Saturday I had coffee/HWC for breakfast and didn't have anything until "dinner" when I had 3 oz of cream cheese (which was yummy by the way! I've always loved it by the spoonful.) 400 calories of basically fat. Didn't weigh yesterday, but this morning, after a very nice UD, I was down another 2 pounds. So that's down 7 after 3 of these "fat fast" days, and maybe more because of the UD yesterday.
That's incredible! This is my second attempt at the HWC only DD, but now I'm wondering what else I can have and stay within my calories that is mostly fat.

Thanks Deedee!

I'm thinking bacon (70% fat), sour cream (86%), cheddar cheese (73%), peanut butter (72%), avocado (77%). And of course Dr. Atkins' tried and true pork rinds and macadamia nuts, which I think I burned myself out on forever back in my LC days!

In addition to LCG's suggestions, is this where the fat bombs play a much loved walk on part? (I've neither made nor sampled them.) Again, I've never made nor consumed it but it strikes me as feasible that you'd be able to make a small portion of eggnog with such high fat items.

Usual disclaimer that I've neither made nor eaten them but I think Rebecca Latham of

has a number of relatively high fat ingredient recipes and menus for her food diaries (from her The New Atkins and nutritional ketosis periods).

Great idea SS. I've never made or eaten them either, but that's a tempting suggestion. I used to make what I called "cheesecake" back in the day. I'd take a container of soft cream cheese and mix in sweetener and vanilla until it tasted like I wanted it to. Eaten by the spoonful, it tasted yummy and cheesecake-like. I may have to do that again - it's been years!

I've made some delicious fat bombs in the past! Usually with coconut butter. I am afraid I wouldn't be able to stop myself at a small enough portion though.

Well add me to the list.....coffee/hwc today! I am so not a coffee drinker, but I just happen to have a coffee maker that has been in the box since December. I have to figure out what I like, but seems to be going good so far. BTW...the coffee pot I have has a filter, but being the coffee dummy I am bought extra fine grind and it went right through the filter.......gross!! Second batch is waiting for me now, so hoping that I have corrected that

I will post my results tomorrow. Thank you for sharing LCG!!!

Well this isn't so bad at all......It is pretty decent and I can see myself doing this! Caffeine doesn't usually bother me, so we will see how going to sleep will be tonight.

Another question.....why doesn't coffee have any nutritional value on it....is it because it is just known to have nothing? I feel like I am asking a dumb question...LOL

I've plugged plain coffee into some online food diaries and gotten back anywhere from 2-4 calories a cup, so I think it has SOME, the same way tea does? But I believe anything under 5 calories a serving can be listed as 0 calories.

So here is my experience with the coffee/hwc...

I had a really good day yesterday and wasn't hungry at all! I did feel a little jittery, but I think that is because I am not a coffee drinker and my body was like what is this?

The results:
I am down 3 lbs and have crossed over into Onederland! I will definitely be doing this again tomorrow!

Nice! I have one more DD tomorrow before I head to the beach Friday so the plan is for HWC and coffee most of the day and then in the afternoon have an avocado. I had one of those yesterday for lunch, with eggs, and it kept me full for the rest of the day and through the night. I figure with just the avocado late enough I could skip the eggs.

We are going to the beach Friday too. I think the avocado will work great for you to get rid of that hungry feeling you had before.

Enjoy your trip and Happy Fathers Day!

I had to try coffee w/HWC yeseterday for my DD. I managed two cups with 150 calories of HWC. I wasn't hungry all day, but could not "stomach" anymore coffee for dinner so had 20 cal of cabbage, 45 calorie hot dog and 5 cal of mustard at 6 pm.

Today - down 2 1/2 pounds. What fun to see the scale dip like that! I think if I buy a flavored decaff coffee that tasted good I could do this again sometime!

Thank you for sharing this idea LCG and the idea of cream cheese, sweetener and vanilla tasting like cheesecake has me drooling!! Just know I will try that also!

That sounds like a delicious plan, and so satisfying. I love avocados.

You are welcome! I'm just so glad I stumbled across this, and that it is working for so many of us. And to think, I've been considering doing it for months and only just now tried it. I'll definitely keep it in my arsenal of "shakeup" plans.

I'll be doing Coffee/HWC all day and cream cheese for dinner today.

I make them (fat bombs) with juice from a lemon, and they are delicious! I use butter and cream cheese, splenda and lemon juice. I have made peanut butter ones as well, cocoa, and plain. All yummy!
Eggnog has a lot of sugar, unless you meant a sugar-free version...I don't think I've ever seen any, but probably could find it. Although where I live, you can only find eggnog around the Christmas holidays. Oops you meant *make* some eggnog yourself!

So are you drinking decaf for your night time coffee? I think if I had regular I would have 2 issues... insomnia and a need to wee wee all night. Do any of you think it's the diaretic effect of the coffee in addition to the lack of solid food that is playing a part or more the fat fast effect? Are you guys also consuming the same, more or less calories than you normally would on DD? I'm very intrigued...

I didn't have anything but water after lunch and wasn't hungry at all that night. I did consume less calories and I definitely think that might be part of it....sometimes on a dd I end up wanting to snack at night, so this fixed that for me. Not being a coffee drinker, I was not expecting to have to make SO many trips to the bathroom!! I think some how some way it is all working together. I haven't had a great ud today...in fact it might be close to an uuad so we will see what my numbers will be the next couple of days.

I am going to have to try this some time. Since most DDs, I only have coffee with a splash of sugar free creamer, I would be having a lot more calories if I tried this...but with the same amount of coffee. I almost ran to the store tonight to buy some HWC, but then I got cold & opted for my warm jammies. (and it's an UD, yet I'm still cold!)

ANYHOO, carry on HWC peeps! Go, go, go!

I've never seemed to have an adverse caffeine reaction regarding being able to sleep. I pretty much can sleep every night, no matter what. And I haven't been up in the night hardly at all. I did coffee/hwc for dinner a couple of DDs, but then switched to cream cheese or a protein dinner. I've been having 300 to 400ish calories on these fat fast days. My current calculated DD number is 387, and I started this coming off my several week maintenance break, so yes, less calories than before, but about the same as before the break.

I'm not sure about the diuretic effect. Maybe the first day. I've stayed pretty LC even on UDs through this, just because I felt like I wanted to and my body likes it. After that first day or so, I'd doubt it's been water, but the losses are slowing down too, so maybe so.

Trying this today! I ran out of HWC, so I mixed it with HNH. Hopefully will still work.

My experiment is a little different as I'm adding MCT oil to some drinks (not HWC) and I do this on both DD and UD.

Mine is neither a fat fast nor wholly liquid. I'm attempting migraine control by transitioning to a ketogenic flavour-WOE within a JUDDD framework. I'm currently moving towards 3 Tbsp MCT oil on a DD and maybe 4 on an UD, along with a reduced amount of protein and carbohydrate.

I'm adding the MCT to coffee (morning) and either chai (particularly with an emphasis on cardamom) or cocoa later in the day. I add some sunflower lecithin to emulsify the fat because I loathe the appearance and mouthfeel if it isn't emulsified.

Theoretically, I'm artificially extending the notional number of hours of my overnight fast by adding the oil to my morning coffee on DD because some people argue that fat doesn't trigger insulin release. (I've no idea what the truth of the matter is or if this varies from one person's physiology to another. I also tend not to eat anything else for breakfast during the week as I find that the coffee will easily carry me through to lunch.)

I need the extra leeway of maintenance DD calories to allow me to add the MCT oil because that plus the lecithin is approx 156kcals (for coffee/water chai; it's approx 260kcals for a large almond milk chai/cocoa). Currently DDs are 2x MCT-boosted drinks and a meal of shirataki noodles.

I'm not experiencing an unusual diuretic effect from this although what I'm doing is not entirely similar to others.

I've been looking through these recipes Atkins Friends Recipe Room - A bunch of Egg Nogs

I don't really understand the portion sizes so for all I know I may be recommending a DD snack of 2 thimbles of eggnog. (Recipe 3 looks relatively low cal for this.) Would an eggnog work well if it were extended with a little water/ice and glucomannan? (If no one can think why this would be A Bad Idea then I may try it for DH over the weekend.)

I'm going to try this again tomorrow. My first one was fine, but I haven't done another one.

I doubt it's a diuretic affect for me, I don't have much water weight right now - being only 1 lb from goal over the last week. I think, if I wake up a loss after my next day of coffee/hwc, it'll be due to the lack of solid food. I did a liquid diet in April and I lose really well when not eating solid food. There is definitely a cleansing aspect.

Carly, I can't drink coffee after about 2pm. I bought some caffeine free tea last night and I think I'll have a cup of tea with cream for dinner tomorrow. I like black tea with cream.

I had some coffee with HWC this morning with plans to have a protein shake this evening, but I may try this.

You are doing great! Today will be HWC DD for me.

The man at starbucks this morning looked at me funny when I asked for HWC.

I'm back on the HWC bandwagon for my DD's again! It really simplifies things and when I tried it helped with the water weight.

Did they actually have HWC? I've never been brave enough to ask, even when I was vlc, I'd just use half and half.
