Great advice Dawn. I will definitely do that. I'm excited and "askeered" as you would say, all at the same time!

I saw an episode of The Biggest Loser where they had to do some kind of task with the weight they had lost strapped to them.

I feel a lot better now after losing 70 pounds. I used to nap a lot, and I don't know if it's because my sleep at night wasn't as good, but I rarely nap now. Exercise has also made me feel physically better/stronger. I'm still not a ball of energy, but I feel much better overall. I wonder what I'll feel like when I get closer to goal?

Carol, I highly recommend shopping for clothes even if you aren't going to buy anything, just to see how things fit. Just this week I had some time to kill while I was waiting for my son and fit snugly in a size that didn't fit at all a month ago. I didn't buy anything, though ... need to wait until my current clothes are much looser if not downright baggy and I shouldn't spend the money right now either.

p.s. once you know the size you really are, you can compare from there.

That sounds so awesome and like great fun. I'm not sure how my back would fare, but I'd definitely like to try it... jealous!!!!

I know what you mean about being kinda scared. I definitely agree with Dawn- bring everything into the trying room in a size smaller than you think. I still have to do this and almost always need the smaller size. That is because today's 4 is bigger than a 4 was 10 years ago so that still confuses me.

When I went shopping on my birthday I saw a lot of stores with 00P or XXSP. These look ridiculous on the tag and you think who is a 00P, but the truth is it's really what a 2P use to be.

Carol, I'm with you. It's so hard for me to spend money on clothes when I'm still in the middle. I love the idea of shopping at GoodWill and Salvation Army. I wouldn't worry about spending a couple of bucks!

Dawn I'm so psyched about your very inspiring weight loss. You look TINY! I wish you felt better and could realize the healing from losing all that weight. I hope one day I will get to your weight and be able to look back on my all time high.

I can't even imagine backpacking the amount of weight I've lost. I can tell you, gaining back a total of 45 lbs after this second surgery has been gruesomely hard. My muscles feel so shaky at times! So I'm just literally holding my breath as I pass the time between the regain and getting back to 218lbs. I honestly don't think I could carry another 60-70 lbs. I can't even pick up a 40lb sack of dog food!

Thanks for the input on shopping guys. I'm definitely getting excited about it. I do occasionally pop into the Goodwill store and have bought maybe 4 or 5 items there, a couple were even new with tags. I probably need to go more often since their inventory really depends upon what gets donated (some of my old stuff is there!).

There's a Dress Barn real close and I think I'll go in there just for fun. I haven't had a dress in years and I'm getting the bug to wear one soon. But like I said, I'm hoping not to spend money on something that I won't be able to wear soon. I'll try and watch for things that can definitely be altered down if I just can't live without sometime brand new!

I've been catching up on this thread. We're missing some JBs!
For instance, does anyone know if Yennie is OK? We've not heard from her for a month.

Good morning. Thanks for the warm welcome back. The support here is wonderful. My first DD was not stellar. More of a mid day. So am going for a liquid fast today which will set my schedule so my DDs are the busiest and I think that no food will be easier than just a little. So it is off to the races. Hope you all have a great day.

Welcome back CiCi!!! Love your avi!

Slow. Doesn't that just suck honey??? So what are you going to do about the body fat assessment? Did you get a DEXA scan and is that how they measure it?

Good morning all. We're off to spend the day with the great niece and go to lunch for her birthday. Very excited to spend time with the fam.

Today's gonna be a medium day...Mexican Food. I'm not very tempted right now, although my tune may well change. It's my favorite Tex-Mex restaurant and we haven't been out to eat in months!!! I'm struggling with a pretty vicious fungus-amongus (a leftover from chemo) that's run amok. So my appetite is pretty sketchy right now and the only thing that sounds good is tortilla soup without the tortillas. So it might not be so bad after all!

Talk to you all later. Hope you have a great day!

Today is a UD for me. After my river workout yesterday my net calories for the day were -620. I ended up again with about 650 calories for the day instead of the 500 I was shooting for. Since the scale was down another pound today, I am not going to worry about it.

I had another blood sugar crash last night, and it reminded me that its going to be a challenge and take some tweaking for me. But as long as that scale is moving in the right direction, I can smile about it all.

Just back from a bike ride with my Honey. I'm glad we got out there before it got too hot. Investigated a new part of the trail. I want to take a picnic out there sometime- it is so nice.
Now dashing off to transport the kids to their various activities. Then I'm going to be cooking up a storm for eating on tomorrow's Up Day: Shakshuka and a mess of greens. Plus I have broth bubbling in the crockpot, so the kitchen is going to be smelling FABULOUS!

I had to look it up. From Wikipedia:

Shakshouka (Arabic: شكشوكة‎; Hebrew: שקשוקה‎) (also shakshuka) is a dish of eggs poached in a sauce of tomatoes, chili peppers, onions, often spiced with cumin.[1] It is believed to have a Tunisian origin.[2]

If you google the recipe you will find many different variations. The one I use has bell peppers, onions, tomatoes, garlic, cumin, and paprika. Sauteed then simmered, and zipped with an immersion blender before adding the eggs. So wonderfully addictive, and you can almost feel the vitamin C coursing through your body afterwards.

That dish sounds very interesting, Sirtain. I'm afraid that I'm mostly traditional southern in my cooking.

I was a member of a weight loss forum about 10 years ago online. I was doing WW then, and lost a total of about 12 lbs. I didn't, however, have nearly as much to lose then lol. What I remember most was a prominent member who shares my name, and who was a huge proponent of weight training while losing. She was asked frequently to post a "rant" that obviously was a copy and paste of something she had said many times...I can't recall the details, but she disagreed wholeheartedly with waiting until you had lost weight to start weight training. And, she was definitely a "poster child" for her way of thinking. She was 40 at that time and had lost 100 lbs and had not an ounce of visible loose skin (and she had pictures of herself in a sports bra and bike shorts). Just something I've been thinking about since Slow posted her results....I have to admit that my tendancy to laziness when it comes to fitness always rejoices when I hear that exercise impedes weight loss, but I have a niggling fear that it's not true.

Oh my gosh Sirtain! I never knew! I make similar (have never added the cumin or paprika)!! But I completely agree. Baked eggs are the bomb!

We grew up making Mulligan Stew cuz it was a way to make bacon go far!

Basically: It's tomatoes, onions, peppers sautéed with 2 strips of bacon and some garlic, salt and pepper until everything is thick and bubbly. We would make wells into it and oven poach eggs in it. Back then Mom would serve it over a slice of toast. And that was a way to feed 4 people on 4 eggs a few tomatoes and 2 strips of bacon and 4 slices of toast!

I'm totally trying this on my next DD dinner on Monday!!

Cindy that so interesting to hear about the member from your other board. I've heard that soooo much from so many different people. And of course we are learning more and more about how important resistance training is with reigning in insulin resistance! I will confess, I am not an exercise lover. But I recognize that my relationship with it must change if I want to be healthy!

Dawn hon, thanks for looking up the Shakshouka info!!

It's cardio exercise that research studies indicates to be a factor in scales that don't move. Nonetheless, the researchers usually stress that such activity can have a positive impact on insulin sensitivity, cardiovascular health, mental health, lung capacity etc. it just doesn't have a reliable impact on weight loss (as commonly understood).

I'm not a poster child for it but I strongly agree with weight training while you're losing your body fat. I have been weight training but I don't perform compound lifts (e.g., ones that involve more than one muscle group, such as standing and performing a deadlift) because of my mobility issues. If people don't have such restrictions then I can not over-stress the importance of weight/resistance training.

(I'm going to talk to my trainer and gym about whether it's possible to rig up some sort of tether in the weights cage so that I try out some form of compound lifting.)

Everything I have read says weight training is really helpful with weight loss. Muscle burns more calories resting then fat. It is muscle that revs the metabolism. If you have muscle you are going to be burning more calories constantly... Since I started weight lifting I have not lost a lot of weight, but I look like I have. Friends keep asking me how much I have lost, and its funny when I have to tell them I actually have gained due to new insulin therapy that I had not fully adjusted to. I do compound lifting, like Slow mentioned...deadlifts, squats, bench press, overhead press and barbell rows. I FEEL so much better...stronger, less clumsy...I want to encourage anyone and everyone to try it.

I just ordered PB2...both plain and chocolate. Am trying to decide if trying the Kims Magic Pops is worth what I am going to have to pay to get them. Are they? Or is there something like them that fits the bill?

Today is DD, and as usual, I am having all kinds of trouble staying at 500. I thought I was doing ok, but had a blood sugar crash, and had to eat something. Am up to about 700. When you all do a MD, how do you figure the calories, and do you do that as a part of the regular rotation, what do you do before and after?

The shakshuka sounds so tasty! Unfortunately, I can't have eggs. Next time I feel like cheating tho....

I don't know about the magic pops but some people seem to really love them. Carly often mentions eating them on her DDs. Did you know they sell PB2 at Walmart? I found it there recently.

A MD is usually followed by a UD. Trying to do a MD then a DD might set you up for failure. It's usually between a DD and a UD, and the calories are 60% on the JUDDD calculator. I recommend just going ahead and doing two UDs. You can go back to rotations after that.

I get Suzie's Thin Cakes at Whole Foods. I think they're similar, though I haven't tried the Magic Pops. It's an option if you want to try them without having to order a ton.

I need to start lifting, but I'm afraid of the free weights and don't feel comfortable using the machines at my gym. I'm just a big scaredy-cat!

In other news, it's 105* currently, which is hot, but not even remotely as hot as it can get. I went to get an iced tea and realized I left my breath spray in the car. It's in a plastic container and MELTED all over my center console. Lovely! At least my car smells minty fresh, with a hint of cooked plastic.

Mint with a hint of melty plastic....devine! That'll be a fun one to clean up.

After a week of tauntingly gray cloudy days, it finally rained here. I mean rained, not just a few splatters of water here and there. The high must not have topped 87* or so. Fantastic, and unheard of during the day in July in Phoenix. The downside is the humidity makes me look like a blond Rosanne Rosannadanna. If anyone remembers that far back!
