WOE: Moderate Carb JUDDD (Lost first 4 lbs on WW)
Start Date: 7/4/2012 -- 42 lbs lost total
49 Weeks on JUDDD -- Whoosh

This week I weighed in at 245 lbs for a loss of 2 lb this week, a total of 45 lbs lost, 38 of them on JUDDD.

Yay! This is the exciting new low I saw last week but did not claim. Now I hope it's here to stay. (Probably not, given how I bounce on JUDDD but when I see it on weigh in day, I claim it.)

Low Points

Big Appetite on Up Days. This week Mint posted a reminder from Dr. Johnson's book, including, "And if you're sticking to 20 percent of normal calorie intake on your down days, you'd have to eat a whoping 180 percent on your up days just to come out even. As a practical matter, this just doesn't happen, at least in the first three months or so." The focus of her thread was that the book said to eat whatever you want but not to overeat. But what I took from it was a reinforcement of my own experience, and that is that eventually, your appetite does come back, and it comes roaring back. I can eat more than 180% on my up days without batting an eyelash and that kind of angers me, but given Dr. Johnson's observations, maybe that doesn't make me freakish, but just is a reality I must guard against.

High Points

Quite Manageable Appetite on Down Days. As I did last week, I included another double down day to compensate for an over the top up day. Again, I warn that I do not recommend this for anyone else. This is just an experiment I'm doing with myself. It was not that difficult to do, honestly. I find that startling, but it is true.

Down Day Treats. I've found a calorie free soda that I enjoy. Ice Sparkling something or other. I like it enough that I would drink it on up days but I have been "saving" it for Down Days and it gives me something to look forward to.

Productivity and Simplicity. In a week like this one, where I have edits on a manuscript due and I'm up until the wee hours every night, I begin to appreciate, again, the immense productivity I enjoy on down days, and the simplicity of even my up days. How are up days simple? I do not have to rice cauliflower or make my own "bread" or even dirty a frying pan if I don't want to. I can order take-out from any restaurant I like. I can decide--at the last minute--to eat whatever I'm in the mood for that my budget will stand. And so I have hours and hours of my life back.

Great Bloodwork. Now, because in times of stress and overwork I do lean on unhealthy takeout, I wondered if I was not clogging up my arteries. So I had my cholesterol done last time I was at the doctors. The result? Nearly perfect! The only recommendation my doctor could make was to raise my "good cholesterol" if possible. So whatever damage I'm doing with the occasional Wendy's SON OF BACONATOR is obviously being undone with my down days!

Excellent report!!! I, too, saw that reminder from Dr. J's book and thought, hmmm 2700 calories is really not very much. Easy, easily managed by me!

I love the Ice drinks too!

Great to hear it's been a good week for you Steph. The whoosh is always welcome and DD productivity is awesome. I am still in awe of you for doing two DDs in a row. I've never attempted it, and while I'm sure I could to it easily physically, I'm not sure about mentally. It might send me over the edge. I'm so glad it works for you!

Great update to your weight loss journey! Congratulations on the loss!

PS I just tried two DD's in a row and I did manage ok but last night about 7:00pm I was starving so I had a dill pickle and a piece of turkey jerky and was okay. I normally have very low DD's so the first DD I had around 350 cals and yesterday on my second DD I had 120 cals.

If I'm not careful I'll drink the whole liter in one night and I am making a major effort to only drink diet soda 1x per week. I had to classify the Diet Polar Double Fudge in the same category as Skinny Cow frozen treats, which is "If you buy it be prepared to consume it way too fast- proceed with caution!"
Congrats on the new low!!!!!

Lovely week Steph!
Congratulations on your bloodwork.

I could easily consume 180% of my UD allowance = 2630 calories - especially if it involved nut chocolate, potato chips and some nice cheese!

Cool!

Also happy you found a calorie-free soda you like. I've decided Zevia Black Cherry is my favorite and I look forward to it. Find it at my ordinary grocery lately.

Simplicity - so true that being able to choose some kind of convenience is a relief. I am so busy and overwhelmed sometimes, and if I thought I had to spend a lot of time on meals every time it would become discouraging.

Very happy for you about cholesterol, and good job finding out. Right, it is surely the JUDDD that is doing that because SON OF BACONATOR doesn't really have that reputation.

I get it at my local Stop & Shop. It says "Since 1882" on the bottle. Polar has lots of yummy diet flavors. The grape is awesome and so is the raspberry lime. But like I said... it's so good it's kind of evil. Even though it's 0 calories I drink it like there is no tomorrow when I have it in the fridge.

I did and they all sound yummy!!! I'm afraid they aren't sold around here though. I've never seen them in the grocery stores, and we don't have stop and shops. Darn it!

Good job, Steph! I love reading your updates. You give a lot of insight as to what JUDDD is like over the long-haul.

I recently discovered Kevita Probiotic drinks at my grocery store. They make a nice Down Day drink, and range from 5-25 calories per serving. I find them a little pricey, so I only have one serving (1/2 bottle), but I do enjoy having a 'flavor' to break up the normal water routine. And they are slightly fizzy.

Leona, thanks for the news. Zevia (which I used to find only at the healthy grocery) is really going mainstream and is popping up at several competing groceries around here. But I didn't know until your post that it was at WMart - how convenient is that. As I shopped yesterday at Harris Teeter (upscale) , I got one of their artsy store coupons saying they are now "partnering" with Zevia to give discounts and here was $2.50 off on 2 six-packs, which I'd say would be about a 1/4 to 1/3-the-price discount off their store price.

Since I've discovered that what I really crave when having a burger, pizza, etc., is a drink with carbonation, not necessarily "sugar", it's been a revelation.
