Wow, I just saw this...thanks, you guys!!!

I wasn't going to share this here, but I had breast cancer surgery on June 27. The tumor was small as it was found on a mammogram and was completely removed. I got the very good news (on my birthday) that the pathology report showed that the lymph nodes were clear. I feel very, very blessed!!!

This is such a wonderful supportive group and I really appreciate you JUDDD buds!!!

Oh wow Shirl, that is a great birthday present! I'm so happy everything is clear! Will you have to have any radiation or hormone blockers or anything? My mom went through almost exactly the same thing a year ago, and is doing great. I'm sorry you had to go through the scary stuff and the surgery, but sooooo happy you're fine!

I will have radiation. I had one treatment while I was having surgery. Now I will have to heal for about 4 weeks and then have three weeks of radiation. No chemo, though. I don't know about the hormone blockers, but I suspect I will be taking those.

So glad your mom is doing great! I have been hearing about many women who are doing well after breast cancer.

I hope you have as easy a time as my mom did with the radiation. She had internal Brachytherapy twice a day for 5 days. Amazing what they can do these days!

Please let us know how you're doing as your treatment progresses!

Saw the doctor who did the surgery today for my first post-op appt. He said everything is looking good. I am very bruised, but I guess that will go away. If all goes as planned, I will start my three weeks of radiation treatments on July 31.

I'm so glad to hear that Shirl! These next few weeks of healing will see that you're ready for that next phase of radiation. I sure hope you'll let us know how the radiation goes. You're going to be fine!

Now I found out I do have to see the medical oncologist, but the surgeon still doesn't think chemo will be necessary. This stuff feels like it has taken over my life...all the appointments, and then the radiation treatments still to come.

I think the medical oncologist is normal Shirl. My mom sees her surgeon, radiation oncologist and medical oncologist every 4 to 6 months. Med oncologist will probably be the one to prescribe any estrogen blockers if needed. Hopefully no full on chemo for you!

My mom's lumpectomy was early August last year, and she feels completely back to normal now. I know she sees her scars every day, but she says she doesn't really think about it much except during the cycles where all her follow up visits happen - usually within about a month of each other. But we were just talking, and all last summer she felt like you - it was consuming her life. But after the radiation, your doctor visits will get more spaced apart and things will get more back to normal.

Huge to you!! It feels like it's consuming your life right now because IT IS!!! It's not only all the appointments, but that you have to THINK about it all the time. It has to be terribly exhausting and stressful for you. Are there support groups in your area that might be helpful for you to go to? It might be nice to have non-family in the area to vent to and get ideas from...? XOXO

I did get a call setting up the date with the medical oncologist today and they told me that all the patients see that doctor, so you're right, just normal.

I wondered if those scars would go away...they look pretty awful still. I'm not very concerned about that, though...not a big deal in the whole scheme of things!!!

I'm sure there must be support groups, but I haven't sought any out, at least not yet. I am a firm believer in groups...I am not the same person I would have been without them! (12-step recovery...a life-time process).

It's amazing to me how many women I've been able to talk with who have had breast cancer...women I know really well. Their support means a great deal to me and they're wonderful about checking in with me.
