaking.)

If the scales are irritating you, then Dr Johnson advises you to weigh once a week and then only after a DD. The other piece of advice that is routinely given, and routinely ignored (add me to the iist of people who didn't do this but wish they had) is to measure yourself at certain points and track your inch loss. A substantial number of people (and I have FlossyLiz in mind here) report that they lose nothing on the scale for a period of weeks but have quite astonishing inch losses.

As Kissa/Cindy says: Relax. Rotate. Rejoice. We have examples here of people for whom JUDDD has worked - there are times when we have to trust the process.

Hello! Question: I have reached my goal of 135, well I'm 134 but I'm sure it'll even out. Now I'm wondering if I can do 5:2 and maintain. In doing 5:2, do I eat 500 cals on my DDs or is it 60% according to the JUDDD calculator?
Thanks for your help!

When I did 5:2 for 4 mos I had DDs on M and W and ate under 300 on both days and ate what ever on the other 5 days but roughly between 1,100-1,900 while my UD # is 1580. My weight bounce consistently between 124-127. I went back to eod about a week and a half ago to try and lose a bit more.

I used the 20% on DDs with 5:2 and ate at my UD limit (with some higher days) for UDs. I continued to lose for a couple of weeks, but then it leveled off.

Thanks ladies for responding. I'll be trying 5:2 next week, using my DD/UD numbers (more or less). I hope this works for me! Hoping to maintain between 134-136.

Today is my DW's special day and JUDD will not be thought of this day. I know I will regret tomorrow but this day only comes once a year.

At least your special day was a UD so no reason to feel too guilty. I know Woodbury must have been a blast.

Just finished reading as many posts as I could...my poor brain is swimming....

Today is my second DD, and I am starving! I have fasted before, and it usually takes me a few days to get into the groove, so I am not surprised. I need to figure out something to do to distract myself until I can justify going to bed!

I usually eat fairly low carb to control blood sugar, so it is probably also a bit of readjusting to less fat and protein as well.

I don't have any burning questions right now, but I am sure I will.

Does everyone count calories real carefully? I did not get a sense of it being really recommended in the book....he said to eat normally on UDs, but you all recommend counting calories on UDs too? I used a lower activity level when I used the calculator on the JUDDD site...it says my spread is 2503/501. I am a weight lifter, and do water aerobics almost every day. Does this sound reasonable to you all?

Thanks!

Yes, you definitely have a UD number...and that's a good one for your ilifestyle. I've always done low carb, so it was a bit of a culture shock to start counting calories, though most people's UD is generous enough to allow whatever you really want. I had to really watch my butter, cheese, MEAT!, salad dressings...gotta flip the mind switch for sure, when you're used to having bacon and eggs for brekkies and grabbing cheese for a snack...

and my head still spins, after almost 4 months, when i see how many calories are in things I considered lo-carb "safe foods"...but I just wasn't losing anymore, and calories, as much as i hate the idea, are the answer for my crappy metabolism. JUDDD cuts calories, but still allows satisfying cravings, within calorie limits...but if you blow it one day, it doesn't take days to get back in the groove...just start over tomorrow!

Does this sound reasonable to you all?

Thanks!
That UD number sound awfully high. I don't know your age, height, weight, but 2500 is really high even with moderate activity, which we don't ordinarily recommend picking at the beginning. Was the 2503/501 at 20%? I would hate to see you sabotage losses by purposely eating too high on UDs. I'm 37, 5'2" and 125. I use 1580/300. My fitbit said I burned 1500 so far today (at 8:30pm) and that was with 40 minutes of biking/elliptical work out. Today is a DD and so far I've had 1 cup of coffee for 35 calories so today I've burned quite a bit more than I've eaten, but on an UD if I don't work out I will not burn that 1580 that the calculator gives me. So, what I'm trying to say is unless you know your workout burns quite a lot I would not add in a lot of extra calories for activity level. HTH.
