Yesterday at church

was the first time anyone mentioned that I looked like I'd lost weight.
Took 30 lbs. to be noticed- or about 12% of my starting weight.

How much did you lose before someone noticed?

Congrats Pami! You're doing fabulous. KUTGW! I'm sure that felt great to hear.

It's so funny what people notice and what they don't. A few people at work started to notice when I lost about 20 pounds. I'm down 31lbs as of Saturday and apparently nobody notices except for a few key people.

Interstingly, someone that I'm working with is doing a shake diet and she lost 15 pounds. I haven't noticed any change, but she is constantly telling people that she lost weight because she seeks attentiom and people always do the confused squint and then say "Yup I definitely see a difference."

Since I'm doing this for me I refuse to let that get me down. I see it and feel it and I refuse to explain JUDDD to people who aren't really that openminded.

I would say about 20 pounds and people started to notice. A few people started saying that when I had lost 50 pounds that I should stop! That was laughable since I was still significantly overweight for my height at that point. My mother said last night "Your not still losing are you? I really hope not." Now I haven't lost anything in a few months, but plan to lose another 8-10. I'll just lie and say I didn''t if people bug me.

I've lost around 27lbs (ignore today's knee & thigh blip) and nobody's noticed. Or, if they have, they've not commented (which, given their pass remark-able tendencies, as my mother would have phrased it, seems odd).

SS that doesn't even make sense???? How could people not notice how thin and trim you have gotten? I mean you weren't terribly over weight to start with but you have lost a lot! Some people are just afraid to say something, I think, when it comes to weight

My ex husband is the only ones that's commented about my weight, and he noticed at about 18-19 down. I'm down about 27lbs now and no one else has specifically said anything about me losing, but I have had people tell me I'm looking great. So I take that as a good sign! Lol

WTG Pami!

I think it was around 30 pounds for me too. But, it seemed to start when my old clothes were so baggy I had to buy some new clothes. I think it was more my new clothes that made them notice than the actual weight.

When I was around 100 pounds lost, everybody and their brother seemed to comment on my loss, with several telling me not to lose any more. I've lost another 27 pounds and nobody comments anymore. I'm fine with that. It got irritating when EVERYBODY was discussing my weight.

I absolutely agree! That doesn't make any sense. Sometimes the topic of weight is very similar to religion and politics. A little taboo and people don't want to step on any toes, but when you're putting on weight people love to bring that up and give tons of advice. Go figure!

yep, sometimes people are afraid they will offend you by saying something, too. In my case, those that have known me a long time have seen me yoyo up and down the same 60+# every few years and figure it'll change back soon enough! I did have folks notice at about the 30-35# mark, though. Few comment now.

Pami, congrats to you!!

It's nice to get that kind of feedback, so congratulations on that! I think it was around 30 or 40 pounds for me, but I was still wearing the same clothes at that point, so I think the loss was less noticeable than it could have been.

I do think some people are afraid to say anything, and others are kind of holding out on you, not wanting to give you the positive feedback (toxic types). It can be an awkward thing to bring up. I think a good rule of thumb is, for every one person who comments, a good 5 or 10 other people have noticed but not said anything!

SlowSure, I also can't believe no one has commented, unless you're hiding out in a muumuu or something!

No, I don't own a single muumuu or kaftan

To be more fair than I feel - the people who've known me since before the accident still see me as heavier than I used to be so maybe they genuinely don't notice? But, they weren't at all backwards at telling me that I'd gained a lot so, who knows.

Thinking about it a bit further - I do have the infamous wattle and it seems that my face and neck aren't showing the loss at all. Plus, I use walking poles to get about - I don't know if people see that, rather than me, if that makes any sense?

Anyway - agreed that it can be tricky to comment on someone's appearance and much will always depend on how well you know them.

I would say people started to really notice my weight loss around 15-20 lbs.
Congrats on your weight loss thus far!

I think something that helped me was that once my jeans got too big, it was
time to switch to shorts and capris. I have smaller jeans, but not one size
smaller. I think I'm about 5 pounds from fitting into the next smaller jeans
that I already have- not going to buy any to get me thru that next 5 lbs.
Anyway, I think going from jeans and sweats to shorts and capris produced
enough of a visual difference that people are perceiving something is different,
even if they aren't sure what it is.

I think Yennie posted that she could still fit in the same size that she wore when she was 30lbs heavier so she has troubled seeing the difference as she isn't wearing different clothes yet. However, when she posted some photographs (in her journal? - somewhere) it's very obvious that she's a different size.

People started noticing when I was down 35 pounds as well. I think some people tend to block our "fatness" so that they can view us favorably. I have a couple of friends who don't recognize the weight loss except for (your face looks gaunt) - one of them, and the other just says, "I only see you weighing about 150 pounds." (an ideal weight for my height and one that I have never ever weighed as an adult). GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR lol. It's a good thing that I am doing this for me!

I have been getting noticed since about 20 lbs lost, but that was a long time ago and I'm still at only 29 lbs down lol. I have a problem with thinking things are going to progress much quicker than they do...thought I'd be in a 14 by now, but I started out in a tight 18W and could probably have worn 20s comfortably, so I guess that was an unrealistic expectation. I do wear some Misses 16s now though and the 18Ws are way too big.

27 lbs is a lot SS, but you weren't very heavy to begin with, IMHO. Therefore, it might not be something people feel comfortable commenting on. You'd be surprised at the number of people who thought I had gotten ill and lost 30 lbs "by accident". I wish it had happened without all this effort!!!

Ha ha ha... I do the same thing. I always end up thinking "oh, at such-and-such a weight, I'll be a size *insert optimistic size here*" -- and it's hardly ever worked out that way. In fact, at my current weight, even going down one size is, like, a 25-lb loss. Seems like it takes forever, sometimes -- I just wanna GET THERE already!

Oh no!!! lol I don't think that was it -- I think people just get used to seeing us a certain way, and then any change is viewed as possibly negative. And they probably thought you were beautiful even at your highest weight, anyway!

A woman at work told me this week that she thought I was losing for health reasons. As in, I was told by a doctor to do it. I guess it seems pretty hard to imagine that someone would be so diligent to lose weight after so many years of seemingly not caring how overweight they were. I think I can understand that. I told her that although I was also losing weight for health reasons (of my own, not any doctor's recommendation), I was mainly doing it because I got sick of being fat.

By accident? Like you semi-Rip van Winkled it all away and were taken aback when you saw your reflection?

I'm broader in places than I'd anticipated. I still can't wear items of clothing that I could wear when I was 14lbs heavier (when I was gaining the weight). However, I don't necessarily need more weight loss, I could use some bodyfat loss and muscle/bone gain. Kaleo of the GoKaleo blog (sounds like I'm quoting a clan lineage) has some photographs of her body recomposition. There's a striking side by side panel photo of her when she weighs 160lbs but looks very different because of the muscle tone and body recomposition.

Pami, are you planning to wear something with the size label outside this week?

This is so very true!!! I really need to get back to a work out schedule. I looked way better last time at this weight.

Pami, yes, you could "accidentally" leave the tag outside. I used to hate it when I'd wear a top that had a collar that showed my size tag in the back (it would roll down or just somehow naturally hang that way). Someone should manufacture that for smaller sizes!

Deen!! Lovely to see you!!!!

Why thank you, ma'am. I am around still -- doing a round of hcg to give things a bit of a boost, but haven't lost my love of JUDDD -- can't wait to come back to it for maintenance!

Speaking of getting noticed, I went to see some friends I hadn't seen since last summer yesterday. They were stunned at my weight loss. I guess I don't feel very svelte at 180 lbs and 5'4 in. tall lol. My mother couldn't believe that was my weight, when I told her. I think I must look a lot slimmer at this weight than I did when I had gained to it.

I think the first person who said anything was a random woman at work (I only see her in passing) after I lost maybe 12-15 lbs. By 20 lbs my clothes were getting baggy so a friend of mine did comment on my jeans being looser. I'd rather not hear any comments about my weight but it's nice when your hard work is noticed as long as people don't get too nosey.

LOL I Like the idea of leaving the tag outside..."OOOPs, did I forget to take the tag of my XS yoga pants I just bought?? Silly me!".

LG, you're definitely being given good, objective feedback by friends, colleagues who identify you as 'the new lady' and gentlemen in parking lots.

I wonder if you developed some additional lean body mass while you were carrying more and you've retained an unusual amount of it during your losses which will only help you and give you a good, toned all-over figure, when you reach your target size.
