We went to see Blackfish yesterday and it is a beautiful, thought-provoking and moving film.

Yes, a terrible wrong is being perpetrated and must be exposed and stopped.
However, the humanity and compassion of the handlers was deeply moving.
The info from the cetacean specialists was mind-blowing.
The scenes with the wild orcas are beautiful and awe-inspiring on the big screen.

Do go and see it this week, while you can!

You are right Slow! I have a bunch of super-soft sage green yarn that I've been planning on making into a throw, but so much of the year here in Arizona is so warm, I don't like to have the partially completed project laying on me at all. But even right now, in the heart of summer, it would be welcome on DDs. I may have to start that project after all!

Hello, everyone! I had my doctor appointment yesterday. He was pleased I was doing the Alternate Day diet, as he has studied the benefits of fasting, and we actually talked about it at my last appointment a few months ago. He lowered my insulin dose in half. I won't be able to start that until I can get the prescription filled, but will take it in today and they will order the new dosage. He told me he would rather I have slightly higher numbers and less insulin so I can lose easier. Yay! I got to do lab work because I just did not eat before I went. It was a UD, and I came home and celebrated with a gourmet sandwich a friend had given me the day before...I rolled on into other things I had on hand, that I had told myself I had to wait for the DD day before. I think I ate pretty stupid all day, but am back on track with a DD today. Its also my daughter's birthday dinner tonight at Red Lobster, and I want to save all my calories to be able to have a DD meal with the family. With fish, I think I can do it if I am careful.

CAROL: Do you knit or crochet? I knit...I always start projects, and take forever to finish them. Except baby blankets. I try and finish them before the baby arrives! Which reminds me, I have a new grandbaby due the end of September...I better go buy the yarn and get going on her blanket.

I am off to the Y to lift...I hate doing it on a DD but yesterday turned into a circus and I never had the chance to run over and do my lifting.

Anybody read The Metabolism Miracle by Diane Kress? I just got the book yesterday and am wondering if her theories bear out. She seems to have explanations for those of us who don't get the same results from some otherwise good plans. Her plan to reset the metabolism inbolves 8 weeks of strict liver/pancreas resting LC, followed by 8 or more weeks of moderate LC followed by maintenance. Eating every 5 hours is important for the liver to avoid it releasing glycogen. I have not yet figured out if there is a minimum calorie requirement that would make JUDDD DDs impossible. Anybody know or have tried to mesh a similar plan with JUDDD?

Very exciting that your doctor is in support of you doing this WOE! And the adjustment of your medications is terrific! Wow! Have a wonderful time with your family and Happy Birthday to daughter.

I mostly crochet. I do know how to knit, very basically, but have never had much luck with it. I'd like to learn to really do it though. Maybe someday? Congrats on the new grandbaby - he/she will be here before you know it!

I haven't read it Cici, but I'm interested in what you find out. Please share with us as you make your way through the book.

I worked this morning and soon I will be off for a mani/pedi! I'm kind of tired now after being very energetic at my training. I think that coincided with eating half a turkey wrap a noon. I'm really better off if I eat later on UD, but the agency that hosted my training put out wraps at noon and I didn't want to be rude. The last 2 trainings fell on DDs so I didn't eat then.

Energy.... calling all energy... please report immediately!

However........I tried on a 12 dress and it fit! It was in no way flattering to me, but it wasn't the size, just the cut was weird on me. I also bought a cute little skirt in a 12/14 and it totally fits and I'm so excited! it was $14 and can definitely be taken in when the time comes, so I didn't feel bad about spending the money. I never thought I'd be in 12s or 14s yet. I'm psyched!

I'll try and get a decent picture of me in the skirt and post for you guys to see.
Well, here's my new skirt. I still don't have any cute shoes to go with it, so barefoot it is (my preferred state).

There was a whole thread on here a couple of years ago and then some one recently tried to start one. Go to alternate diets.

There was a large group at one time. Diane, herself, was involved. Then she started her own site and wanted payment for everything. People lose inches first as you lose fat, but the scale doesn't show it as much. I think JUDDD works in the same way and why inches are a better measurement than the scale. You will be able to find info. She also had a Facebook group. Don't know if that is still around or not.

There is a pretty good recipe thread on here for MM.

I am the opposite of you! I just don't seem to get the hang of crochet, but I can knit! I have heard from friends who do both that crochet is better because your active stitch is always on the needle, so you are not likely to drop a stitch like in knitting. This new grand baby is a girl...so I need to find something pink! Or at least girly....

I just checked and Red Lobster has a light menu that is reduced calories. Yay! I can easily eat close to my goal with the remaining calories I have for the day. I am drinking unsweetened ice tea to try and get my stomach to shut up until dinner...I only have two hours to go! Wish me luck! I just got back from the Y where I did my weight lifting...and it made me very very hungry.

Good afternoon ladies,
This is my 6th day.
What do you do with the odd day?
My UPP days always must be Tues,Thurs,Sunday.
Mon,Wed.Friday are DD's what about Saturday?
This is to accommodate my DH as these are the days we eat out.
Appreciate your input.
Thus far it is working well.

Thanks ladies! I was nervous about posting the picture. I hate pictures! You've made me feel more comfortable.

Wow Slow, I don't know about Junoesque. I've never thought of myself as imposing, other than just sheer size, but that's shrinking, thank heavens! But posture does take off 10-15 pounds, so I've been trying really hard to stand up straight and suck in and push out the appropriate bits.

Barbo, you can have one day a week as a MD (medium day) which is the average of your UD and DD calories, aka 60% on the calculator. You would want to do this after a DD, so it would go DD-MD-UD. Or you could have 2 UDs in a row each week, although that might slow your losses down a bit. It's up to you and what works for your life. I'm so glad you're having good luck so far!

I love your blog, by the way! Yum!

Well, I always did EOD during WLM, but you can make Saturday a mid-day (MD) which equals 60% on Dr. J's calculator.

I had terrible luck with MDs, but some people use them all the time and have had great success.

Heehee. I DID see a picture of someone using a twined rug as a bedcover in the book from the library. I'm sure it would keep you toasty warm. The last small rug I made (about 26" x 40") used the equivalent of 20 t-shirts, so a bed-sized one would be pretty heavy. If we ever move up North, I will definitely do it!

Looking good in that skirt, Carol. It is always nice to feel good in what we are wearing.

I do all kinds of crafts, mostly fiber-related: knitting, crochet, quilting, embroidery, twining, scrapbooking, beading, collage, needlepoint. Someday I want to learn how to tat.

Just now realized I missed a bunch of posts earlier!

Carol, I love the skirt! You look great in it!

My dinner at Red Lobster turned into dinner at Olive Garden. Seems the greeter at Red Lobster was rude to the birthday girl, and they also said it would be an hour wait. At 4:30? So before we got there they moved next door to Olive Garden. It was not easy navigating their much more caloric menu. I ate half of my entree, and brought half home for lunch. I tried to fill up on salad, and avoided the breadsticks, except for one. Should not have touched it... Total for the day was much higher than I wanted...so I guess I call it a MD, and move on. Its too bad, because at Red Lobster I could have had fish, which is MUCH lower in calories and probably been under 600. As it worked out, I was closer to 900.

Since yesterday was an UD for me, what would be best to do tomorrow? DD? UD?

Thanks Carol and all the gals on here

I understand now about MD's I am at 800 cals. today so I shall think of it
as MD. Tomorrow UPP (and away) I am going to weigh in on Monday as
usual and I hope and pray for a loss. I think I did pretty good for a newbie.

You look good in that skirt! No shoes? hey it's summer.
Glad you girls liked my message board. I have another one floating around
the web called Barbo's Diet Kitchen. It was when I was a W Watcher and also
for any other type of weight loss plan. There are some interesting recipes
over there. It's not an active board but you can get the recipes, at least
I think so. I gave up on any way except LC and now trying to get the last
20 lbs. off.

About knitting and crocheting. We have a group called "Knit Wits" and we knit
baby layettes for the US. Marine base and Camp Pendleton, Ca. We also knit
watch caps to go beneath the helmets. Cooling scarves are another of the
items we make. It's a little bit to do for our armed forces. They look so young
and are sacrificing so much. We gals are about 12 and we are on summer
hiatus, we shall meet again, once a month in each other's homes for lunch,
chat and sharing our knitting projects. Right now I'm trying to teach myself
how to knit a baby sweater.

Ellen good going

If you did 900 at Olive Garden, I would like to pin a medal on you

That is such a difficult place to stay on plan.
Last time I was there I had salad, hold the croutons, and they made me
a chicken dish with I think it was spinach and hold the pasta. It was ok.
The temptations are just too great and the variety too limited.

I'm tempted to say, just keep to your rotation and make it an UD.

It doesn't sound out of bounds for a higher-end DD/MD (an MD is 60% of your UD kcal count). These things happen and this isn't a 'I must catch it back' WOE to snatch back calories. 900kcals isn't really enough to set you up for a DD and I'm wary because of your blood sugar stability.

So, if you can be comfortable with it, particularly because you're in induction and you'll also be changing your insulin dosage soon, just continue your normal rotation.

Just wanted to express how delighted I am that your doctor was so co-operative about your insulin dosage.

Ellen, great news about your enlightened doctor!

Carol, you look fabulous!
Well done with the bargains. This losing weight thing makes for exhilarating wardrobe clearing-out - but the cost mounts up. We're worth it though!!

Sirtain, tatting is easy and very pretty. However, if you discover a mistake from a way back, you have to unpick it, instead of just pulling the thread for it to unravel. That's a real pain!

I "did an Adi" this morning. I overslept and came flying downstairs, late for an appointment, only to find DH in the kitchen looking bemused. I thought it was Monday today!

Ellen, I agree, I would just keep today an Up Day.

Flossyliz- do you do shuttle tatting, or needle-tatting?

I need a full-length mirror. I haven't had one in ages and didn't want one because I didn't want to see myself lol. Now I want to see and make informed decisions before leaving the house. I just went to the store with bf and saw myself in my loose shorts and huge tee shirt in the glass window and I looked like I was still 200 lbs. Ugh, not flattering at all.

Thanks S but Sure

No insulin, just metformin 2x per day.

I'll take your advice. You don't think 900-1000 is good for my UP Day?
My height is 4' 10 3/4" and I am a turtle Today is an UP day and I will
finish out at around 1,000 cal.

It is so good to hear that a full length mirror is actually wanted by one of us.
That is a real boost in confidence. To actually want to see how we are doing.

Everyone have a good Sunday. Will be weighing in tomorrow.
It's always a tense moment for me.
