No plan

So far, I've had iced tea at home and coffee at church

LoCarbGal 06-30-2013 09:39 AM

Another DD where I'm debating what to do. So far it's been:

B: Huge glass of iced tea, about to have my Coffee/HWC

I may keep with my fat fast DD, or I may go renegade and have a chobani for lunch and a big salad for dinner.

L: Chobani Key Lime Crumble Yogurt (180)

I've had 4.5 free days in a row while on vacation. I actually missed DDs! (what?) Ready for a nice low one today. No specific plan except keeping it low, with lots of beverages.

This is what happens when you don't have a plan. Friends of mine were on
vacation last week, and posted on FB that they were eating Dill Pickle Soup.
I found a recipe that resembled what she described and set to low-carbing
it. Well, when I finished, it only had 45 calories per cup! I'm still learning to
use the glucomannan powder, so the seasonings seem a little unbalanced,
but OMG! I'm going to make this again (and again!)!

So I ate 2 cups of it -90 cals.; 5g carbs, net

I'd love to see your recipe for that Dill Pickle Soup! I've never heard of such a thing!

Evidently this is of Polish origin. I hadn't heard of it either, until my oldest
friend (our dads served in the Navy together; we were born 9 months apart-
I tease her about how her parents have known me longer than they've known her)
ate this on vacation in Montana. I looked for a recipe that sounded like what she
was describing and settled on this one at allrecipes:

2 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
7 cups chicken broth
1/2 cup finely chopped dill pickles
2 tablespoons dill pickle juice
2 tablespoons white sugar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons minced garlic
4 teaspoons onion salt
1 teaspoon dill weed
1 teaspoon curry powder
1/2 teaspoon white pepper
2 bay leaves
2 cups warm milk

I used glucomannan, bouillon cubes in water, Splenda and almond milk-
everything else stayed the same. I corrected my recipe and next time I
will try:

2 tablespoons butter
1 Tablespoon minced garlic
7 chicken bouillon cubes
2 1/2 cups water
1/2 cup pickle juice
1 1/2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 1/2 teaspoons onion powder
1 1/2 teaspoons dill weed
1 1/2 teaspoons curry powder
1/2 teaspoon white pepper
3 bay leaf
2 drops liquid Splenda
4 cups water
1/2 cup dill pickles
2 teaspoons glucomannan powder
2 cups almond milk

Melt butter in a med-large saucepan. Let it just begin to brown. Add garlic and saute over low heat until softened.
Add pickle juice, 2 1/2 cups water, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, dill weed, curry powder, pepper, bay leaves, and Splenda. Stir and bring to a boil; reduce to simmer.
Meanwhile, add 4 cups water to blender container. With blender running, lightly sprinkle glucomannan powder into water. Once gluc is incorporated, add pickles and blend until chopped to your liking.
(My friend's soup had whole slices of pickle in it)
Add pickle mixture to pot, stir well and bring to a boil; reduce to simmer. Let simmer for another 5 minutes.
Remove from heat; stir in almond milk.
Remove bay leaves and serve.

(TONS of sodium! but that's cuz I used bouillon cubes and 1/2 cup pickle juice)
